Hopefully without giving too much away… 1. The donkeys represent the drip of pressure. A small thing by itself, but one of the many things that make the responsibility list long. 2. In each new scene, Luisa is always in protector mode. 3. The 2nd scene shows different things about Columbia- coffee, hot springs, mountains. 4. The ‘Titanic’ says Madrigal. 5. The falling dominoes are doors, with the first one being her’s. Also, she mentions a light wind as the tornado approaches. 6. As Mirabel first puts her glasses on in the cloud scene, when it shows her perspective the shot is out of focus. Also in the cloud scene, it’s difficult for Mirabel to hang on just riding the uni-donkey. 7. In the falling rock scene, Mirabel gets up as if to help Luisa but doesn’t know how. The attention to story detail is ridiculous.
Another note about the donkeys, they are pack animals that are often made to carry heavy loads by their owners; Luisa is treated like a pack animal always carrying the village's heavy loads.
when you see the movie, the context will be made clear. Essentially, Luisa is being forced into service. Not like she wouldn't help people anyway, but her individuality and personal needs are sacrificed for everyone else and she is cracking under that loss of self.
I like that the part with the house had the exact effect she wanted to have for Mirabel for you xD like a super serious part where you see her super vulnerable but she doesn't wanna burden mirabel so the tone changes to something light hearted and funny
This song also has a meaning with what is happening in song the older sibling doing everything they can to protect their younger sibling no matter what it does to them physically and mentally
I love that this song has 2 meanings to me. 1. Her singing about her actual strength and how she has to hold up the family 2. It could be used for mental health
This is a 100% mental health song. Just think on it. She feels that she is literally worthless if she doesn't carry everything. This is sad as fck. Heartbreaking actually.
The donkeys that are usually pack mules aren't carrying anything because Luisa's there, really hits differently. She has to carry the donkeys sometimes even when they already are carrying something else. Honestly, really deep.
Donkeys are known as beasts of burden. They're the ones that everyone loads things on to be carried. Remind you of anyone??? Sadly, Luisa is pretty much the donkey of her family. Strong, reliable, and at everyone's call for heavy lifting; so much so that *she's* the one carrying the donkeys. It seems like they're there to say "Luisa, take it from us, we think you're working too hard." (Oh, and of course to lighten the tone for the kiddies.)
I appreciate that you went back and just watch the whole video for the second time with additional commentary! There are always things you don't notice for the first time. (Especially in a song like this where they add so many details.)
I think the sing is so heavy that the donkeys are their to have so maniac escape from all the frustation and fear of Luisa that we can totally relate to. Greetings from Chile!
I saw another commenter say this in another video and it makes sense: Donkeys are referred to often as ‘beasts of burden’ and that is how Luisa is treated for the majority of the movie. She is associated with the Donkeys because she literally another beast of burden. They do the same type of imagery with Isabella, by associating her with flowers (beautiful, perfect) which is what she deals with in a regular basis
Best advice is Family Madrigal, since it gives a quick rundown of who everyone is, then if you're up for it We Don't Talk About Bruno and What Else Can I Do
omg no way! tysm for reacting to it! you probably didn’t notice my coment about it but that’s okay, anyways thank you again and i hope you have a good day/afternoon/night! ^^
At least do Family Madrigal or What Else Can I Do before watching the movie. Those also aren’t the spoiler heavy ones either. Family Madrigal is the first song and basically introduces characters
Even she is strong most of it from her gift not pure Human strength, she lose her power during the " Candle " snuff out ( note not yet watch the movie ) Also I'm going to feel bad the guy is going to marry her
Hopefully without giving too much away…

@@vkdragonfire2123 oh okie
I think the donkeys represent donkeys
@@vkdragonfire2123 And if you notice not even the donkeys ever carry anything because it's all put on Luisa's shoulders.
The funny thing about the donkeys is that like the family sees Luisa as…a beast of burden. A workhorse.
That is so heartbreaking

Yes, the donkeys represent what Luisa is to everyone, a beast of burden. Donkeys are supposed to help lighten our load but Luisa has to carry them.
She was losing her powers after this so she went through depression for a long time in this movie after this song

4:48 She was herding them because they escaped
If you’re doing one more from this movie, please do “Dos Oruguitas” as well. That song deserves an Oscar. Surface Pressure is my second favorite

I just realized that Luisa pulled a Titanic with the ship and the ice berg XD
The Family Madrigal would be a good one to watch, or What Else Can I Do

Donkeys are beasts of burden; a metaphor for how she feels.
