My grandfather's name was David Edwards Sr. They called him Captain Dave. He was in his 20s when he started to work at Rainbow Springs. He retired from Rainbow Springs. He often told his manager about his idea of an underwater boat. At first management did not consider it. Finally they decided to give it a try. The rest is history. The person that is speaking on this video is my great Uncle Manning Lockett. I'm am very proud to see this video on UA-cam.
Hi, Thanks for sharing some of your history info of the springs. Loved to hear about that knid of stories. My family first came to Dunnellon florida in 1972 and went to the park then. And we still live here today. I loved going on the boat rides all the time. One of the story's I tell is when the park had closed. We would take the boat up the head springs and swim around the glass bottom boats, when they where still there. I swam under the glass bottom boat and there was a big alligator looking at me. I took off and he took off.
I remember this all so well! I lived in ( behind actual public area) the attraction as my dad was employee there as reptile handler and boat captain. Thanks for the memories!
@@Themarni1 I have been in your parent's home. My dad was Dave Moyers. Director of food and merchandise. I bet I met you. You guys had an indigo snake in the house.
Yes we did! We often had reptiles or exotic animals roaming about. Lol. Daddy passed away in 2009. I still have so many wonderful memories of Rainbow Springs and Dunnellon.
Went on a field trip to rainbow springs 1976 ....they had a parrot and exotic bird area with the netting to keep them inside.also a alligator show....they would pulley a whole fryer chicken and it would go out over the pond area and the gator would jump out of the water and gulp it down.im 55 years old now.alot of people don't know this history.
My family first came to Florida in 1971 looking for property and we went to the Springs then. Rode the monorail through the exotic bird area. Went on the underwater boats got to see all the big bass in the springs back then. Been living here for years. Then they wanted a No wake on the river. Saying the have Manetee. So they got there wish. And no boats past a certian point up river. Back when you could take your boat up to the Head Springs.
