asmpoohbear Actually, the release is one-handed. It's the approach that's two-handed, the second hand acting as the thumb for more support and a better ability to stay behind and push through the ball.
Evan Rzeznik I know all that, I just say release as in the stance, approach and release as a whole. You're right though, the second hand serves the same purpose as the thumb, it's for support.
i struggle with keeping balance alot... I am using the ABSOLUT CURVE from hammer... layout is pin down... i`m constantly not low enough and when i release the ball i automatically stand back up which make me move to the right and then i use my arm and pull my arm to the left trying to correct... giving me more rev and aiming 10 boards left of my target... my target is board 15 and i start with my right foot on board 25 and when i release right and i stay at foul line and keep balance, my ball the rolls over 15 and then continues to board 10 and hooks...(roughly.. not entirely sure of what board my ball rolls over after it rolls over my target)
Belmonte is a class act. Heard nothing but good things about that guy and, as a no thumb bowler, he gives me confidence. Just wish I could roll like him lol
Let us not forget that Vin is an retired professional wrestler. It is doubtful that everything he said to Jason was to honestly insult him, as they were joking around the whole time. Vin was entertaining, which was his job for years wrestling. He knows how to get a rise out of people, which is what he is doing to everyone commenting on here saying he is mean or he's an idiot.
Vin is actually a half-decent bowler - he's played this game a lot, obviously. Nice balanced approach, very smooth delivery (mostly) and pretty accurate. He can play for our team any time!
A lot of my friends and people at my old high school know I'm a bowler and when they wanted to trash talk that's all I would hear was "I average a 300", and non-stop excuses, no one has yet to accept a challenge to bowl against me. Vin belittled a kid who's a part of the future of bowling, I want kids to know that no matter what other people say, love the sport.
People always tell me bowling isn't a sport. One day a kid told me his high score was 350. I laughed at him and challenged him. Nobody has ever said yes
Jason, Loved the game and I am happy you too got to play. Vin is a show man and I am sure he felt honored to play you. I would have great video and great banter.
Well, it shouldn't be popping off. If you are using finger tips for your middle and ring finger, you want to grip it there and not the thumb. Though there are people who still grip it, (Like Mika Koivuniemi I believe due to his loft.) you want to keep the ball silent off your hand.
I would love to bowl against Mr Belmonte. I'm on the high school bowling team for my school, and at one of our meets at home, I bowled a 181, 288, 258, bowled a 727 series, my highest and I'm a freshman on the varsity team, so some time it would be great to bowl against him!
+noah hayes maybe not if you're a PBA bowler. Of course 727 isn't an impressive score for professionals. I'm just saying that 727 is a pretty good score for someone his age, even on a house shot
I just started bowling in a league for the first time in my life, I'm 29 years old and had maybe bowled 10 times my entire life and I can say right now bowling is a very skilled game, like Bel said "Every lane is different, you have to to completely understand how to predict oil patterns and concentrate heavily on every shot, i started the bowling league 7 weeks ago and finally found consistency to my ball and have been bowling a steady 180 over the past 2 weeks since starting off at 120. It's tough bottom line.
if you complete a game with alternating strikes and spares like this: X/X/X/X/X/X You will obtain an even score of 200 and this is called a Dutch 200. At the very beginning of that game Jason is on his road to a Dutch 200 so Vin made a joke about him being Dutch and not Australian.
Belmonte is such a lad. Laid back and willing to take the stick as well as give it. Nice to see a pro able to have such a down to earth laugh with guys at the local alley.
"when you leave them as often as i do..." belmo doesnt leave 5-7s. this is probably the first time hes ever left it since he was 6 or 7 using a plastic ball
This was good stuff. "I usually get 6 strikes by the 3rd frame!" I know Belmo did this video about how Vin disrespected one of his students, but I think it was all part of the game. It looks like they are pretty good friends.lol
I never get tired of Vin's trash talk. He's so committed to it I think it's hilarious, especially since it mirrors what bowlers actually blame bad shots on.
Best experience bowling with belmo in Orange, one of the best experiences of my life and to bowl in a team with him against Diandra Asbaty was just the cherry on top :)
I love the way Jason bowls. I'm actually going to start practicing two hands in 2 days (Friday). What sucks most about me bowling is I'm not consistent with the way I bowl, whenever I head up to the approach I always end up changing my stance in one way or another. I always change the amount of steps I take as well. I mean, sometimes I'm actually not too bad since it's my first year bowling for real instead of as a birthday party. I've only gone for 5 days now, once every Saturday but bowling 105 as an average for never bowling often isn't too bad. Starting to bowl more often so hopefully I can get used to it. What's also weird is I use a lighter ball than I should. I'm supposedly able to handle a 13 pound ball with the right sized holes drilled into it, but I use a 10 pound ball that I find at the alley. I marked it so I know which one it is every time so no biggie. Hoping to get my own bowling ball within this month since we're searching for them online. 😁 At least I'm honest with how much I suck at bowling though and at least I'm starting to practice more often so I can get better. I don't even know how to rotate the ball correctly to make it curve because no matter what I do it doesn't want to turn. 😡 But yeah, practicing it in 2 days. Can't wait!
If y’all couldn’t tell, Vin has a sarcastic sense of humor and doesn’t mean a lot of what he’s saying. He knows he won’t beat Belmonte and he knows he’s not a pro. Although I don’t support him bashing on the kid, some of the stuff he said was actually pretty funny.
Notice how he couldn't man up and admit that Belmo is better... He would be so butthurt if Belmo bragged how he was better at wrestling and put it down completely.
Good too see all the people who want Jason to come down to "your house" and bowl on your house shot you have there. It's not hard to sustain a 200+ average on a house shot people. Glad to see your confidence is up though.
I dig this because my friends and I barely have fun bowling against each other...and we run pro shops...I very much enjoy watching people having fun on the lanes than being on the lanes myself
i totally enjoyed every bit of that. Realistic and funny. This stuff is exactly what goes through my head when i go out bowling. Love the sport. One day maybe ill get to beat Belmo in a game of bowling.
Sometimes it won't take long for the oil to break down on a lane. I bowled 12 games at a center last month and when I started, the oil was still fresh. About 9 games in, the lanes were fried on both sides, and I was the only one bowling on that pair. The pattern on the lanes was a 39' house shot and my average for the 12 games was around 146.
I’m a one handed no thumb bowler. Just started bowling a few months ago. Is the reason why people choose two handed no thumb bowling style over one handed because you can gain more control of the ball on the approach or it is to prolong the life of your throwing arm?
I enjoyed this. Vin's a better bowler than expected, and yea the house conditions made Jason look mortal. So when's the follow-up under fresh US Open oil conditions? :)

Jason makes the game look so good. Bowling should be more popular because of him.
I never knew about the two handed release until Belmo. If it weren't for him, my average wouldn't have boosted by like 80 pins.
asmpoohbear Actually, the release is one-handed. It's the approach that's two-handed, the second hand acting as the thumb for more support and a better ability to stay behind and push through the ball.
Evan Rzeznik

asmpoohbear ah, OK. Sorry for the misunderstanding
Evan Rzeznik
It's all right.
Those people down the lanes....I wonder if they had any clue who was bowling in the same alley as them.
I would've shit my pants if Jason was in the same bowling alley as me 💀
I know for real. I thought the same thing. Jason is on my top 3 list w/ Parker Bohn III and Norm Duke.
