  • After 187 peaceful civil rights protestors were arrested at the South Carolina State House in 1961, their case against the state reached the Supreme Court. In "Edwards v South Carolina", the Court held that South Carolina infringed on the petitioner's rights of free speech, free assembly and freedom to petition for a redress of grievances. These rights are guaranteed by the First Amendment and protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. Hear from one of the protestors that was arrested that day and the impact the case had on the civil rights movement.
