    Thanks for this Bryan!! I'm currently in the job search for an entry-level role and have Raleigh on my relocation list so this was super informative!

    Your style of talking is pretty good. You have great clarity and also you sound way way mature for your age. If you take youtube seriously, you can be famous like 'techlead'. Its a good skill and not everyone has it, so i hope you use it.

    I agree for younger people moving here ... Raleigh downtown has great scene going on. However I have lived here for 8 years and ..it would have been really nice to have beach ⛱ close by but we do have Lake Jordan on hwy 64 and its pretty good.. it has a small beach like location..for picnic and camping grounds and you can rent pontoons and chill.

    UPDATE: After living in Raleigh for 2+ years (and 6+ years in the Research Triangle Park), I moved last summer (though Raleigh will always have a special place in my heart). I made a video talking about why:

    Hi Bryan, loved the way you described it.. any area walkable from RTP where i can stay. Also what's the right channel to find any roommates or may be look for someone who is looking for a roommate in the existing apartment. Thanks!! I am planning to move to RTP in july

    Cameron village is nice. Downtown is nice too, but I'm not a fan of North Hills, you have to use a car for EVERYTHING up there

      you kind of have to use a car for raleigh on the whole, not just north hills. but the driving in north raleigh is legit insane. the cars are too big for the roads!

    The tax man is going to get you one way or another. If it's not through income taxes, it's through higher sales taxes or property taxes that will be passed onto you in the form of higher rent. There's no free lunch.

    • @greg-iw7mf
      @greg-iw7mf 2 роки тому

      You can control and shop for rents tho. If youre willing to have a roommate or rent a studio, it can be really cheap to like in Austin. It's expensive if you own or want to live in an apartment by yourself

    Thx for your videos man! I’m a mech eng getting ready to do omscs for career pivot. I live 2 hrs from Raleigh - do you know if remote / semi remote work is pretty common for the area?
    Also I’m not gonna get vaxed, do you think that boxes me out from most companies in the area?
    Thanks!!

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  2 роки тому

      I do think that semi/remote work will be more and more common, thanks to COVID. I know Red Hat has a lot of remote postings right now. However, I do think the general expectation is to eventually return to the office (with a little more flexibility for semi-remote work). I can't really speak for other companies, but I do think that for most tech companies, you can't return to the office without getting a covid vaccine. My company (IBM) has that policy, but everyone can still work remotely if they want to (which most of us do), so it isn't an issue at all for people that don't want to get vaxxed. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

    I am going to work at RTP next year. May I ask where do you find roommates to share an apartment? Thank you!

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately, I don't have much advice there. I went to college in the area and had plenty of friends/a network to find roommates already. I would probably recommend finding a facebook group, but can't speak from personal experience.

    Where would you recommend someone live if they are working in downtown Durham? I've never even visited haha but I'm planning on moving down for work in September.

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Cam! Living in Raleigh would be an option, but the 20 minute commute could get annoying, especially since traffic on I-40 could be an issue once again once the pandemic is over. I would probably recommend just living in downtown Durham as well! I only lived in an apartment in downtown Durham for a summer (at Bell West End) but had a decent experience!

    • @CamKnoppMusic
      @CamKnoppMusic 3 роки тому +1

      @@bryan_truong Thanks for the info! Just looked up that place and the rent is very reasonable for downtown. Is that apartment in a safe enough area where you can walk around at night without worrying you're gonna get jumped? Lol

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  3 роки тому +2

      @@CamKnoppMusic Yeah safety was never really a concern. It is on the very edge of downtown, though (hence the "West End" name), so it isn't in as ideal or as "hip" of a location as apartments closer to the Durham bulls park and the American Tobacco campus.

    • @QueenDiamondBee
      @QueenDiamondBee 3 роки тому

      You should stay in Durham. Morrisville/ Raleigh or briar creek/Raleigh if you don’t want to stay exactly in Durham. Those neighborhoods are just expensive though

    Awesome video man. How is the diversity in Raleigh? I graduated during the pandemic and felt your pain on the job market lol

    • @bryan_truong
      @bryan_truong  3 роки тому +2

      I don't know the exact numbers or anything, but I'd say it's decently diverse... Compared to Orlando (where I grew up), it does feels like the Asian population is a lot smaller, and it definitely feels like the hispanic community is a lot smaller. There are a lot of South Asians/Indians in the Raleigh suburbs closer to RTP. Overall, I think diversity here is decent, but not as diverse as other cities

      Not sure exactly what you have in mind/what you are looking for, but I do think it is a great option. The way of life is much slower here though (and cost of living is way cheaper) than new york

    • @artisticagi
      @artisticagi 2 роки тому +1

      @@bryan_truong thanks Bryan! I ended up visiting both and decided on RTP- it’s like many southern states that have cosmopolitan cities and more rural countrysides but it’s beautiful and way easier to transition to than New York.

    • @tan5taafl

      My boss at a tech company is a single black woman. Think the colleges, including several HBCUs, make the area rather diverse and cosmopolitan, even if it’s a more casual southern cosmopolitan vibe.

  • @UnsaltedCashew38

    How do you find the demographics / diversity? Online it seems like its 50/50 black and white with few minorities. Do you see asians and south asians in your daily life?

    • @tan5taafl
      @tan5taafl Місяць тому +1

      Diversity is relatively high for the South and more rural states. The three universities bring in a steady stream from Asia. Rather large increase from India over the last 10 years. Generally focused on tech jobs at places like Cisco.
