We went out yesterday to see if the Walker River through the canyon on 395 was slowing down yet. The water is still raging so not too many finds for us. Sure would like to gather some more treasures from the river bed. The snow is still melting causing the flow ❤ Can’t complain too much about that. I will have to follow your Quests and bask in the glow of your finds right now ❤

Very informative! I've long had a fascination with pet wood. I guess that you could call them "pet rocks", haha! That Quercus could possibly be an extinct variety of oak? A friend and I were rockhounding the Mojave north of Redrock Canyon where there is a known opal location, and my friend found a very cool little opalized berry. It was perfect and it was easy to see where the stem was once attached. Thanks for showcasing such beauty frozen in time!

They are all so beautiful. Would love to have those for my aquascaping. Lovely large pieces. Love the "details" in the grain and different species. 😊💕💗💖

    Species represented in your haul
I have some big pieces of petrified wood that I collected on a club hunt
    The consensus was possibly sequoia
Location is central BC in the Quesnelia complex
It looks a lot like the material that you found
Lightish beige very high detail in the wood grain
The log was encased in basalt and had fractured into sections
I don’t know the age of the event
Lots of leaf muck and other preserved forest debris in the area as well
    Anyhow
I sure enjoyed being included in you and your moms adventure
    Thankyou

Those are some beautiful pieces. As kids we used to find petrified wood in the creeks on a ranch on Sonoma Mountain.

Thank you for sharing your finds, up close and in greater detail. And the wonderful information about the types of wood and what happened to them, that made them such amazingly detailed pet wood fossils. They are really amazing too. They look as if they are fresh pieces of wood that were just recently felled trees. It's hard to believe they are rock now and not a wood. Your other finds were some spectacular Chery's, jaspers, jasp-agates, carnelians, etc. We're amazing. I think your weird find that you are thinking of as a crystal, looked to me more like a core of a thunderegg that has rolled off it's rhyolite shell and only the chalcedony center remains. That's purely my take on it's shape though. Lots of amazing finds. Thank you for the deep dive into your amazing finds. So wonderful Nate.

For sure, out here we still have the vegetation covering most of it, you got the opalized goodness also, when I looked it up they said there was no collecting imagine that's within the National Park and probably you another locals are more aware these locations where it's okay to go hope to get the funds someday to get back down there and explore more I lived in Tucson for a while about two decades ago

Thank you for sharing your fines in more detail. Just makes you wonder what else is there petrified...p.s started planting the corn already inside the greenhouse. I like to do three to four different batches a month apart so I'm harvesting fresh corn throughout the whole summer. It's springtime yay!!!🙏🏾

Mine is on the counter just out of shot in the video, soon! I face north so the sun is almost to the point where my littleledge gets some light hours, the canyon makes it a shorter window, but soon!

Correct me if I'm wrong but some of the petrified wood looks like petrified drift wood.
    I really don't know if that's even a thing.
Looks like it to me., IDK

Those 2 big ones that you call carnelians look similar to what I have been calling opalized wood or common opal from a location in Sonoma. I’m not 100% sure on the ID of my pieces so I’m definitely not trying to ID your stones. Just something to consider.

Did you say you did the whole creek? I might have some time to go rockhounding for the first time in months. I doubt I will have the time to get all the way to diamond flats but P wood might be close enough. Did you leave any parts of the creek unchecked?

I like them as is but the ends look good polished to reveal the grains.some pieces are more easily polished than others.

    • @QuestForDetails

unfortunately they are all pretty steep and rough, its not a well hounded spot. I just choose a pull out I haven't gone to yet that season and work my way down.
