I get it, I usually have an amazing garden and can most of it . we are also in a new place and where my garden spot is going my husband stacked the lumber for his barn. I really don't want to do a garden else where and then move it, so for the first time in forever, I didn't have a garden. Praying next year goes as planned.
Aww, sorry you missed a year of gardening. It was a tough year in many areas. Please share when you get your garden up and going. I have an idea of what I want garden wise but you know how it is. Only time will tell.
Great video, Elena! I will be joining the challenge off-line, but am excited to see what you all come up with! I am looking forward to using up pantry and freezer stock. I am blessed in that my daughter, who lives with me, works at an organic farm and brings home fresh produce once or twice a week. The only thing we would be going to the grocery store for is dairy. I am planning on participating for the month of January, and will reassess at that time. I am also using this month as a "no spend" month, and using the savings to pay off debt. Many blessings to you and your husband in 2024.
Great pantry! I turned my small bedroom into a pantry, too. Just a suggestion, I don't care for pork and beans either. But, I found that if I strain them (rinse if desired) add to my chili that we like it. Three bean chili or taco soup is easy and any beans you have can be used, except I don't like chick peas in either. Black beans, pinto, any type of kidney, ranch style beans, navy, or great northern do well. I use my pantry foods daily. I buy specials and preserve them. I only shop about once or less a month. I'm afraid the increased prices will continue so I'm not sure I can be true to no shopping for 2 months. I can eat from pantry for 2 months, but want to continue refilling it.
Times are changing and that makes it a challenge when it comes to food prices. You are right about food prices going up. I am happy you will still do the challenge. And thanks for the idea of using the pork n' beans in chili etc. Good idea!
I really like your pantry, lots of room, very well organized. I would love to have a space like that. By the way I have a way of making instant rice and quick beans just cook your rice as normal then dehydrate it and the same for dried beans. I pressure can dried beans also into chili beans, pork n beans, baked beans. Thought you might like to be able to do this and put them in your pantry for a lot cheaper cost too. Blessings to you
I enjoyed your video and tour of your pantry. I especially liked the canned cranberries, I too canned about 30 jars, for juice in the mornings. I thought maybe I was going crazy, but see that I am not the only one. 🤣😂 What kind of shelf liner is on the black metal shelves?
Hey Carrie. Glad you stopped in. Nope not crazy at all. Pure cranberry juice is expensive. Glad you got that many jars made!😮 Oh and the liner is just a heavy duty shelf liner from Walmart. It's pretty stiff and works great!
Just found you , I’m In the high desert of New Mexico as well. I’m doing the pantry challenge again this year. I’ve done it for the last three years. I am thinking about trying to film it but I’m not sure I can manage the editing. Editing is such a challenge for me. I’ll look forward to watching !
@@safeathomestead9217 I’m using my phone to film, I actually just filmed my first attempt at a real video today. It’s not great but I know there is a learning curve. I downloaded it to my Mac to edit using iMovie. I got what I felt was a decent draft but can’t seem to upload it to you tube. Sigh… I’m going to keep at it. I’m excited to meet a fellow UA-cam creator in my same niche in New Mexico. You are a lot further along than I am. I’m excited to sit down and binge watch your channel.
Oh it's only 2 months? That seems more doable then the 4 or 6 months I thought it was and was seeing in videos. Granted those people did have large storages and multiple freezers. Im just 1 person and it's been hard finding tips for single people doing this challenge.
Yep only two months. It's especially easy when you are one person. You should give it a try. And double the quantity for each meal you make you only have to cook every other day. 😉 So let us know if you think you'll do it.
I found that using regular rice and dehydrating food- takes a lot of water you may need to conserve in an emergency situation, so its best, like you do to have many ways of preparing food.
Just found your channel now. Nice pantry. Id like to take part in the challenges that are being done ona few channels. Iwont be able to not purchase food as i have health issues and need to consume a lot of fresh produce. I find myself a good deal having to make 2 separate meals. So id have to change the challeng to what can safely work for me. I will try it with just getting fresh produce, and milk for my guy. Ill try it 1 month and see how it goes.

Love the idea to scrounge first, getting rid of all the bits and pieces. Then move on to the rest. 😊
Right!?

I like your reverse method! I'm in for one month. I think hubby won't be as excited 😆
Yay! Glad you are in. Make him some yummy stuff in January. And then surprise him with how much you saved not grocery shopping.
