I just want to point out how awesome it is that I don’t have to introduce any of these characters, you all just know. Warms my heart.
The Glaucomflecken lore has grown too deep. That's like introducing Iron Man in the Avengers.
even before i knew them by going through some older videos, they still always worked as characters
Video bro!!
@@irfankhatri6637 How do you think Dr. G has time for UA-cam *and* his practice? His Johnathan is hard at work!
Speaking from a medical family's point of view.... it's all too easy to see who's who.
First emergency medicine knows how to speak Ortho, and now can speak Jonathan too. He's impressively multilingual
I expect that's a necessary skill when you need to negotiate them "throwing eyes over a patient in room 10" and providing medical advice and accepting all liability without actually going through a consult.
You have to know a little bit of everything on ER, and be able to know each department’s language to properly work up, stabilize, and transfer the patient.
Worked with ED docs for years. That's just kinda how they roll. I remember once marveling at how fluent this one white, very Jewish ED doc spoke Spanish. I asked him about it and he just answered, "oh I once lived in Cali" and just moved on about his day. ED docs are the Rosetta Stone of the medical world.
Billys and jonathans are few subjects in emergency medicine
My mom is an ED doc, and she knows how to say "does it hurt here, here, ..." and a few other important things in like 30 different languages
let’s admire how the ophthalmologist has a portrait of Jonathan on his bedside table
I bet it reminds him of his Loyal Scribe, Johnathan, and just sets the tone of his entire day when he wakes up
I didn't catch that!
Thats how Orthopedics view their Reps
Like the one he gave to Family Medicine for Christmas!
Wouldn't you? Every household needs a Jonathan
I was not aware Jonathan had a "Do not BS me" mode when told an absolute fib by the ER attending! Brilliant!
That face has me wheezing and I can't stop... I can't catch my breath, please page Pulmonology.
Why did my brain read absoute fib as A fib😂
Jonathan's outlasted 3 ER attendings. He knows.
Exactly!!😂
Jonathan is introvert's best job.
As a dermatology Jonathan I am intimately familiar with all of these facial expressions as I have made them myself several times.
ER Jonathan here. Samsies
😂
Inpatient Jonathan and yeah
Lol you guys are no Jonathan. You may think you are, but there can only be one! ! ! !
ED Jonathan here and can confirm these are legit
The trick is, you know the answer to your own questions... or you don't. That is why Johnathan is so great. He forces you to be a better you.
.... this is suprisingly wholesomely philosophical and dead-on!
Sounds about right
"I'M NOT WILLING TO TRY"
ED doc is so my spirit animal. No lies. Cut to the chase. Lol
See, I replace that line with "I don't want to run the risk of breaking your equipment." 😂
@@warriormaiden9829 the truly brilliant line
I busted out laughing on that one.
That's all ED, really. No BS, cut to the chase and will, _mostly_ as civilly as they can, tell you how it is
ED doc?
The ER doc's ability to correctly identify who to pass their patients off to with the least amount of effort is truly a superpower
You forget the part where the ER is so overwhelmed that calling in a specialist for one patient allows them to better treat three others. On top of that, many hospital systems require opthalmologist consult for ER eye issues for CYA purposes. If the on-call doesn't answer, literally the only thing you can do is wait for the next shift and hope that the next on-call answers. It really clogs up ERs when you can't move patients out bc you can't get the required consults
@@felicityggreene7831 My comment is a compliment not an insult implying they're shirking responsibility by being able to effectively get consults better than anyone.
@@JoeMagician Nice save! 😄
@@felicityggreene7831How to open up ER. Anyone here because of a cold, fever, or upset stomach time to leave and get this from CVS. Majority I see in ER are this and often half tend to be immigrants or conveniently don’t speak English. So now fancy monitors exist to handle it.
The accuracy of “set them up with an outpatient appointment” is absolutely amazing
Aka never to be seen again
sounds about right lol
Need to hurry to get an appointment before it gets better on its own.
Ah yes, the ancient art of speaking Jonathan, it involves hearing a yes and no on the phone
As a mother, you learn this skill.
As a histology Jonathan, I hope I can achieve this level of phone call efficiency one day.
Only elite-level HCPs can see all the additional comments (i.e. nods) in this feed from the elite-level Jonathans.
As a trucker yes that would be great.
Once you understand the specific dialect
Of a company. The job becomes easier. I
Worked for an umbrella group once.
I knew 18 different companies paper work logging systems and procedures. Routes etc. And was a trainer for about 1/2 of them as well.
Am I a Johnathan?
Ah then you are not yet a Jonathan. One day maybe you will get there. 😂
First thing they taught me when I was a resident was to speak and understand Jonathanian in order to solve visine emergencies.
Jonathan once nodded at a printer and it printed Walsh & Hoyt's Clinical Neuro-Ophalmology, with the important parts high-lighted...
Love this!!
Gold!
Jonathan lore is the best lore, but I'm just amazed that emergency can speak the forbidden language. He's so talented!
I don't think "regular Jonathan" is the forbidden language. The Jonathans communicated the resistance by just eye contact - i think that must the true forbidden language
My flatmate who was around when I watched this got very confused by how much I laughed and all I could say was "there are just too many layers to explain here but trust me it's perfect"
I remember when a new ED doc broke out the slit lamp machine thingy and used it, practically the entire ED staff surrounded and watched in awe
I may not be a Johnathan but I am a concierge so I get the "speaking with silence" technique. It is truly powerful and only the mighty and few who master it may take on the holy title of "Johnathan."
The part where Jonathan doesn’t believe ER used the instruments to check the patient because they were “broken”!!! My favorite!!
I work front desk for a private practice optometrist. I have to watch flow and coordinate the departments. The scribes are a blessing. 5 minutes between patients? Two calls done, sample order placed, all their letters faxed out, and a full day chart prepped.
Bless the scribes
At first I aspired to be quick like Jonathan, but now I just want to be easy going like Emergency bike bro
"Bike bro"! That was gold! 😂
The framed Jonathan photo on the nightstand 😂😂
Honestly, your videos have convinced me that all specialties need their own Jonathans. It just makes sense to have someone whose job is to help with all the tasks that can get overwhelming when dealing with everything else, like organizing and paperwork and stuff.
Family Medicine probably needs like three Jonathans though.
Or a Jonathan who has a Jonathan who has a Jonathan. 😀
@@Gwentheferret jonathons all the way down!
Family medicine can’t afford a Jonathan.
I did my first ED rotation last night and they had a Johnathan named John! He was just as efficient as a Johnathan. All I could think of was your videos. We appreciate you, Dr. G 👏
I wish that more Jonathan's existed! We really need someone like that! 😁
To go through the halls of medical schools and calm all the first years before exams 😎
Hi there!
@@melaninmonroe007 very true
I was a Jonathon for a spine surgeon. It didn't pay well and I had to move on, but the job was fun.
@@AndreaHernandez-zt6cx Thank You for your service. We need more Jonathan's in physical and mental health care.
loved that so much. us background support people feel so seen by your scribe awareness vids
True! Thank you for creating a Jonathan charcter, Dr G.!
See, that's a commitment to service there. You all need a Jonathan to keep things running. Things started breaking down when it stopped being respectable to work for a doctor instead of as a doctor. More respect for support staff!
As an ophthalmic retina scribe for 12 years, this makes me giggle!!!
I love your videos! I watch them with my team and my retina doc.
It’s so scary accurate! 🤣
Ah, we continue to see the evolution of Jonathan…the development of the “furrowed brow” shows extreme growth!
@scottbandy4070 Like our pets begin looking like their owners, Jonathan is mirroring his ophthalmologist.
0:13 the reflection of your hand holding the phone gets me smiling every time 😂❤️
I never noticed that!!
I CAN'T UNSEE IT NOW
Me too.
Love it😁 I was my doctor’s “scribe” or his “work wife” as his real wife called me. He had ADHD and dyslexia, so it was up to me to get orders in the chart and I even dictated his H&P and DC summaries. The POWER!!! Oh the power! …but the pay, sigh. Big office, itty bitty pay check.🤣
My doctor started out as a research chemist and he got his MD in order to make it easier to get grants for his research, then he fell in love with practicing medicine so became a full time emergency physician (rural) for many years at the small hospital at Yellowstone, then he worked for the state and had a nightmare, horror stories, they fired him, he sued them and after many years he won. Now he is a behavioral psychologist. He is the one who inspired me to go into medicine and I am blessed to have his guidance and support.
i was trying to find your videos but i couldn’t remember your name and so i searched “doctorglamonosn” and youtube was like “ohhh yeah we got you”
Close enough
The UA-cam Johnathan is very efficient
Ophthalmology could probably be the highest earning specialty if they didn’t take so many naps
These videos make me smile so big. Two days ago I got skull surgery and I was looking around at the folks in the OR and so many of your character tropes are so true except my anesthesiologist was wearing the cool guy ER sunglasses
I was an ER Jonathan for 3 years and I have to say I’ve never called ophthalmology but I have called vascular surgery and was screamed at for calling them at 4pm on a Wednesday.
I admire the way Jonathan has rapidly ascended to mythical and magical status.
Judging by the fact that you can feel his presence through the phone I'm thoroughly convinced that Jonathan speaks in Vibes.
Because they travel faster than sound.
ED really raised the bar - he really speaks and understands Jonathon AND is permitted to call him "Johnnie!"
"A wave of comfort wash over you, like everything's gonna be okay?"
I want a phone call with Jonathon 💜
Jonathan ....goals.....to learn to keep my mouth shut and to stay focused and always anticipating needs keen preparedness for any crisis regardless of lack of sleep money in wallet or gas in tank!
@Dr. Glaucomflecken, The best part is this is not the first time, Emergency has understood/spoken Jonathan... So great continuation/development of that storyline, Dr. G! Awesome!
My boss: "Do you want to work [a full moon weekend] in the ER?"
Me: *Jonathan's "I'm not going down there" face*
Full moons are hell! I'm a CNA. Weather conditions (think BAD weather) and a full moon together... Life gets interesting
I wish Jonathan could be at my urgent eye appt tomorrow. I’m so scared and his confident presence would be so comforting. ❤️
As a fellow ophthalmic Jonathan, I understood every head movement and facial expression
I love the different facial expressions from Jonathan, he can convey so much in each one. 😂
“how many eyes does the patient have?”
“two. i checked.”
😆😆😆😆
That's not a random question though.
And let me clarify that the "I checked" isn't random either.
I found the interaction pretty funny. Had this nursing student who was assigned a patient who had a procedure done on the right eye which was covered in a dressing. She was asked to do eye care on his left eye (silly me thought all nursing students obsessively checked charts) came out of his room very confused because "his other eye doesn't respond to light". Read the chart - L eye is artificial.
Johnathan is my favorite of all of your characters. He just knows exactly what to say.
As an emergency medicine Jonathan, i understood every word 🙏
Even that "reaaaallllyyy"
I just love jonathan so much. he's adorable. I'm so pleased to see a video about him :3
Our ophthalmologist asked me if we got our slit lamp from the garbage dump because it was the worst he’s ever used and refuses to come to the department. However now when I tell him I can’t see anything he has no retort. Checkmate.
Smart
This totally helps me understand my rheumatologist and her loyal scribe Mike. I always thought they was a little creepy before you helped give me a glimpse into their inner world, Dr. G.
I'm a home health aide with a CNA license. Speaking without speaking is big! We quickly learn this language of Johnathanese, for those clients who can't verbally communicate. It helps when it crosses over to patients/clients who can
I’m impressed with Emergency’s skills. Speaking Jonathan is golden. Any open sessions? I want to learn to up my game!
I want Jonathan to answer all my calls. And answer all my messages with a self explanatory selfie. ❤
It's fascinating to me that Bill could feel the comfort emanating from the phone when we wasn't even the one on the call.
I just want to thank the ophthalmologist and his Jonathan that came to my rescue after hours on a Friday when I got to the ER after having splashed .3% hydrogen peroxide in my eye (WHILE WEARING MY CONTACTS) because stupid college students looks us failed to dilute it properly while cleaning.
PS: I'm sorry to the housekeeper that had to clean up my throw up from the pain and triple vision
Corneal injuries are no joke, they hurt like heck. Hope you're feeling a bit better today.
@@leabugmp it's been years now. My eye has held as much as it's going to, tho it looks like my night vision will never fully recover and that bright light will always hurt. But they weren't sure I was going to keep vision in that eye ask I'll take it
@@komikbookgeek oh sorry I misread it as *this* Friday! I'm sorry you have lingering sight problems, no fun at all.
@@leabugmp its cool! And I'll take slight problems over blindness tbh
You should get a book published, "The subtle art of speaking Jonathan" 😄
This one might be my favorite yet. Absolutely love the facial expressions on Jonathan XD
Now you need to have an actual session on learning the one true language of the Jonathan. We MUST know the secret!
And spoil the magic? Never 😂
Being a person named Jonathan whose visited many an ophthalmologist because of some low vision issues really does make these videos an interesting watch.
Could you explain further? I'm just curious. No pressure
I want to see a hunger games version of all the speciality’s assistants. Jonathan vs all the others.
Nooooo don’t pit the scribes against each other. The world needs more scribes, they’re a scarce resource.
I love the Jonathan bedside photo, and....that *satin* pillow case! Lovely as always.
I'm super curious about Jonathan's backstory! 🤠 How did he become this non-verbal? What is his relationship with the ophthalmologist like? I'm quite interested in his life and I really liked this video a lot! 😃👍🏻
Keep up the great work, Mr. Eyedoctor! 😊💚
He has perfected the ancient scribing art of being seen but not heard
@@DGlaucomflecken Yes but how and why? ☺️😉 I'm quite interested in all.of the characters' backstories, this one in particular. 😀
The ER doc calling Jonathan Johnny is such good writing.
Absolutely love & adore Jonathan & if I can’t ascend to his level, hope to have one in my life!
This is how I'd like everyone to communicate with me from now on, thanks. They just know what I mean and I don't have to actually say anything
Omg he has awesome acting skills. All that Jonathan face expresión was incredible
I loved this so much!! Jonathan is my favorite. Thank u so much for him. ☺☺
Last Friday, I found out that my new pain doc has a Jonathan, well a Johanna. It was a privilege to see one in person, well through Zoom. 😋
emerge is such an amazing doctor, knowing how to talk to any professional is truly a great skill to have
Im getting every Jonathan video recommended to me and I love that he's just some sort of eldritch being that makes everything better.
You do the faces so well sometimes I forget they're all just you
"I just don't know how to use any of it, and I'm not willing to try"
This one definitely seems like it comes from first hand experience!
This was amazing. Honestly it ventures into physical comedy, I giggled and laughed through the whole thing, those expressions!!!
Jonathan's suspicious look 😁😁
I know all these expressions by heart... I'm pretty sure I use them on a regular basis. Jonathan is becoming my spirit animal.
„You‘ll get there“ - eventually. 😂 Those facial expressions! The emergency doc got it! 👍
Dr. Glaucomflecken NEVER fails to make me smile! Thank you, I needed this!
I love how I work in the local Parks service, am in school for Environmental Science, have no medical background, yet I am watching these with such dedication 😂
I know this situation! Idk how to describe it other than sensory and you go by gut feeling & instinct mixed with how much you know the person.
As an aspiring polyglot, I MUST learn Jonathan!!! 🤯🤯🤯
My, one would say Jonathan was almooost disappointed during the consult, what a great and comforting character development.
I realize our ER dept has Johnathans. As the doctors go to each patient. A person follows them around typing everything they say.
Jonathan is a fine example of actions speak louder than words.
OMG! Johnathan frowned, he showed disappointment. YES!! Emergency admitting he doesn't want to is hilarious.
Amazing work Doc, keep lighting our days up!
YAY JONATHAN!
I just worked on a physics lab report for uni today that I barely understand after a rough day at work and this cheered me up big time!
I am an ED doctor, the amount of times I've been told by Ophthalmology to send 'query retinal detachment' to the outpatient department the next day is countless.
Perfect ER doc portrayal! I love his character
This is perfect. I’ve been the guy who didn’t want to try to use the slit lamp either! You really manage to tell it the way it is.
"You just gotta learn to speak Jonathan! You'll get there..." That's for all those yet to subscribe...All 584K subscribers are already fluent in Jonathan!
Love Jonathan!! Thanks doc, you make me smile. 👏👏👏❤️❤️🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Aguante Jonathan 🙌🏽!
Jonathan no longer speaks??? What happened!! Was the last time he spoke the one and only time??? Has he had an MRI? CT scan? Full blood works?? What happened to his voice! Opthalmology I need answers! - love your friendly haematologist
Jonathon doesn’t speak. Through his evolutionary process from human to Jonathon he lost his ability to speak but can communicate telepathically.
Jonathan is a scribe. He doesn't need to speak. He is just Jonathan.
Ok you got me, I don't know how to use it and I'm not willing to try - brilliant! Simply brilliant. My only criticism is why did it take you this long to come up with this one? This has to be your #1 call from the ED every time that pager goes off!! 🤣🤣
I love the ER doc. Him and Neuro are my fav
Jonathan's hyperintense death stare has mellowed somewhat
Only because the ophthalmologist was sleeping and Jonathan didn’t want to wake him
Best one yet!! Jonathan is the awesome.
“Ah we couldn’t get a good eye exam all our equipment is broken” *stares through him like a glass window* 🤣😂 had me laughing in my airplane seat.
Ortho Jonathan of 5 years. If I had a dollar for every time a pt said “wow, you’re really talkative!” To which my provider would retort “she’s not allowed to talk”, I’d be a millionaire
Just love ur work sir ......ur short videos give tonnns of refreshment......
Love this!! Jonathan appreciation. I want to learn how to speak Jonathan too.
