Why should opposition wards be deprived from upgrading? This shows the double standards of our government. After all, opposition wards also pay the same income tax and also do the same national service.

I feel the same way as you, I live in Potong Pasir for 23 years and back when PP is under Mr Chiam See Tong, there wasn't much upgrading going on, street lights and hdb lights were dim and yellowish in color, no sheltered linkways from my hdb to mrt, i'm sure Mr Chiam wants the best for the residents in PP but just didn't have the budget for it. It wasn't until PAP won the PP SMC in the 2011 GE by only a mere 0.4%(PAP 7992 votes vs SPP 7878 a difference of only 114 votes), since then PP has seen drastic changes, sheltered linkways are all over the estate, lift upgrading, home improvements and many other amenities were built.
Don't get me wrong, PAP is a doing a good job and there are many things I agree with PAP and of course there will be some that i don't agree with. I just hope that there will be more voices in parliament and like Jamus said we aren't denying PAP the mandate but rather we're denying PAP a blank cheque. GE2020 is over but I'm happy to see the opposition making great progress, winning the SK GRC is a wake up call for PAP. I hope people can vote wisely in the next GE

I think citizens need to understand how the system works. Govt grants are actually disbursed to the PA which operates through PAP grassroots advisors, even in opposition wards. The PAP grassroots advisors are the one who green lights the disbursement of the funds. So if the projects are "blocked", go after the PAP, not your opposition MP. After all they did said they want to serve the people.
It's an insane and clearly corrupt system that is politically biased - if you don't support their party, you don't get upgraded. How do we keep tolerating this?

Response seems to say they have linked ways, bus stops.. so ,"no difference", done even seek help from "cc" and help rendered. No one talks about who helped them.

I lived with my parents at BLK 151 Bedok Reservoir for 5 years before moving out two years ago to Tampines. We voted for opposition WP, I always see Pritam Singh and his team doing round about even before elections. So they actually listened to our problems and solved it well. The response from them was fast & genuinely they do care about the residents.. It's true in bedok Reservoir everything is convenient, place is clean and definitely a great place to stay. So this year hopefully Aljunied GRC still goes to them as I can't vote for them in Tampines, wish them well and hope they get enough seats in parliament to continue their fight for the ppl.

I stayed here for almost 40 years. Things are fine. Aljunied GRC is as decent, if not better than any lightning ward. Still can't forget the way WP lost Enous GRC in 1988... And as everyone can guess, Enous GRC never existed again....
I lived in a PAP GRC for 5yrs .
Every time I write to the town council about the cleanliness ..
The standard answer will be ,
" Oh !! This is the NEA problem please contact them directly "
When contact NEA, NEA will say this is town council job

Use the one service app, which allows u to highlight issues with the estate, and someone will come fix the problem eg cleanliness
I’ve lived in Aljunied GRC for 18 years. TBH, as compared to PAP, WP had done significantly much more. They constructed lifts to connect the floors (it used to be floor 1>5>9>12) but now it’s much more convenient. They also upgraded every single unit’s toilet and repainted buildings. They also redid the carpark and repainted the floors(idk what’s the term called) in just two terms!!! They often host meet the session by having a cup of coffee to understand better with the residents. And that’s some real effort right there. I dont see PAP on the ground like WP.

Vote fearlessly this Friday. When I went to Aljunied I realised it was better maintained than my PAP-held ward! Not true that only PAP knows how to run TCs!

Give a contractor or developer the same amount of money,they definitely will be able to develop the town or estate on par with that done by the PAP run TC's...
The people we elect as MPs are supposed to scrutinise government's policies and bills,to speak up for us,for our interests to be addressed in Parliament...to question ministers and seek answers and clarifications...
But the PAP has twisted the responsibilities of elected Mp's to that of mere estate managers...just to keep them busy running their estates and to have less time,interests and concerns for serious matter that has got to be discussed in Parliament...
Two lifts also no use if keep on breaking down. One good quality lift is enough!

Aljunied is definitely cleaner and I see lots of upgrading and shelter walkways.

I grew up in Aljunied GRC and today voting for Aljunied GRC for the first time :)
1:09 Bro last time your column has two lifts because the other columns did not have a lift. The fact your column got blocked out one lift is because of the new lift/lifts at the OTHER COLUMNS. It is CONSISTENT for all the blocks in Singapore to put only ONE LIFT PER COLUMN. ADUI.
I don't stay in WP's ward. But I believes if I am to stay in an Opposition ward, I (wish) can have both, a good team that are willing to serves (like WP) and a team that give more to (lure) me (I'm greedy, I guess). Why not? I'm voting to have more…(typical Kiasu).

Now Sengkang has won their Independence. Their Local Government is WP and their Governor is JAMUS Lim. Autonomous Sengkang? If PAP gives its Support, it will be digging its Own Grave. What Sort of Political System is this in a Tiny but very crowded Singapore of about 6m people.

Our place at Bishan, u get bird droppings on Yr car, dog poo at our void deck regularly , complain to our town council, still no improvement over the last 2 yrs.. Really upset, so it does not mean that PAP area is definitely well taken care of..

Some folks should know the Serangoon Gardens estate is also under W.P Aljunied GRC, lovely place to hang out. Good to know which estate area Aljunied GRC cover fully.

Sadly it was built that way since 70s or 80s.. I was visiting S. Gardens in mid 80s till now.. the Pap didn't expand the roads there though they added more Sbs buses into that area. 317 is the only loop service into the estate due to low ridership .
I believe LTA couldn't expand the roads leading into S. Gardens. Sadly. It is still a lovely estate, much better than Holland village.

I actually see them more as they will organise day trips to Malaysia and they actually went to the trip with us as well! Feels very homey!

Each community has its own set of issues and needs require elected MP assistance, no doubt an opposition party representative will have to work doubling hard to get more funding from government 4 his/her constituents. It's a norm for most democratic country with different degree of deviation. Nothing unusual at all!
Should go Hougang.. Aljunied was taken over after things were upgraded.
The nos. of lifts proposed in HIP depend on the nos. of units X expected nos. of occupants per units in the block. It's not because the opposition has less money.
You know which ward look like slumps. Jalan Besar GRC..I do food delivery in that area for 2 years. And I am living in Sembawang GRC. That area is so filthy!!! But you know why they always win.. because boomers. Give money happy already, but they really don't understand matters beyond that

You want to see mass upgrading, you look at Yishun. Over the years of staying there, it has always been changing and increased in numbers of HDB and other facilities. Yishun maybe an old town but it has never stopped changing. Yeah, it may be run by PAP, but so long as they do their job of maintaining the constituency I am fine with them. But damn sad for Hypebeast Dr Tan for not getting in West Coast.

@@yeotao fair point, maybe not all blocks , umm UA-cam doesn't allow me to post pictures here as a reply. Walk to BLK 714,715, 713, Esp 714, walls are marked and dirty , lift panel overhead have oil spill not cleaned for months, one wall at the common corridor has the concrete stripped and exposed and you can see the rebar inside. Ask the residents how often the lifts break down. it's close to 1x per month.
I stay near and I am honest, this place needs a paint job, more repairs. Shabby looking sometimes. Is it old estates don't get painted?
So...everything they say they are thankful for is provided by the government.
And the only thing provided by their MP is the cleanliness. But what the heck lets vote for them. lol

When you say such things like: "the ruling party can still rule but...." is a hipocrisy. Because actually you know you don't really trust oppy party ability to rule and they perhaps don't want the work too and risk people scolds on their work. They only want to boss around and criticize their "worker" and if possible the "worker" should get average admin person salary. That is the oppy mentality.

WP paid millions to their supporter for cleaning and maintenance. That is croynism. Plus that fellow never hired more citizens or paid citizens more. WP MPs earned 15k per month MP allowance since 2011 but never delivered any sustainable policies. Their manifesto has been repeated since 2015. Nothing delivered for 5 years already. Waiting for what. Meanwhile quietly take the 15k MP allowance every month. Bunch of hypocrites.
