This Is The Kit - Scabby Head and Legs (Live @ VRT Radio 1 Wonderland)

De Britse Kate Stables is een poëet in hart en nieren. Al sinds 2006 maakt ze indiefolkmuziek onder het alias This is The Kit en dat doet ze meer dan goed. Ze ging al meermaals op wereldtournee, speelde een Tiny Desk Concert voor NPR Music en verzorgde in 2018 het voorprogramma van The National.
Centraal in haar muziek staan woordspelingen en dat is in haar nieuwe album Careful of Your Keepers niet anders. Met haar zevende album weet de Britse ons weer een stukje van haar eigen intieme leefwereld te geven. Alvorens Kate start aan haar tour, krijgen wij al even een primeur. Voor haar sessie in ‘Wonderland’ brengt ze solo vier nummers van Careful of Your Keepers die ons van onze sokken blazen, letterlijk.

I saw This is the Kit live at Folk by the Oak this year (2023) and it was such a lovely experience, not just because TITK is already my favourite musical group. But the joy that Kate brings when performing her songs, with her lovely character that just seems so genuine is such a treat. You can tell she has such a passion for the gorgeous and unique music that she produces, adding to the already amazing sounds of the music she makes in the first place.
I also had the pleasure of meeting her after the performance, getting a t-shirt, some photos and a signed CD of Careful of your Keepers, and you can tell just talking to her in person that the on-stage personality that she carries is actually her personality, not some fake persona made to entice newcomers to her sound.
