Watching the once crumbling parts of the forward section being painted is SO SATISFYING. I imagine for the ship it feels like a high-quality (and permanent) skin lotion/sunscreen combination. And the International Blue. Ummm...Love Boat, anyone?
Every one of us love what we do and yes it’s very satisfying to see all of the hard work pay off. It helps us to get comments like yours. Thanks for watching….
I keep saying Wow! a lot, so you must be making amazing progress. The foredeck and that Windlass looks amazing. That waste plate from your plazma cutting would make great art!
You obviously have negative comments. Do NOT worry about them! Those of us who have had “ projects” know what it takes to be successful! Thx for the nice words from various members of the “crew” as they work in various projects. Good Luck we are happy to see your success. 😊😊😊
Actually we don’t have that many negative comments. Every now and again we get someone who for no apparent reason doesn’t like what we’re doing but not that often. More positive and supportive comments really.
I seem to like that color more and more as things move forward. Could be because we have a bunch of it and don’t have to buy any or it could be that it just looks better and shinier. Thanks for watching.
I am so excited about this sweet little jewel you bought! I can't wait to see her all fancied up and modernized and pretty. I admit I'm more interested in the decorating end of the project, but all of this metal work, deck work etc. is interesting and it's fun to see the progress. I wonder how long this whole project will take? I'm guessing 7-8 years?? I also can't wait to see the pool and pool deck once it's all done.
Thanks, I hope we can keep you excited about this project. We have a lot of projects that will include decorating. These are coming up in the near future. Thanks for watching..
I know nothing about ships but I am finding the restoration of your ship so interesting, I look forward to watching new episoded as they are released. The team you have working on the ship are fantastic and such great characters, its so nice to watch them all take ownership of thier individual projects and have pride in what they are acheiving.
That darker blue is a much more stately color than the sky blue that was used previously. That against the white should be quite elegant. Hoping to see your next video update soon. I'm quite looking forward to seeing the work on the hold.
That makes two of us. It’s been HOT here for the last few weeks and it looks like we’re gonna get some nice weather now and the hold or Pool is certainly on the list. PS. I am a big fan of the darker blue myself. Thanks for watching.
What a tremendous amount of work! Will be great when that day comes and you are finished (well no ship is ever finished I guess!). I do have to say, that seeing your videos I am even more impressed that in WWII they could build a 440 foot Liberty ship in 40 days.
The Liberty ships are pretty awesome and it just so happens I volunteer aboard the Jeremiah O’Brien from time to time and some of their crew help out here often. But will say that a Liberty ship is a far different animal with a much lower build quality. They were meant to last a very short time. But yes it’s impressive how they dialed in the process to days not years.
what is the story with the coast gaurd ship anchored with Aurora? Also there seems to be a half sunk military ship of some kind also docked up against Aurora. What's happening with the two ships?
The other ships are nothing to do with the Aurora. however the Coast Guard ship is pretty nice inside and out. The half sunk ship has a very long story that I may or may not tell one day.
What a great endeavor , working with a dedicated crew of course being a painter at heart Zeena's my favorite always positive and knows how to do it right . Also a great soundtrack the cats on fire . cheers
Thanks for the kind words. The most difficult part of making these videos is what music to use. Zenna certainly has focus and gets the jobs done. She’s awesome..
Thanks Edward, The better I get at video editing and telling this story the more interesting this channel will get. Stick around I’m gonna try to put out at least a video each week. Thanks for watching..
It is coming along great, well done to the whole team involved in this amazing restoration. I love watching your videos and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
@@AuroraRestorationProject thanks another thing I'm curious about is when Aurora is restored will she go back into passenger service or would she become a museum
Guys you are doing such a great jog with the ship, and the videos are getting better. I have a question, on the part that you tool of the motor where were all the rust, did you install another steel panel on the floor?
Thanks for the kind words, Actually the steel where the vent fan came off was pretty thick. We have to go back over and fabricate an adapter for the new fans that will be going on soon. Seems the rust just burrows holes in isolated places and that makes them easy to patch.
Have you guys done any digging into the condition of the hull? Especially under the waterline? I understand trying to seal it up to stop the elements getting in from the top, but I'm curious how the hull is doing, especially seeing this kind of corrosion topside
We have spent a lot of time inspecting and dealing with the hull. She hasn’t taken on any water under my watch and we have her in fresh and shallow water. Best place she can be until we’re able to get her into dry dock one day.
After knowing some of your challenges in the past, have you thought about setting yourself up as a Non-Profit. That way you could possibly have people doing LIMITED volunteer work. They have a place for doing a Community Service, and you get workers
Interesting idea. We have no lack of people willing to volunteer and help but as we have learned in the past. Once we get too many volunteers aboard then we see very little progress. Best to take on a few new volunteers here and make them comfortable with what’s expected of them and later they can be turned loose on individual projects.
I enjoy the videos but one thing keeps running through my head and I can't stop thinking about it. Can you briefly explain how you are able to afford such a massive undertaking?
We will work on it. Editing videos is fairly new territory for me and the more comfortable I get the longer the videos will be. Im focusing on quality and a good length with interesting content.
You never did answer the question what is your intended use of the vessel is it meant to be like a museum is it meant to be an actual operation or is it meant to be more like a privately owned pleasure craft because if you plan to carry fair paying passengers or to use it as a pleasure craft you going to have to put a sprinkler system in it cuz you have so much wood inside the ship solace an ABS basically does not allow as much wood as you put in the interior most modern ships are aluminum panels with wood veneers over them to make them look like Rich Wood and that's a good way to go light fire resistant in a bit more dent resistant then drywall
It really depends on the funding we are able to secure in the next little while. She could be a shoreside attraction or possibly a coastal cruiser. I’m very well versed in modern requirements and whatever we need to do to make even the most basic of goals possible is exactly what we will do. Just glad to know this fine ship has a shot at a future when most all other classic liners have been dismantled.
Fantastic restoration ! A real inspiration and labor of love! I want to see you succeed ! What will become of Her once the insurance company znd USCG pronounce Her SEAWORTHY ? Return as a Cruise Ship ? Filming platform for making movies ? Maybe become a school to train new professional Sailors, and Officers ? Since THE CALYPSO of Jacques Costeau will be returning to sea as an Oceanographic Research Vessel, maybe AURORA could affiliate and work with the CALYPSO TEAM. Gherd is THS NASA SPACE CAMP FOR KIDS, maybe AURORA could do something similar; call it SEA CAMP FOR KIDS. Nine-month floating classroom equivalent to a comprehensive high school "year" ? How about associating with a world tour group loke EF TOURS or GO AHEAD TOURS to offer shorter ( ~2 month ) tours to countries boardering the major oceans of the World !

Start a UA-cam channel and it will put your on a journey to discover what gets the most exposure and views. We’ve spent time studying what needs to go into a thumbnail along with title phrases, keywords, hashtags etc. a few months ago I knew zero. We’re still learning and getting better. Hopefully we learn that goofy faces are not required to attract people but so far that’s what I’m seeing :(
Havent seen many comments regarding the front deck, but man that looks awesome in the new paint!

little by little bit by bit, nice progress.

Did Rust converter go under those patches?
No, We we’re able to remove all the rust under the patches and seal them from the other side. Actually worked out pretty well.
❤
Thanks.
She shall be beautiful again someday. Getting there every day.
The forward deck will look great pretty soon and give the ship a nice little pool to enjoy during the hot summers :)
Whats the Coast Guard cutter doing there?
The FIR 212 is likely to be sold to a museum.
Love watching this resto. Will you be putting wood down on the decks again or leaving them painted?
I always see in the outside shots a coast guard cutter and I'm curious as to what ship it is?
That’s the FIR 212 Lighthouse Tender.

The Galvanic action of the metal of the fan housing rusted out the deck beneath it along with the fan housing itself
I think you are correct. Those vent fans were horrible even if they worked. We have much better ones going in the place of these monster old ones.
After knowing some of your challenges in the past, have you thought about setting yourself up as a Non-Profit. That way you could possibly have people doing LIMITED volunteer work. They have a place for doing a Community Service, and you get workers

Thanks for the kind words. Interesting you mention how do I afford this process. I think this needs to come up in a video soon.
Awesome work as always but, can you make it a little bit longer than 15 minutes
We will work on it. Editing videos is fairly new territory for me and the more comfortable I get the longer the videos will be. Im focusing on quality and a good length with interesting content.
I would leave all the as built original items
you need laser rust cleaner... expensive but best and fastest I ever see
Thinking that the $20k investment in a laser would tackle the surface prep and stripping that is very badly needed. Instant results, no mess.
💪💪💪💪
