It’s funny cause I just got done manipulating a Titanic csv file … for a machine learning course … I guess will soon be using linear regression to predict a target
This is a brilliant book.. just finished reading it. There are a few brilliant courses on coursera too, the one by Imperial college was just right for me. Thanks again for all the information and your brilliant channel!
@@granand There is an option to audit courses where you get access to videos and ungraded assignments. You need to pay only if you want to attempt the graded assignments to get a certificate.
@@pyr5881 So we need to read hard books to justify that it is suitable for ML? LOL. Data Scientist and Mathematicians have always recommended that book
@@johnwig285 Most people called themselves data scientists are actually doing data analyst things. So they do not need to read hard books or research papers. For introduction to statistical learning, the content can be taught in one semester course. I don't think it can make a person to a data scientist.
I'm taking your Python course on Udemy, and do not wish to sound like a boot-licker here. But, I do really appreciate you pointing to so many free resources to learn these skills including another recent video you did, where you pointed to a free way to learn. I think that shows great integrity and I greatly appreciate it.
I took a look at the book and decided to buy. Now I am half ways through - here my five pence (so far): I liked that you get a collation of all (or at least most) of the relevant topics: linear algebra, calculus, some tensor stuff, probability, optimization theory etc. That's nice, because you have a point to start with. I like, that they give some worked out examples and tell about how the things they explain will relate to Machine Learning - thus helping to avoid getting lost in the sheer amount of topics to be mastered. In the text and especially at the end of the chapters there are hints about literature: what to read to get a deeper insight and other sources for self-study. I like that, too - and without trying to make the book less than it is, I might say, that this hints to other sources might be the most valuable part of the book: at least I myself often need more than one explanation for the same thing, when studying by myself. Sometimes I can only understand something, if I know "the whole truth", i.e. if I dig down to the bottom. In how far this book with about 350 pages is enough mathematics for ML, I can't say: I'm trying to learn ML myself and have not managed to get a job in the field yet, so I have no experience to give an estimate. But what I can say is, that it seems to me, a very good point to start from.
@Winston Mcgee how can you be so sure that job doesn't exist? I've heard some way wackier job titles and they do exist. Surgical Robotics Engineer title sounds absolutely plausible to me
Thank you for providing us insights. What 3D softwares do you use for modelling parts of robots? I am a Blender user. Also what softwares do you use for electronics, stuff for PCB designs or circuit simulations?
@Winston Mcgee : Surgical Robotics is one of the hottest areas in Robotics. It does exist and it's real. just look it up if you do not believe me. Check out Da Vinci Robot by Intuitive surgical, or Monarch Surgical Robot by Auris Health, or Mako Robot by Stryker, or Mazor X robot by Medtronic. the list goes on and on
Earlier yestermorning, I received my copy of the Hands on Machine Learning text by Aurelien Geron, and as I skimmed through the second chapter on the end-to-end project, I felt a need for an in-depth text for Mathematics. I am, or atleast I'd like to believe, well-versed with the basics of the maths involved, and just as I was going through your channel for a playlist of books for maths, this popped up in my notifs. Thank you so much Giles! PS - HOML is honestly so good. I am only 2 chapters in, but I'm loving it.
I just wanted to say this is a brilliant channel. Almost always no matter what the video is, I always click and watch it and it's because of your style of basically talking, explaining, sharing your opinion and i love your walks outside! it's amazing. You and your work are very much appreciated, man. Please keep it up :)
hi i have been watching your videos for around 2-3 months and you have literally saved me do many months of time banging my head on the wall and i just want to say this THANK YOU SO MUCH PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU NEVER STOP MAKING VIDEOS
This book is for a beginner in math, but if you have some fundamentals like in part 1 of this book, I prefer you learn An Introduction of statistical learning with Application in R book.
I am so glad you showed the Turkeys. I was listening intently to you but did get a bit distracted with what looked like emu's walking in the distance and just as my curiosity bubble was getting rather large you stopped to show what it was, Genius.
Loved your video...turkeys too. UA-cam Algorithm brought me here, and I'm fully thankful for a new book to read and for discovering your channel. Regards from Bogotá.
Buying books on Amazon to learn math (unless they're workbooks) is a cop-out in my hot take opinion. There are TROVES of resources to learn just here on UA-cam. Love your work. Say hello to turkeys for me.
I just got that book from Amazon today. Very explanatory and helpful. It is a great accompaniment with James Stewart's Metric Version Calculus. 👌👌👌 I breezed through the book and understood things quickly. I love the page layouts, few colours in illustrations, footnotes in the margins, etc. It is well worth the money.
This book is all math and doesn't explain much about how this math is related to machine learning. This book is just to look up some concepts you may forgotten and need to understand while reading some other book on machine learning.
Thank you sir. I know the basics from high school and a business management Bachelor's, but given that background, the mathematical symbols have always been a weakness of mine. Will get started right away
Thank you Giles. I was looking of a good book about mathematics for Machine Learning. I will go through this book and hope this book satisfies my thirst for mathematics in Machine Learning.
Hello sir, I am watching this video in 2024 😅 This book is very good 😊 , and I decided to build my own START-UP in Ai .. I am really impressed with this book
Wish you had uploaded it 2-3 months ago. I would have easily passed my ML exam. Weak at Math stuff and kind of annoying at times specifically during an exam. We have to use our analytical skills to solve new problems instead of just theory stuff. Will surely give another try after improving my preperation.
Thank you for your supportive informations to the students like us. You are an amazing individual who is helping to build a career in AI & ML without much monetary pressure.
Although like most of your videos this resource is also superb, I was thinking along the lines of - 'if something is made available for free, does it inspire and make the end user really appreciate the hard work that goes into this and does this actually get used in the end....' I would be interested in knowing your thoughts.
By the way, you fulfilled my wish to KNOW and SEE what were the birds' shadow in the background! Love it. Thanks for that! This reminds us "just don't stick your nose in a book or hands in a computer all day long. Just get a walk and see some Turkeys !" 🦃
