Not a gov hater or whatever but I think her songs are nice but she's overhyped.
She's just another singer like Billie Eilish and even Bruno Mars who's coming also soon
So what makes this the "great victory" to secure her only for Singapore?
The high prices are not organic but due to the limited shows which makes it easy for scalpers

This is a business economy. Just like doing business, you can look down on a single business, but a company or a rich man is not made possible by a single business alone, but by continuous efforts.
The Singapore government has created opportunities for various industries to make money for themselves, instead of simply emptying the national treasury to bail out the people.
Giving you a set of fishing equipment allows you to catch fish yourself instead of constantly giving you fish. This is sustainable.
The governments of various Southeast Asian countries are jealous of Singapore's exclusive contract; then you should think that you are the only genius in the world, while the government officials of various Southeast Asian countries are all idiots!
Then what do you, Mr. genius, suggest to the governement to do about the stadium? Just leave it there, and do nothing?!

jameslim3850 may be correct. What Edwin said may be true. Taylor Swift coming to Singapore is beneficial to Singapore in economics view but is it beneficial to Singaporean? As an average Singaporean with middle income, salaried employee, I do not get a raise, no tax rebate because some superstar is coming to Singapore exclusively nor a promotion. With 1 tourist, I am paid x dollars. But with 1 million tourists, I don't get x + even 10 cents but I have to do more work with the flocking customers coming to the restaurant I am working at. And PS don't say that the restaurant will shut down with no tourist coming in. Most restaurant/attraction/any mode of transportation even planes will only profit if they have local demand. Foreign demand only create more profits for the boss not paid salaried Singaporean employee.
And PS don't say that u are benefiting from this because u are a fan of this one superstar coming to Singapore. We are talking about economic benefit not emotional one in this video.
If taxpayers money is used, we have the right to question how this is used and how does it benefit all if not most of the us.
This is unlike paying Minister high pay because even though we complain about it verbally, we know deep in our heart and mind and agree that this may be a good way to prevent corruption. But how does 1 superstar help me, an average salaried employee living in a HDB flat where 80% of us are, shop at NTUC and take SMRT? PS answer this question directly.

Brings in way more money than it costs so I see it as perfectly justified. Even without a payout, Thailand doesn't have the infrastructure to hold large concerts safely, while Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines all have the extreme religious factions that would be protesting because they saw Taylors thighs. Within 2,000 km of Singapore, it's all shitholes for a female performer. So the classic Asian route would be Australia, Singapore then Japan. If South Korea can build appropriate venues, it would get added to the list. But there's nothing wrong with spending a little money to make it a guarantee.

There was NO exclusive Agreement with Swift. That is a misinformation from the Thai PM. Probably something lost in translation.
Do the math. Forbes had estimated that Taylor Swift would personally earn US$10m to US$13 m per show/per night. So if they go to one city in SE Asia and do 3 shows in the city, Swift would earn $30m to $39m. If they tour to a second city, the total would be $60m to $78m. So if Singapore wanted Swift to perform exclusively in Singapore, how much would Singapore have to pay Swift so that she will forego up to $78m? If your answer is $3m - $4m, or if you believe Singapore paid Swift $4m per show, so $24m (6 shows X $4m) and THAT was enough to bind Swift to an Exclusive agreement... I hope it is not your dream to be an entrepreneur. (Cos you will fail.)
KASM first contacted the promoter and Team Taylor even before they started the Eras Tour, before they announced their overseas tour. Then KASM decided to call STB and the "Whole of Govt" in to negotiate. Why? So that STB can offer a grant. What was this grant for? PM Lee replied to reporters at the ASEAN Summit in Melbourne. The STB fund was to revive tourism in Singapore. It was a post-Covid tourism revival fund. To be used to promote tourism. So why did STB offer the grant to a highly successful concert tour?
Because their original plan was NOT to come to Singapore or any city in SE Asia. The tour would go to Australia and Japan. Swifties in SE Asia can catch the show in Australia or Japan. But the tour was NOT coming to this region.
So KASM, STB, and MCCY proposed that the Eras Tour come to Singapore. And they offered lots of support. The whole of govt support for marketing and promotion. And Team Singapore offered "to deliver Asia" to Swift. Basically, they offered to smoothen the way for them to bring the tour to Singapore, and made it very easy for Team Taylor to say "yes".
I can only guess what the rest of the terms of the agreement were, but I suspect to prevent "mission drift" someone (maybe AEG) put the phrase "Only in Singapore" in the agreement, and also confidentiality clauses. The details of the agreement cannot be divulge to 3rd parties.
So how did the agreement came to be known that Swift agreed to a exclusive engagement in Singapore?
So the Thai PM asked AEG to bring Eras Tour to Bangkok. How good is the Thai PM's English? Was there a translator? So AEG probably tried to tell the PM that the tour dates and venues were decided way ahead of time, and that Singapore had even provided a grant, but only to perform in Singapore. The nuances were probably lost in translation. What the Thai PM grasped was, 1) Singapore provided a grant. and 2) Swift was only going to perform in Singapore. And so he understood it as SG paid Swift for exclusivity.
But Singapore cannot set the record straight, because business confidentiality.
(PM Lee tried to hint at this in his reply to reporters in Melbourne, when he said that if Singapore had not made an agreement with Swift, who knows if she might even have come to this region. )
