The Port of Dover is a cross-channel ferry, cruise terminal, maritime cargo and marina facility situated in Dover, Kent, south-east England. It is the nearest English port to France, at just 34 kilometres (21 mi) away, and is one of the world's busiest maritime passenger ports, with 11.7 million passengers, 2.6 million lorries, 2.2 million cars and motorcycles and 80,000 coaches passing through it in 2017, and with an annual turnover of £58.5 million a year. This contrasts with the nearby Channel Tunnel, the only fixed link between the island of Great Britain and the European mainland, which now handles an estimated 20 million passengers and 1.6 million trucks per year.
The modern port facility features a large artificial harbour constructed behind stone piers and a defensive concrete breakwater. The port is divided into two main sections: the Eastern Docks serve as the main cross-channel ferry terminal, while the Western Docks contain a cruise ship terminal and a yacht marina along with cargo facilities.
The Port of Dover has a long history and possesses several listed buildings and structures. The port is owned and operated by the Dover Harbour Board, a statutory corporation formed by Royal Charter in 1606 by King James I. Most of the board members of the Dover Harbour Board are appointees of the Department for Transport. The port has its own private police force, the Port of Dover Police. The current port traffic volumes and urban population categorise Dover as a Large-Port Town.

Really nice high quality footage, that's great to see all this ship action for a change. It's pretty cool to see how tightly they can maneuver these massive vessels in the tight port.
Glad you enjoyed it mate ! Thank you for watching. I will try to do some aviation videos in 8K
no
Stunning quality mate, fantastic to have so many movements in Dover. You gave me a nice idea, my office is overlooking the local port, one of this days I will bring my camera :)
That's great idea ! I love to watch ships too , specially in the storm.
Wow, amazing quality. Thanks for sharing. A really nice viewpoint with great overview of the ferry traffic. Huge like from me. Greetings!
Many thanks mate !
Those ferries have a unique construction at the bow.....
Great video, very well shot, but I 'm sorry, I missed the stormy seas. Was there a subliminal frame inserted somewhere in the sequence? If you spot it, please give me a time code. A few tiny white caps. Force six at most. The quality of the footage is really good and people who are interested in ferries will watch and appreciate it without resorting to clickbait titles.
Thank you so much for your suggestion and feedback. I did create this kind of title to attract more views. No one watched it before with an original title. UA-cam push us to make these kind of titles. Sorry !
Pride of Canterbury looking a bit forlorn. Superb coverage as usual and superb photography. You have Dover covered now mate, got to try Soton or Felixstowe next mate.
Can't get enough of this.
Glad you enjoyed it Steve ! I'm also noticed that Pride of Canterbury looks a bit forlorn
Lots of neglect on P&O's part. Guys been cutting budgets wherever possible - including sacking 800 of their staff earlier in March. Ironic considering that they have two hybrid ferries on order...
Holy shot man, this quality is so epic! Liked!
Turned off the depressing news channel and i'm watching this instead on my work from home lunch break. Much more relaxing! Holiday nostalgia and some amazingly shot footage. Thank you
Im so glad that you did find it so relaxing. Thanks a lot for watching !
What a spectacular video 👏👏 the quality and amount of details in the picture are insane 👍👍 I usually don’t watch marine videos this is something else ❤️👏 Did you shoot this using a Log profile 🤔
Thank you for watching ! No Log. Just normal picture style . If I did use Log my files would be much bigger.
PS : Nice new Avatar you have for your channel.
@@topfelya thanks 🙏 I really appreciate your feedback. True, 4K files are massive and I can only imagine 8k ones 😐 really impressive video 👏👏
As a Spanish seafarer It was great to see the old Ciudad de Mahón from Trasmediterranea , now Isle Of Inisheer from Irish Ferries
Ferries have definitely improved in speed and comfort since my first trip from Belfast to Liverpool
In case if someone doesn't understand how massive 8K actually is
720p is approx 1 megapixel,
1080p is approx 2.1 megapixel,
2160p is approx 8.3 megapixel,
and 4320p is approx 33.2 megapixel per frame
So yes thats a lot of data and detail
Thank you for an explanation ! It took me 7,5 days to upload this video to UA-cam.
Good
Капитаны молодцы! Швартовка с ходу кормой с разворота! Класс!
It’s hard to be an Island Nation! Ferry transport is so vital, the ports are very busy no time for bad weather.
Well said ! We rely on good weather
Great videos

What an incredible video, the quality is outstanding! Its really nice to see how busy this port is, can I ask what camera and lens you use to get this quality?

I love you ferry ⛴️so much 💗 ❤

Glad you liked it. Thank you for your feedback. Best way to watch it is in 4K resolution on big screen TV
🙌
Best time to sail on ferries, helps you get your "sea legs."
👍👍
amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video which I enjoyed immensely. Question. What is the metal frame under the bow on many of the ships? I have not seen that in other ports. Is it to help with docking? Can someone please help my ignorance decrease a little? Thanks. 😀
That is a very good question ! I was thinking about that metal frame too. I hope someone will answer your question here.
The large metal frame on the bow of the Dunkerque Seaways is called a bulbous bow. It's a protruding structure located at the front (bow) of the ship, typically underwater. Bulbous bows are designed to improve the hydrodynamic efficiency of the vessel by reducing drag and increasing fuel efficiency. They work by changing the flow of water around the hull, reducing wave-making resistance and improving overall performance, especially at higher speeds.
@@vonesk Thanks for your informative reply, however I am not referring to the bulbous bow itself but the metal frame to each side of the bow.
very cool video👍
Thank you 👍
Nice Video! 🥰
Thanks! 😊

Me too ! I just found it out recently . To watch it in 8K use a Google Chrome or Opera browser.
THAT IS A LOT OF FERRIES. . . . . HOW MANY PASSENGER/ CARS AVERAGE PER SHIP/TRIP. . . . HOW MANY CROSSINGS PER DAY, . .EXCITING
The average number of passengers or cars per ship trip can vary significantly depending on the size of the ferry or vessel, the route, and the time of year. However, to provide a general idea, a typical ferry operating at Dover Port, which connects the UK to mainland Europe, might carry anywhere from 100 to over 1000 passengers per trip, along with hundreds of cars or other vehicles.
As for the number of crossings per day at Dover Port, this can also vary. Dover is one of the busiest ferry ports in the world, especially for cross-channel travel between the UK and France. On average, there might be dozens of crossings per day, particularly during peak travel seasons. However, the exact number can fluctuate based on factors such as demand, weather conditions, and the schedules of different ferry operators. It's best to check with the port or ferry companies for the most up-to-date information on schedules and frequencies.
@@topfelya thank you, I would like to start my own ferry service in the Philippines. .. . Appreciate your input. .
@@edmundcasey7765 I do wish you a good luck with starting a new business !
