For me, the layout mattered more when I specifically went to a more aggressive ball to play inside in the oil. I wanted a ball motion similar to my more traditional out side shot, but needed something that could account for my ball speed. simply putting the pin in the ring finger hole on an solid or hybrid asymmetric was the key (vs a pin out). Pretty much everything else was dominated by the core/coverstock combination, and really, that specific adjustment was to keep the ball motion more "similar" to what I like, making it easier for me to read the breakpoints.

I swore I watched a vid on here, pro's, had the same ball, 1 for left lane and other for right lane, different drill layouts

It's possible, sometimes rare, but often related to the oil on each lane being different and demanding a different look.

Lou definitely knows his stuff. Video is still too long IMHO, and could use more visuals.

You think about your Pro Shop guy not giving you your information, should I go somewhere else?

The new balance hole rule changed nothing, with regard to the stated goal of reducing oil pattern breakdown, if everyone simply chooses aggressive, high flaring asymmetrical balls in the future.

I’m betting that 95%+ of league bowlers, they wouldn’t notice a change in layout. We aren’t accurate enough for us to actually judge.

I would agree kinda...in my experience around 10%-15% of league bowlers are good to very good bowlers.

There's some truth to that, but layouts are the difference between needing to be exact on your release at every shot versus having miss room built into the ball's travel through the pins. Layouts are CARRY not motion.

I hate the statement layout doesn't matter. Ball design intent + Bowler gets you TO the pocket, layout gets you THROUGH the pins. All 3 pieces are important but they don't do the same thing, people who are implying that are just wrong.
