    Thank you for taking us along. This guy is to funny. My daughter grew up a Corps brat too. No a lot of farming or ranching done by the Marines since they moved from horses to vehicles. 😁 It's not easy to take on a new profession on any day. Raising livestock is more daunting. Kudos to this young man for signing on with his Dad. He's learning. God Bless 🙏❤️ Semper Fi. 🦬🇺🇸

    Always interesting to see how people got into bison farming. Love the shift in majors - just a small difference, but practical/useful counts unless there is a mad dream involved. From one military brat to another, Total City Girl (stayed where the jobs were, since didn’t own bison).

  • @henrymichaelwilson8107
    @henrymichaelwilson8107 2 роки тому +1

    Hello there. If you can make it so they can't see out of the pen you are sorting them in. There's less problems. We used to keep limousine cattle has for breeding loose and never tied up. Some of the cow would kill you. You could see it in their eyes.

    • @BrokenArrowBison

  • @01abihsot

    Bison are awesome we looked at getting into bison vs cattle the cost of animals and the cost of infrastructure was triple of cattle and returns to make money was lower cattle was a better choice you can basically sell two calf crops to one bison crop

    • @BrokenArrowBison
      @BrokenArrowBison  3 роки тому +4

      Sorry you didn’t get into it. The cost is not as high as what someone must’ve told you. The profits are actually better than beef also. There is more cost associated with the squeeze chute and the corral but if you are starting from scratch then it really isn’t that much more. The fencing is almost identical to beef. Yes you do have a longer wait to get a return because bison typically have a calf in their third year as opposed to having a calf in their second year for beef but… bison live twice as long as beef so your return on investment is much better. Also because they cost more is an advantage to you as a producer because you can have a higher return her acre on your farm. I have talked to many bison producers that used to be cattle producers and have switched over because of the monetary gain. Both industries are definitely hard starting out though!

    Work smarter not harder. Nature figures out what animals work for the environment. And cattle don't compared to bison. Cattle are too fragile , too much work, and can't handle hostile environments compared to bison.

  • @twilacarson2308

    I on the other hand am against this young mans method of 'caring' for the bison. He doesn't. All animals need care wild or not. This is one of our jobs on earth is to care for the animals as all kinds of things can start and get out of hand before the farmer knows it. I do know that there is a pathogen that can come up from the dirt and infect the bison. It happened at Elk Island National Park that has had bison for like 50 years or more. You never know what can happen if nobody is around. He should care more or he will lose them all. City kids. What do they know.
