The Irish are always welcome in France.
I think they'd be welcome even on North Sentinal Island, the inhabitants might have a habit of murdering anyone showing up on their shores, but in the case of Irish football fans, I think they might make an exception, I mean, how can you _not_ love these friendly and happy drunks, you don't hear any other football fans singing "clean up for the boys in green" or an equivalent thereof, while they're cleaning up after themselves, or taunting the other team's fans with "go home to your sexy wife"... Gotta fucking love the Irish.:-)
As an American, I just can't help but appreciate how awesome the French police are. Just peacekeeping. Letting people have a good time. Making sure things don't get out of hand, but not actively targeting people or needlessly arresting people. Its a breath of fresh air of what policing should be. And the Irish fans recognize it too. "stand up for the French police!" That is respect. And their method of peacekeeping deserves that respect. I dream of having that in the US someday.
Reason we can’t have what you long for is less about the police and more about the behavior and attitudes of the American public.

My hometown, I was there, went to the fan zone with my Irish flag (I was living in Ireland at that time), Irish fans are so wholesome. God I miss football with fans.. My stadium, away days, the feeling of your team scoring.. Bring back football!

I was at an Ireland and Wales friendly in Dublin and the Welsh fans only had one stand behind the net. They started singing that song and every Irish fan went silent just to listen to it.
I was in Lille with my brother for the Italy game! The streets of Lille were alive of fun laughter and just good spirits. It was fabulous. We met a group of Dutch guys on a stag in metro going to the game they were mental the train nearly came off its tracks with all the.bouncing! In stadium we were sitting beside two Italian fans who were cold at the start but by games end we all singing and dancing even tho Italy lost. We both got through some memories

I was at the Strand Hotel with a tour group in Clonmany, Donegal and watched this match there. In the afterglow of the Irish win, I had the opportunity to play Irish music for the folks there. It was a extraordinary, magical evening!
