The first movie was brilliant. The 2nd and 3rd had great first accident scenes but the kills started getting more and more unbelievable. Screws unscrewing themselves and water magically moving where it needed to go. They’re still enjoyable to watch but I wish they had kept the accidents more believable. The actual kills were great tho!
Compared to the first one where the friend slipped on the cleaning agent that magically transferred itself over to where he would step, hanging himself, and then recede back to where it came from? It’s simply an issue with any sequels where they’re expected to up the ante or somehow do something entirely new while maintaining the spirit of what was originally done (very difficult to do).
Always wondered had they not showed up and screamed at Tim about the pigeons he would have never ran after them thus not died’ Same with elevator Had they not called and freaked the lady out saying a man w/ hooks she wouldn’t have panicked when her hair got caught
Screws can unscrew themselves in certain situations. I worked in a hardware store filling gas cylinders from the large tanks and one time I actually saw the screw that held the valve handle slowly unscrewing itself from the constant vibration of the gas flow. That freaked me out because I'd seen FD5 in cinemas only a week prior. Glued the screw into place to stop it from happening again.
I didn’t watch these movies until after surviving a workzone crash which killed by coworker on a highway. The portrayal of Death was spot-on to what I was experiencing during the time between the state of shock and when PTSD actually settled in. Honestly, this helped me strike a balance between being able to go outside, but also be wary of real dangers for which I must remain aware 👍🏻
The first Final Destination movie is one of my all time favourite theatre experiences. The anticipation of impending deaths was physically uncomfortable
Clear confirms Alex's death in Final Destination 2. When she's in the hospital and Kim tells her she has a responsibility to help, Clear shows her a picture of Alex after he was killed by a brick to the face.
Out of the first three "Death Visions", the second one is the one that sticks with me the most. You can usually avoid getting on an airplane and roller coasters are typically only found in pricey theme parks. The highway though... you typically take it on the way to work 😳 My main problem with FD3 is that the accident was caused by the pervert bringing his camera on the ride. In the vision, he loses the camera when it's knocked out of his hands and it falls down onto the tracks where it gets stuck. This camera is what caused the crash. However, he gets off the coaster after the girl freaks out over her vision and He Takes The Camera With Him. Therefore, there shouldn't have been a crash
@@iamjro Yeah, but the camera made the actual accident occur though. Even if the rails were loose, the incident should not have happened that quickly or maybe even at all until other rides of it were done down the line.
I've always liked how subdued and mysterious the first film was. While I understand the appeal of the sequels and seeing the creative deaths, I miss the sense that there was a way out, a way to escape death. With the sequels, it just becomes obvious that they're all going to die horribly eventually, whether it be on screen or not, so it kind of ruins the plot.
These movies are my guilty pleasure. The best thing about these movies is the horror because stays with you long after the movie. That’s horror done right.
The bus accident in the first movie was something I can never forget. It was the first movie scene that I saw in a movie theater that actually made me jump out my seat and run up the isle lol. I remember the entire theater having a similar reaction. Priceless
I bet when they sat down to brainstorm all the different death scenes for all these movies I bet they came up with a lot more gory more crazy but plausible situations. The creativity that death has itself the concept and how random it is. If you were look at death as an artist , and you really thought about it then you would realize that Death has an unlimited well of creatively random and frighteningly chaotic moments to think of or create. For how complex us humans are it does not take much to end our lives . Isn't it frightening how at any second, in any way, anything could happen that could kill you????
Final destination 1: Death comes to get you Final Destination 2: Death comes to get you Final destination 3: The main character "accidentally" kills everyone, she did all the heavy lifting. The guy that got tailgated: the main character started the truck rolling The suntan girls: Got trapped because the main character called them Gym guy: The main character made him boast, which got him killed. The girl that gets nailed: Main character interfered, no one would have gotten hurt The last death might be a stretch: he got killed because he wanted revenge, which is because his GF just got killed in front of him because of the main character indirectly; She did bring him there for Death to finish off, just like the rest. Wendy really did most of the work in this movie...
the third is my personal favourite, i've nearly slipped out of a harness on a massive ride before and that fucked me up and just added to my already intense fear of heights, 3 got me in concept harder than any other of the films, and the photo idea was a really neat concept i think
Final destination 2 and 5 ate just the best out of all of them mainly cause their big death scene is just more real, in my opinion. Not all of us hop on the plane or ride roller coasters or watch a Nascar race, but nearly all of us use highways and bridges.
@Sahar Pournazari I love the rewatch of the 5th cause you notice all the old tech and lingo it was such a great twist at the end I was left jaw dropped in the theater
I don’t think the horror movie has affected how I act in the real world more than Final Destination… and by that I mean, whenever I see a truck with big logs on it, I merely go to the farthest lane away from it, based solely on the movie
The concept of Final Destination is absolutely brilliant. Couple that with the time it came out, the young cast and the fact that horror movies were amidst a sort of Renaissance... It's become a modern day classic that is almost impossible to hate. It's also a movie that I will watch whenever it shows up on cable. Definitely a solid series.
The concept is absolutely ridiculous if you were referring to the plot (even for horror movies). I assume you mean brilliant as a marketing concept ie. It was overall a very profitable franchise for the genre (people don’t watch horror movies for the plot).
Yeah so, the "Paris" scene at the end was actually filmed in my hometown of Victoria BC here on Vancouver Island. Downtown has some Victorian era architecture that was close enough to pull off the European look. Specifically they are sitting in Bastion Square.
the reason the final destination films are so iconic and impactful is because instead of the typical horror movie monsters, the horror of the films were centered around accidents that can very much happen to just about anyone in real life, which gives everyone who's seen the movies a sense of dread and everlasting unease after watching.
The Final Destination franchise is one that will _never_ get old for me. While it's always about death coming for you, the creative possibilities in each potential storyline are endless.
Aside from that log scene, something that sticks out for me was one in FD5. The scene where one of the characters was covered in hot tar. While most, if not all, "deaths" were quick, he had to suffer for a while. If you look closely, his skin literally came off as he tried to hold on the bridge.
Interesting that it started as an X files script, because I distinctly remember that one kid (the guy who dies in the bathtub) was one of the 'creature of the week' monsters in an episode. That being I think the only other place I remember that actor from. I wonder if Wan & Co. worked on that particular episode? And I guess on doing my homework, it is the same actor (Chad Donella), the episode is called 'Hungry' and they did NOT write it, Vince Gilligan did lol.
@@magicmarvel Yeah he was like a real life vampire ghoul thing with removable dentures over pointy teeth, and a wig I think. Been a while but for some reason it was just one episode that stuck with me.
This series single-handedly traumatized an entire generation into being better drivers with one scene. And personally, the pool scene in the 4th movie is the only scene out of all these films that I cannot watch.
I am the biggest Tony Todd fan, I swear if i ever meet him in real life, it would mostly likely result in me embarrassing myself in a total fangirl freak-out moment.
Rode in an elevator at the Palms Casino with him during a horror convention. Neither me nor my 6'2 boyfriend could say a thing to him. I was just amazed at how tall Tony is in person. But yeah, just me, Tony, and my bf in an elevator, which I have a huge fear of. However, Candyman in the elevator with you just takes it to 11. Also the Palms elevators had like mirror panels inside so it gave it a fun house effect as well. Best convention experience ever though
I remember reading about the original ending of the first film a long time ago, and I gotta say I really do wish they would have gone with a mix of that and the one they went with. Either have Alex or Carter sacrifice themself at the very end to cheat death that way to win the movie and establish that as a thing. Or, based on the second movie and how it played out, have Alex and Clear make the baby but Carter dies, and the two of them win for making a baby. Then in the sequel when the "only new life beats death" or whatever becomes canonical they can find an internet post about cheating death and visions posted by Alex and Clear, they track them down and the then learn about the rule that way. Only since there was already a pregnant chick there have the main chick realize that won't save her or the others unless they survive long enough for that chick to have her baby. Make it more about them cheating death than just looking for the signs.
this series scarred me for life as a lil kid. I'm over most of the things but whenever i see that log truck irl, I'm instantly getting reminded of the movie and do my utmost best to drive safely near one.
The road crash is very impressive. Practical effects all the way!! I wish the character from the first film did not die in 2. The saga should have had a continuous thread like Scream to get people hooked for the next one.
I remember watching the first movie with some friends as a teen and eventhough they never scared me I can totally see how and why they can affect people. One of my friends stood up at one moment out of the blue and went to the next room. When we saw he wasn't going to the bathroom and was just walking around in the room we paused the movie and another friend went to see if he was alright. He said "I'm not scared about things like freddy because I know they don't exist, but this is death". He was having a mild panic attack. And he was right. Except for the water magically receding there was nothing weird about the "villain" of the movie. You can get hit by as a bus or have something dropped on your head at any moment. I think the convoluted ways people get killed in the sequels add to the entertainment value but (most of) the deaths in the first one seem so real and plausible that they trigger a basic fear that no other horror franchise does.
There is a quote toward the climax of the first movie where Ali Larter's character, Clear Rivers, says something like, "You can stay at my dad's cabin. It is just a couple miles from my house." And that just... it just makes me laugh so much
Death is just trying to do his job and someone is messing up his work and now he has to clean it up 😆 So the villain is the one sending premonitions to these people 😂
I will never forget what I was doing that day that I first watched this movie back in 2004. I was 10 years old visiting my grandma(my mom's mom) in Mexico with my family. One day my dad wanted to pay respect to this saint's shrine on top of a mountain so he took me and my two older brothers to climb this mountain and the journey to the top was crazy once there we saw pictures, flowers, candles, and letters thanking the saint. All I could remember was the view from the top it was beautiful. It was time to go down the mountain and my eldest brother ended up cutting his hand pretty bad getting down so we rushed to my other grandma's(my dad's mom) house she helped him out. We ended up going back to my grandma's house(my mom's mom) and they had been promoting this movie for that whole week and it so happens to be on the tv when we get there and it traumatized me and my brothers and sister. I used to fear Death because of this movie, but now I understand it's apart of life.
Final Destination 3 is my favorite. The rollercoaster scene is thrilling and every death is memorable. The interactive dvd was a fun time too. Also it has Mary Elizabeth Winstead in a lead role, need I say more?
I graduated highschool in 06 so I've always felt nostalgic about that one. Second fave of the franchise after the first. That tanning bed scene is brutal.
Final Destination 3 was MOST DEFINITELY my favorite. I remember in middle school me and my friends were scared to ride The Hulk Rollercoaster 🎢 at Universal for our 8th grade field trip because of FD3 😭😭😭😭
Pretty cool hearing the first was mostly filmed on Vancouver island where I live! I'm definitely gonna keep that in mind next time I watch this classic
That log thing happened to me in real life except with a ladder. It was terrifying some how I didn’t get hit. That movie makes me paranoid to drive sometimes.
There's actually an urban myth about the roller coaster song. You can hear what sounds like a woman screaming in the recording, which apparently was someone being killed in the studio. In the film, they specifically loop that part of the song. I heard about this a few months before seeing the movie, which made the scene that much more haunting.
I saw Final destination 2 when I was still in my early teenage years, and I still get anxious when literally any truck (logs or not but especially with logs) is driving near me. And I'm turning 30 y/o soon. Good job for these movies for traumatising an entire generation, and yet we keep going back to see them again and again!
One of those franchises that pulled me into horror as a preteen. Between these, Saw, and Scream, we were spoiled with some of the wildest and most unique movies and hilariously bad late sequels
Another nicely researched and composed piece Ty. This thrillogy was original, exhilarating and adds a nice aroma to the horror palate. The enemy is death ostensibly. But you can't fight it or outrun it as The Reaper always arrives on schedule. Part 2 really was the zenith of the franchise and next level excellence. Firing on all cylinders. My only nitpick with the three is that I wish we got an origin story for the visions. Possibly the Angel of Death literally possesses a human host to ensure that the ones who escape are reclaimed. The audience then has to discover who it is. P.S. Against popular opinion I like 4, hate CGI crapfest pt 5 and think the franchise should stay 'dead.'
I remember the feeling i had the first time i saw the plane crash premonition scene. It was like i was there. I needed to pause for 10 minutes just to process what happened
I absolutely loooove the second movie! That highway scene had stuck to me for years. I refuse to drive behind any large trucks like that because of it. I had no idea the crash was practical and so many of the deaths. The body casts looked so good. Nothing can ever compare to practical effects.
Great Review!! Among my very favorite horror comedy drama action movies ever. I own every single one of them on DVD. That said, the first one, the second one, and the third one are my favorites. The rest of them are fun repeats basically. Notably, the second one is really good and the Director commentaries on the DVDs are hilarious, especially on the first two. It's funny to me that my favorite of the sequels is final destination 2 and it grossed the least amount of all of them. Also it's funny to me that all of the complaints that people had with the movies showing them more of the same, are the exact reasons why I loved everyone of them. To me, there are nuances in how each one was made with small changes to the design and interesting characters to follow. In the first three movies specifically, I think the character development was very strong because by the time they get killed, you're pretty sad about it. You find yourself pretty much rooting for all of them.
Never knew this was an adaptation of a potential X Files episode. Very cool. Now that you mentioned the ties with the show, the Actor who Plays Todd is actually the shark guy from the later episodes when t-1000 is on and not Mulder or Scully. Pretty interesting to see the connections behind the movie. That shark episode was horrid and nothing to par of the original beginning seasons. He needed brains for food

@@Beans4431 I have a theory his character was Death in disguise the whole time which explains why he doesn't show up often later

There are so many things they did right in Final Destination 3, and casting Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the lead was the best one.
Please, please, please!
Tell me why is it that people love that one the most? And why is it that she's so praised?
I want to watch all of those films, but could you write me an essay specifically on what things the film-makers did right with the third one that makes it and the lead actress stand out?
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ Nothing Really, She's a really great actress. The Only lead character that acts exceptionally well is Devon Sawa in the first film. He Was perfectly cast in my opinion.
The character doesn’t stand out at all. She’s just attractive with a default personality. Clear was so much better and actually acted like a human.
@@mehashi disagree, think she portrayed trauma the best out of all protagonists in all the FD films. at least i think she was the most convincing even during the cringe acting era of 2000s movies
Definitely like the first 3 films. The 4th one, i don't know what the hell they were doing with that. The 5th was pretty good and more grounded than the 4th. For reason though I find myself rewatching the 3rd film most.
@Seventhkeyomegasghost8233 That's because the late David R Ellis directed FD2 and FD4. James Wong directed the original and the third films in the franchise! It's too bad Wong didn't direct all 5 films!?🤔🎥🎬🎞
Me too!
@@SuperMarioBrosIIII guess 2 Wong’s couldn’t make it right
Badum dum 🥁
What killed the series was the fact that everyone loses, every time, leaving no way to change it up. The whole (awesome) concept is just completely locked in. You can't really change anything.
The final destination basically confirmed this.
@@TheEnigmaticBM39 *sad face*
i guess that is the issue with their "advesary" being death, a constant and neverending thing, there is no escaping that, i guess that's why i like the series so much, the fact that it forces the characters to face their own mortality, and make peace with what they've done i guess, that said, i guess death is a sore loser, i mean, for what reason did the deaths have to be so damn gory, could've just done something like a heart atk i guess, but that doesn't make for a fun movie XD
@@shadowmaster335 the really stupid thing is the complete pointlessness of the "saving" visions in the first place.

@@CaulkMongler Didn't that happen in the first movie?
They made death an omnipotent/supernatural force...
Always wondered had they not showed up and screamed at Tim about the pigeons he would have never ran after them thus not died’
Same with elevator
Had they not called and freaked the lady out saying a man w/ hooks she wouldn’t have panicked when her hair got caught
The first trilogy was absolutely amazing!
Crazy how the 2nd one is my favorite with the best concept (death fixing the ripples) but got the least.
Also, amazing video!
A staple movie of the 2000s and such a unique concept of thriller/horror for that time and still holds up nearly 25 years later
I grew up loving these movies.....saw all in theaters.....now 35yrs old & I can't not think of the 2nd one when I see a log truck. Just can't.
The franchise that scared a whole generation from driving behind log trucks
Clear confirms Alex's death in Final Destination 2. When she's in the hospital and Kim tells her she has a responsibility to help, Clear shows her a picture of Alex after he was killed by a brick to the face.
Out of the first three "Death Visions", the second one is the one that sticks with me the most. You can usually avoid getting on an airplane and roller coasters are typically only found in pricey theme parks. The highway though... you typically take it on the way to work 😳
My main problem with FD3 is that the accident was caused by the pervert bringing his camera on the ride.
WOW. ... GREAT CATCH
I thought one of the rail pipes broke loose too?
@@iamjro Yeah, but the camera made the actual accident occur though. Even if the rails were loose, the incident should not have happened that quickly or maybe even at all until other rides of it were done down the line.
Well said Cooper
@@iamjro that's not what caused the train to go out of control though
I've always liked how subdued and mysterious the first film was. While I understand the appeal of the sequels and seeing the creative deaths, I miss the sense that there was a way out, a way to escape death. With the sequels, it just becomes obvious that they're all going to die horribly eventually, whether it be on screen or not, so it kind of ruins the plot.
These movies are my guilty pleasure. The best thing about these movies is the horror because stays with you long after the movie. That’s horror done right.
I love the first 2 movies. They play on some of the biggest fears we all have. The plane crash and highway pile up scenes are nightmare inducing.
The bus accident in the first movie was something I can never forget. It was the first movie scene that I saw in a movie theater that actually made me jump out my seat and run up the isle lol. I remember the entire theater having a similar reaction. Priceless
The concept of this movie is still living in my head rent free I had to sometimes stay alert when i ride an elevator 😂
Yeah. The most comedic too. I mean the first 2 and 1/2 deaths yeah but. Eh
The third installment is the best, no questions asked
Nowhere near as good as the first two films but opinions differ!
@@irina1296 agree to disagree!!!
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is such a great actress in that one. 3 is the most underrated one for sure
5th one lol.
It's number one
Gotta love JoBlo Horror on a Sunday morning.
And on a Monday afternoon
Don't forget on a Tuesday night
The first 3 films were amazinggg
I agree, but you just can't help the whole franchise right? Or is it just me?
It should’ve ended at 3, I hope the upcoming one surpasses my expectations tho
Final destination 1: Death comes to get you
Final Destination 2: Death comes to get you
Final destination 3: The main character "accidentally" kills everyone, she did all the heavy lifting.
The guy that got tailgated: the main character started the truck rolling
The suntan girls: Got trapped because the main character called them
Gym guy: The main character made him boast, which got him killed.
The girl that gets nailed: Main character interfered, no one would have gotten hurt
The last death might be a stretch: he got killed because he wanted revenge, which is because his GF just got killed in front of him because of the main character indirectly; She did bring him there for Death to finish off, just like the rest.
Wendy really did most of the work in this movie...
I’m obsessed with this take. I love this way of looking at the story
the third is my personal favourite, i've nearly slipped out of a harness on a massive ride before and that fucked me up and just added to my already intense fear of heights, 3 got me in concept harder than any other of the films, and the photo idea was a really neat concept i think
Final destination 2 and 5 ate just the best out of all of them mainly cause their big death scene is just more real, in my opinion. Not all of us hop on the plane or ride roller coasters or watch a Nascar race, but nearly all of us use highways and bridges.
The twist in the 5th one still lives rent free in my head
@Sahar Pournazari I love the rewatch of the 5th cause you notice all the old tech and lingo it was such a great twist at the end I was left jaw dropped in the theater
No. Not At all.
Lol 5 is trash 1 and 3 better
I loved this series. The less we say about the fourth one though...the better.
I don’t think the horror movie has affected how I act in the real world more than Final Destination… and by that I mean, whenever I see a truck with big logs on it, I merely go to the farthest lane away from it, based solely on the movie
Critics don't care if a movie is good, they usually live in a different world from us normal people!
Audiences didn't like Final Destination 3??!!! That's the best movie of all of them. It's so fun and amazing.
The Final Destination franchise is one that will _never_ get old for me. While it's always about death coming for you, the creative possibilities in each potential storyline are endless.
I’m curious to know, what was everyone’s favorite beginning death scene and why?
None. I know they are fake but still every death just ups my worries on how I can possibly die 😅
And some how I still watched them
@crunchyfresco maybe a better question is which premonition did you think had the coolest effects and was most impactful
Aside from that log scene, something that sticks out for me was one in FD5. The scene where one of the characters was covered in hot tar.
While most, if not all, "deaths" were quick, he had to suffer for a while. If you look closely, his skin literally came off as he tried to hold on the bridge.
Definitely FD 2 - the greatest opening!
Omg that’s why he looked so familiar! Wasn’t he the guy who worked in a fast food restaurant and ended up eating people? 🥹
That’s where I saw that dude from before
@@magicmarvel Yeah he was like a real life vampire ghoul thing with removable dentures over pointy teeth, and a wig I think.
The series is fantastic - great concept and well executed - STILL hold up after decades !!!
Definitely a fan of the 1st two movies on the franchise. Kinda went off the tracks from there, pun intended 😁
I love how they never get old!
Huge fan of both you and the Final Destination franchise 💖 thanks for sharing 😁
Hey Justbwanted to say thank you for creating this content CONSISTENTLY. You’re in a league of your own. Thank you.
great movies, I still have much love for this franchise
It's all part of Death's game like you can't die until your turn, signs before someone's next, etc.
Love all of your bts info and personal thoughts rather than just explaining what happens in the films - great vid!
At least the first three try to connect with each other's movies.
I always thought that Ian supposedly holding a gun towards Wendy. So it's more convincing that he caused Wendy's death.
as a massive horror fan who rarely gets shocked, these movies actually scare me.
They traumatized a whole generation, especially seeing a car carrying logs lol
I graduated highschool in 06 so I've always felt nostalgic about that one. Second fave of the franchise after the first. That tanning bed scene is brutal.
The third one is my second favorite (after the first).
Also it had the best recurring song…so creepy!
Mary Elizabeth Winstead🌹
1st one didnt have a great opening death scene. Part 2 deserves credit for starting that in detail.
That original ending makes so much more sense though.
A Big Fan of the Franchise. One of the Best.
Final Destination 3 was MOST DEFINITELY my favorite. I remember in middle school me and my friends were scared to ride The Hulk Rollercoaster 🎢 at Universal for our 8th grade field trip because of FD3 😭😭😭😭
I consider the first 3 a trilogy. And it’s a great one at that. The other 2 films were just fun little add ons. And number 3 is my personal favourite.
Pretty cool hearing the first was mostly filmed on Vancouver island where I live! I'm definitely gonna keep that in mind next time I watch this classic
Fell out of the shower and gave myself a concussion listening to this. If that’s not a bad omen, I don’t know what is.
That log thing happened to me in real life except with a ladder. It was terrifying some how I didn’t get hit. That movie makes me paranoid to drive sometimes.
That log scene on the highway lives rent free in my head til this day. Anytime I see a truck hauling logs or pipes, I get the hell away from it.
Final Destination is one of those film series that is eternally re-watchable. And yes, the log truck has been scary ever since
Yeah, that logging truck scene is so insanely well done. Completely terrifying.
There's actually an urban myth about the roller coaster song. You can hear what sounds like a woman screaming in the recording, which apparently was someone being killed in the studio. In the film, they specifically loop that part of the song. I heard about this a few months before seeing the movie, which made the scene that much more haunting.
Always feel like I'm just waiting for a Final Destination moment waiting to happen when I'm on the interstate too!😅Cheers!
To this day, everytime i'm on a highway behind a big truck i remember the highway accident scene. Is was epic. Nobody can deny that.
This is one of my favorite horror franchises of all time
FD3 is my fave of the whole series. I remember seeing it in theatres when i was 20 and immediately was obsessed!
I love that they did so many practical effects.
Still get nervous driving behind trucks to this day. Poles. Wood, ladders, anything can take us out
Never knew this was an adaptation of a potential X Files episode.
