Hi Chris', I'm in the process of transitioning, after 30 years or so, from Adobe to Affinity (at age 80) and clear presentations like this are invaluable. Thanks.

Thank you so much! That’s inspirational, too many people back away from technical challenges, even young people. I think Affinity is pretty fantastic for the price and I’m sure you’ll find it does the job perfectly well. Look forward to improved selection tools in the near future. The next video will focus on making selections and turning them into masks. Good luck with your photography!

Thanks Chris - another nice introduction and explanation. What I have to do now is practice, practice, practice.....

Perfect! Thank you, yes practice is everything with this type of application. And lateral thinking. There’s a lot more than meets the eye in selections, which I’ll probably do next week.

Chris, it’s not entirely true that you can’t revisit changes you make in the develop persona. There are three options for outputting from the develop persona, pixel, embedded and linked. If you choose pixel you can’t revisit the changes but embedded and linked will allow you to.

Thanks for pointing this out. Very helpful. I’ll include these in the next video.

@ it isn’t particularly obvious and was only introduced in v2. Embedded increases the file size significantly I believe. Love your UA-cam channel by the way.

Excellent timing for these Affinity Photo tutorials covering overlays, layers, selections etc for making local adjustments.
I hope you will follow on quickly when the next major point release (V2.6) of Affinity Photo is released in the near future. This update will introduce AI masking and your tutorials will then provide a complete "course" 👍

Maybe I misunderstood (quite normal for me) but did you say when you develop the image and go to the photo persona you can no longer change anything you did in the Develop Persona. That was the case in the first iteration but in 2 left side of the top ribbon there's a drop-down menu next to "output". You can then choose an option that will let you return and make further edits.

No I think I expressed it badly! I was talking about the Overlays. I can’t see a way to rename them and so it’s impossible to know if you have applied a few corrections, which on is which. So I concluded “Keep it simple” is the best policy with overlays.

Its probably worth mentioning that its better to export the TIFF to AP from PL rather than the DNG. Ive tried exporting the DNG and it makes a mess of things

Yes, good point and a mistake easily made. Thanks for mentioning it. The dng is essentially a RAW file so it won’t carry any corrections you’ve made in PL with it.
