  • Klark Kent revives! Listen to this speedy version of the classic Stewart Copeland Police song 'Does Everyone Stare'. Video is (re-)edited from scenes of his documentary ‘Everyone Stares’. Enjoy!
Copeland worked on the score for his Police documentary, which includes mashups of Police songs, something he calls "derangements." These reworkings had Sting and Summers' blessings. Some quotes from Stewart: “I got the original multi-tracks. I took the vocal from one song and put it on the backing track of another. I had so much fun that I forgot that part of the process was supposed to be getting Andy over to participate in this free-for-all with the old material, and Sting as well. It's still totally the Police, but a refreshed, re-imagined version of it. And before you know it you're at the Sundance Film Festival with a full movie on your name. What made it interesting is that it is not a standard band documentary in MTV style, but filmed from the band itself.”
If you like this derangement, you might also enjoy my remix of the original studio-version, see: • The Police RENEWED - D...

Feels like just yesterday but then you realise it was almost a lifetime ago with Andy now approaching his 80th birthday

@@fyyc In my dream of dreams...but it will never happen. It’s quite a strange situ where the level of work recorded with the police was on another level to anything any of them achieved individually. That includes sting where his time at number 1 in the charts all over the world was reliant on the unique chemistry and energy that came from working with Stewart and Andy. So it’s all a bit bizarre that a songwriter would settle for achieving less than his fullest potential as a musician by choosing to abandon a magic formula. The other irony is that he goes on about not being nostalgic or sentimental - but still chooses to perform the same old police material under the banner of being a solo artiste who finds himself reliant on having to use police material in order to sell tickets as a solo performer. There’s more than a touch of hypocrisy about the situation which I think ultimately comes down to a need to be in complete control - even though it’s at cost to no longer being able to achieve his fullest potential as a musician. I just think he owes it to Andy to give it another go whilst there’s still time but it’s clear at this stage that he’s not going to grab the opportunity whilst Andy is still around to help

@@ImpartiallySpeaking Thanks for your comment, very interesting thoughts! I largely share your considered psychoanalysis, but I try to keep it all a bit more positive. Since Sting keeps shouting that he likes to "surprise people", it is slowly time for the ultimate surprise, which is that he dives into the studio one last time with his old two companions. That would réally surprise the whole world. And that is also the only thing the world is waiting for, because those surprises with lute albums, broadway shows, and even the 'Sting rock variant' were not very appealing and have lost effect. It is therefore time for the ultimate trick of the three gentlemen: the sixth and final Police album! How difficult could it be if they just put the best of everyone's solo material in 'The Police' blender for that? I don't want to bash Sting too much, because eventually he also contributes with his musical genius, and he too is needed to channel Stewart's boundless energy and Andy's virtuosity into an appealing melody line with a recognizable and beautiful voice (have you ever heard Andy or Stewart sing...urgh!) So as long as we can get Andy into the studio alive and well, and Sting really wants to surprise us, this story can have a happy ending. Heads up!

Wasn’t sure what a “derangement” would sound like - was pleasantly surprised to like it! (The video is fun and funny - poor Andy :)

Stewart's inscrutable and 'deranged' approach adds a brilliant dynamic to the song, in my opinion... As always: too fast for Sting probably :-) 🤣
