P20 is more fun to listen to than the MP143 w.silver nozzle. Female vocals: P20. Very similar sounding, but a tinge more forward on the P20. Male vocals/Lower mid instruments: P20. Same deal with the female vocals, and instruments more forward. Treble: P20. More forward and livelier but could be sibilant or spicy for some people. The MP143 is still good as it's smoother but lacks excitement. Bass: P20. More forward... or maybe it seems that way because it has more impact? Sub-bass reaches deeper. *Some* Technicalities that I picked up: Soundstage: P20 is bigger. Imaging: MP143. Because of the more forward presentation of the P20, MP143 wins here as it's smoother and more laid back with a good balance across the frequencies. Micro-detail: P20. Timbre(Subjective): P20. MP143 is too smooth. Extension: P20. P20 is a winner for me in this demo. MP143 is good, but too smooth and safe sounding that it lacks any sort of excitement, even with the silver nozzle which is its treble nozzle. The MP143 with the Pink nozzle would maybe match the P20's bass, but it would need eq in the upper mids to make them less recessed, a bit of eq in the treble to add sparkle, also a bit more in the lower mids for the vocals and instruments. I'm surprised at how good the P20's sound. They sound like a slightly re-tuned and funner version of the MP143, or, the MP143 sound like a re-tuned smoother version of the P20. Both suit different people, different moods.
Balanced & Smooth vs Energetic & Engaging. Can go either way depending on mood. As of this moment, I'm craving for a longer chill sesh so MP143 for me 🙂
