Yesterday was my first day skating in probably 15 years so I'm going down the youtube rabbit hole. I live in Morrisville so I'm glad I stumbled across this video. I'm hoping to meet some of the Raleigh-Durham rollerblading community! Awesome stuff, keep it up!
I'm in Raleigh and really looking forward to getting back into blading after about 15 years as well. I haven't seen many bladers around here in a while, but I did just move back from SF. I've always been a die-hard razors guy. Are there any skate shops that are still walk-in?
Me 2 exactly the same, right down the hole, I'll be 40 in may, just went to the skate park 2 day ago, didn't kill myself, took sum good spills tho, I need new skates asap
I'm waiting for the next generation blank skates with an interesting colorway. Skated nothing but solos for the last 5 years other than a month or so on Thems. I really think RB makes the highest quality skates in the market.
The best part about that skate is that the frame goes into the boot so you can lock topsides better. Gotta do some topside tricks to enjoy that skate 100%
My first aggressive skates were the Rollerblade G back in 97/98ish. Still have em collecting dust in the basement. Skating USD now, but those held up pretty good for a long time.
I had the Chris Edward's Daytona which were like, a blue version of the Dirks. I'm so mad at myself for throwing them away years ago in a fit of anger 😠. I plan on getting back into the sport after a20 year hiatus. Got my eyes on rb pro x right now. Appreciate this vid man!
Agree 100% on the frame length. I bought the frames super cheap of a dude who didn’t like them, the material is fantastic slides nice but as you pointed out just too long to be nice to skate.
handled those 60 flats alot better than i thought you would :D was a big fan of RB back in the day, i had the Daytona and the CI5 but they lost me with the canvas/deluxe they were far to stiff and heavy for me. This is the first RB skate that has had me interested in a very long time i just wish it wasn't a boring full black skate, im hoping after this so called beta period we get more colours like they did with the solo, then they can have all my monies :D great stuff as always law, hoping you had a great xmas and all the best for the new year
I've been feeling bummed about skatong lately because of lack of progress but just listening to the way you talk about skates has me inspired to go for a roll again. Too bad it's 39°C here is South Australia today 🥵
So, looking to many reviews including yours, i finally bought a pair of blank SK. thx for that😆. I was able to get them prety cheap. They have been for sale for 199€. After checking, if i get used to them, becaise im a skater from the late 90s and was still rolling arround with old Salomom STs,i decided to buy a nother pair, because they were still on sale at that time and a new set of wheels would be 120€. Both skates were 43-44 (9½-10). I was happy that the second pair came with the black wheels, but after i checked further, i recognized somthing very odd. So you said that its wiered to have a longer frame then your foot? The first skate has an overall frame length of 285mm. But allthough both shells have the same size, the second pair came with an 315mm frame. I will contact the shop today and want to exchange then
As far as I can remember boxcars came before the tarmacs, after the tarmac series (ce chocolate (brown version), ce trooper (white version)) it was the era of more modern pre ufs daytona boots with a shiny metal cable velcro strap. After that they made the ufs boot called trs access. They milked that design for quite a few years making the skate worse with every new iteration.
I'm a size 12/13. It's hard to find frames that actually fit how I like them to be. The wheels on 270 tend to be covered by my toe and heel and in my preference I don't dig that. It seems that I would love those frames. Buuuuuut, I prefer flat. I guess us big footers are kind of shit outta luck lol.
@@jamesgadd8341 Yeah! So the 60-55-55-60 setup actually has a .5mm rocker. I personally love it. Otherwise you can just use 59mm wheels on the outside. Low ride, 62mm tall I believe. Wheel bite protection is great. Slides fine. Ricardo Lino made a whole video about them if u wanna check them out!
Ouch that box needed some wax haha. Thanks for the review. Have you skated any other brands recently? I've been out of the game for a long time and trying to figure out what all is available for wider feet. Also, why are flats preferred now? Anti-rocker was all the rage, then again the last time I skate my Shima 2s had dropped a couple years prior.
Check out the razors Genesys, great boot for wide feet. I think flat is trendy, some great advantages with the new frames but still love antirocker for me.
@@BacktoBlading Thanks, I'll consider those. How do you feel about the Remz HR2.5? Do you know of any walk-in skate shops in or near the Triangle? It seems everything is straight out of the warehouse nowadays.
Why? It was a TRS Lightning with an ankle strap and a crappy aluminum grind plate. You could buy an ankle strap and turn a regular TRS into a Tarmac. Heavy as hell as well because the mold was slightly thicker than a TRS. It took us years to unload them all at the shop I was at. The K2 Fatty was the first purpose built "aggressive" skate.
@@km666 Why? Because I loved them, that’s why. And they were not the same exact skate as the Lightning. Not only was the boot thicker like you said, but the frame was thicker and more sturdy as well. They Fatty was alright, but the Tarmac CE was absolutely the first aggressive skate ever made.
@@AJ72281 no ....it was not ... it was a thick lighting. The Fatty was the first PURPOSE BUILT aggressive skate. First flat soul. First soft boot aggressive skate. First integrated replaceable h block while still having a flat wheel setup. A much more effective heel retention strap. Rollerblade thickened a TRS and put a flimsy aluminum "grind plate" on a standard but thicker TRS frame. It had no groove nor did it have an H block. If you like them, great. I'm sure you have fantastic memories in them. They were not a very good skate. It was RB trying to cash in with very little investment. They dressed up something they already had and charged 300 bucks for it. Roces did something similar with the original Majestic 12. They made some minor changes to the Moscow, which was their version of the lightning. Same boot mold, slightly beefier and lower frame. Senate wheels. They the Fatty happened. Flat souls took over. Roces makes the 5th Element with a flat soul. What does RB do? They make the Chocolate. Another TRS clone, but this time with a bolt on flat soul plate. Zero design effort. The Paw, a mutated TRS with an integrated cuff.Even the much loved Dirk was a retooled TRS design. The first skate RB got right was the new TRS line. The skins looked great and it finally had, you guessed it, a flat soul with replaceable soul plates. Go figure. Like I said... if you loved the skates, that's great. It just wasn't a great skate.
do you know if these sk blank skates are heavy to the point of not being able to perform the same maneuvers as a lighter skate like usd aeon/sway? Is it quite heavy or not?

I started riding Rollerblade skates back when they only had one skate and you had to cut the brake mount off with a hacksaw. Always been a fan. Have a pair of NJ5's collecting dust because I'm old and scared lol. These skates look really nice. Like REALLY 👍
Your going to swap in 50/50 prime frames, like the rest of us unfortunate basic people that bought the Blanks also are unable to deal with. The skate is great, I have no complaints. However, the BLANK frame is terrible and as soon as I got my pair, I took the frame off for a Ground control frame.
Hey thanks for highlighting my comment. I should say that there is one other complaint that I have, aside from the weight of the skates, but everyone knows about that already. Besides once they are on, you hardly notice the weight. My only other complaint, and it's minor, is that they are probably one of the squeakiest skates that I have ridden. I know a lot of skates out there squeak and make noise, but these are crazy squeaky for some reason. Again though, a minor complaint and doesn't effect the performance. Great skate aside from the frame.
@@espo7182 Yeah you gotta wax the cuff area where it attaches to the boot to get rid of the squeak. However, even with wax on ledges I get that neck cringing squeaky noise if it's a ledge that hasn't been broken in. If only they had soul plates with the same material as the Adapt skates do.
@@AyoMrB I know about the wax trick from other squeaky skates. However on the Blanks, it just doesn't seem to work as well. They are probably the noiseist skates I ever had.
