1982 my friend's were going off the rails.. I was soon to follow, then I bought the never surrender album . I. Still remember getting hope from Triumph, I'll always be grateful for that.
Arena band which was awesome! There are two bands that came from Canada that were badass besides Rush! Thank you Triumph for teaching American bands how to do it! And thank you Rush!
When I was a US Marine during the Cold War, during WestPac's when a fight could break-out at any moment in North Korea along the 38th parallel, I relied on Triumph to keep my head calm. I love you guys! Dave USMC
My uncle is MIA from the Korean War at that parallel .... 1/21/53 Charles Shay... HIs brother my uncle Ed did two tours hand to hand in those mountains... he tried to find hi brother and was arrested after stealing a Jeep to go find him... Uncle Ed came back with a cigar box half full of gold teeth. I’m in tears just thinking about what they went through.. Triumph
Yes, positive attitude in the lyrics, believe in your self, you put your mind to it you can do it. God, I wish there was more of that. ROCK ON TRIUMPH!!
Ive seen them 6 times all from the 80's when they were at the top of there game and when all there hits came out. every time they were LOUD and clear sounded just as good as from the record or better ! yes they Rock and there Concerts are a Blast and always a good time !! Long live rock !
One thing I love about Canadian bands is their work ethic, staying level headed, and determination not to allow Sex and Drugs to take away from their Rock and Roll. BTO and Rush lived pretty clean lifestyles out on the road, too, and they took a lot of flack from fellow bands they toured with who wanted them to party with them, but they understood the way to stay alive as a band was to read good books and get a good night sleep! God bless you Canadians!
Triumph is definitely up there in my all time top 10 favorite bands list. They're the only band that I've ever heard that I think sound better live than in the studio. Their " stages " album is one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life, and one of my all time favorites.
One night I was listening to the local Baltimore rock station playing a show they called midnight metal , all hardcore metal and this song they played was blowing our minds , we didnt know who it was.The song was rock and roll machine, we were guessing motorhead along with many other bands .When they said who it was we were blown away , Triumph ,3 dudes tearing it up .Unbelievable is all we could say.
good story. cool. triumph was my first favourite band and first concert. it was mind blowing in every way Thunder 7 tour with helix opening. check out helix rock you.
I saw them for the first time heading to Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio with The Runaways, someone else I can't remember it was a very good show, see Triumph about 3 times and then Rik Emmett about another three times, the blinding light shows like their favorite
I've always loved RUSH but I like Triumph more for different reasons -- more down to earth. Their music seems more like old school rock, and they have a singing drummer.
Loved Triumph all through my formative years. Saw them the first time on April Fools Day 1983 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Foghat was supposed to open but cancelled so Head East opened. Great show! Their music was powerful and positive which set them apart from other metal.
My first ever rock concert was a Triumph concert back in 1977 at the Ottawa National Arts Center...I was hooked that first night because of the explosiveness of their show. I went to a half-dozen more Triumph concerts, but through the years I learned to appreciate their music not only because of the outstanding quality of their skill as musicians, but for the positive messages of their songs. I know all the words to all their songs and I always sing along as it uplifts my spirits. Since their split in 1989, I went the Rik Emmett way and have been following him ever since. This band has had a great impact on my life through the positive messages in all their songs.
Think I paid 13 dollars and some change to see Triumph headline, with a great laser light show, and an opening band called Foghat. Thanks for the show!!!
I think triumph is more a kick ass Hard Rock band! Rik's soaring voices, guitar skills, and Mikes bass grooves, they are really on point. The drumming is always great too! Gold old fashioned formula for the way Hard Rock should be. I loved seeing the performance they did at the US Festival. One of the best bands at the entire show! Hard to believe that many people and not one problem. Pretty damn awesome. Now if only I could have that Dean Rik played but the Hard Rock owns it now. :-(
I remember when I was a young Rock fan in San Antonio listening to KISS Rock station and the Godfather, Joe Anthony, the radio DJ jamming Triumph on the airwaves. Saw them twice / Great show!!! RIP Joe Anthony
They were one of what I call the nice guy bands, as opposed to all the bad boy bands. They always had an uplifting, inspiring message in their music, like Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Rush, and a few others. Unfortunately when the 80's started really kicking into gear the only new bands promoted by the record companies anymore were mostly the bad boy bands, with songs about nothing but sex, drugs, and rebellion (like the hair metal bands).
I was kinda hoping this would be more of a timeline sort of documentary, it seems all over the place - songs from all eras mixed together .. I'd rather hear about the album's .. etc
I've never heard anyone say that before. I don't hate the disc but I always skip "Rock You Down" and "Long Time Gone". They sound way too much like lost Def Leppard covers
I absolutely hate when people would compare Triumph with rush! 2 lousy things in common; Canadian and power trio.......personally I'd rather listen to Triumph. It's cool that the guys acknowledge rush's influence and contribution to their success.
My biggest problem with a lot of heavy metal bands is not so much they dwell on the occult, as much as it is just BORING to do so! There's only so many songs one can write about Satan, darkness, etc--I mean, it just gets OLD. How about refreshing lyrics for a change? Triumph made music that kicked ass, but their lyrics were different, dealt with real life, and positive
Triumph was a band who maintained a sense of hope in their songs.
I saw them live at a festival in 1984 with many other headliners... I don't remember much. Pretty sure I had a great time.
April Wine is excellent as well.
When I was a US Marine during the Cold War, during WestPac's when a fight could break-out at any moment in North Korea along the 38th parallel, I relied on Triumph to keep my head calm. I love you guys!

David Jones Awesome story !
I was Army behind the Berlin Wall with our Allied Forces when the album Allied Forces came out.
Thank you for your service my brothers. All the best. Mitch

You guys are truly American Heroes and an American Treasure!! Much love and respect!!
Yes, positive attitude in the lyrics, believe in your self, you put your mind to it you can do it. God, I wish there was more of that. ROCK ON TRIUMPH!!
Tears in the rain, one of the many great songs.
Somebody's out there .
Triumph was a relief from all of the egos and attitudes that went with rock at that time. I always liked them.
Ive seen them 6 times all from the 80's when they were at the top of there game and when all there hits came out. every time they were LOUD and clear sounded just as good as from the record or better ! yes they Rock and there Concerts are a Blast and always a good time !! Long live rock !
Its June 2020 and I'm still loving these guys....class acts!!!
Sorely missed these days!!
June 22 and my band covers triumph songs\,,/
I listen to Triumph almost everyday!!! Love this band, love Rik!! What a powerful 3 piece!! ❤️🎶
One thing I love about Canadian bands is their work ethic, staying level headed, and determination not to allow Sex and Drugs to take away from their Rock and Roll. I used to love Triumph's songs🎵, always pure positive, motivation, even before a game in High School and beyond
Even though people called them "heavy metal" I found all of their music very inspirational and upbeat and hopeful..still listening today at 63y.o.
I've never thought of triumph as heavy metal
They were awesome. So underrated
I've never surrendered it's Triumph all the way 🙏🏼😎
1st concert I ever went to was Triumph and Foghat; Foghat was opening! In Dallas 1983 Never Surrender Tour.
Triumph is definitely up there in my all time top 10 favorite bands list. They're the only band that I've ever heard that I think sound better live than in the studio. Their " stages " album is one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life, and one of my all time favorites.
Favorite Band in High School & Jr high/Middle School.. Back when lockers were cool. Lol. Nothing compares to Triumph. Very original.

Sadly, Rik says he is retiring from live performances at the end of 2018.
Rik has the most versatile Throat in Rock , The Trio From Hell ! What a Band Kudo's Wow
I saw them in a club in Toronto doing those exact sets, they were fantastic.
Was it at the old Pickadilly Tube by chance
@@jacksonsoloist YES!
I guess I never really thought about the messages of the songs that much and to me it was just kick ass rock and roll period.
Think I paid 13 dollars and some change to see Triumph headline, with a great laser light show, and an opening band called Foghat. Thanks for the show!!!
Davenport IOWA same tour✌️
Positive vibes, man.
40 years ago, we called it "happy metal"...
Ferreal man. They're like heavy metal paladins.
Epic Metal Was Born 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👑
Share this and all of triumphs songs, the world deserves to now who triumph is.
"Allied Forces" was in my car tape deck for soooooo long
They rocked my socks off on the Thunder Seven tour.
wish for a reunion'
Not going to happen probably ,I have my memories and that's ok.
Yeah, Rush broke ground for Triumph.
"Sport of Kings" - a fuckin masterpiece
Triumph were bluesier than Rush. The guys in Triumph are all humble and j have a greater appreciation for them, thanks to this video.
From the first record : "We've been five years working in a Rock and Roll band. Blasting HEAVY METAL right across the land".
theres nobody like Ric. and all three.
loved it when ric judged guitar warz

Precious.......

RIP Joe Anthony
They should be in the rock n roll hall of fame along with rush

You gsve me magic power
I MISS THIS BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kinda hoping this would be more of a timeline sort of documentary, it seems all over the place - songs from all eras mixed together .. I'd rather hear about the album's .. etc
Both Rush and Triumph rode the coat tails of the Guess Who.
Of who?
@@raysanchez5829 The Guess Who. The band that opened up the American market to Canadian bands. You know, "American Woman", and so on.
3:17 they had there own sound.
Surveillance is my favorite Triumph album GREAT songs
I've never heard anyone say that before. I don't hate the disc but I always skip "Rock You Down" and "Long Time Gone". They sound way too much like lost Def Leppard covers
Gil reminds me pf Tom Shultz from boston.
Must be the "adam's apple" and the shades!
I absolutely hate when people would compare Triumph with rush! 2 lousy things in common; Canadian and power trio.......personally I'd rather listen to Triumph. It's cool that the guys acknowledge rush's influence and contribution to their success.
Best 3 man band out of Canada hands down
Rush? coat tails to ride on "no chance" Triumph had its own vibe completely different.
They are and were better than rush imo.
My biggest problem with a lot of heavy metal bands is not so much they dwell on the occult, as much as it is just BORING to do so! When rock was rock and shit was shit. MTV fucked rock and roll up cause the money fucked them ALL up.
Calling them a metal band is like calling a fast import a muscle car.
Journey, Triumph, Reo Speedwagon, not Maiden, Priest, Ratt, Triumph.
much better than Rush
MUSIC IS NOT A FUCKING CONTEST!!!!
Rush is awesome too
Triumph is watered down rock for those too dumb to understand Peart lyrics.
Comparison to RUSH? Both great 3 pc bands, but Triumph had guys who could actually SING!
Heavy Metal? Nope !
