I am so obsessed with them hahaha! Ashley and Wild Sister definitely did great. They knew I really wanted to find these rocks so they stuck it out with me :)
So happy to see this video! The U.P is one of my favorite places on earth! Glad you found an LSA. If you ever visit again. Check out the rockport quarry in the L.P. and find you a Petoskey stone on lake Michigan or Huron too!
Ran into you along the coast with the gf while we were searching as well. I can say the ones you found look even cooler in person! Great video of your experience. (And those girls deserve a medal for braving the cold with you, it was freezing along Superior that night, haha) Great channel.
It was really great meeting you both! Thanks for remembering to check out my channel :) It was soooooo cold, but totally worth it! How did you end up doing?

If you find out what caused the blue tinge please let us know. Look forward to your next one glad you had a good time in upper Michigan
Thanks much for this. We camp on Lake Superior every year, going up next week. We have found agates, sharks teeth, and even one small inclusion of Silver on a beach downstream from old, abandoned silver mines. This is the first year that we are looking for Yooperlites. As for the weather, my brother-in-law is from Gainesville - I worked building houses in the furnace heat there - in friggin April. I'd rather swim in 50 degree Lake Superior - which we do. Having lived in Georgia for awhile - I much prefer our cooler climate.
I highly recommend it! Make sure you have a good UV light... The one I used is linked in my video description. Most of the lights you can buy online won't work properly, so I suggest grabbing that one!
Had a friend posting about finding yooperlites in the dark after the kids went to school couldn’t figure out what she was looking for, mice? So I googled it and found your post. Thanks. I would never have figured it out. 😊 cool! Amazing
No way! I had only heard of them a couple weeks before went up to Michigan. It was the only thing I could thing about until I finally got there to find them 😂
Awesome video! But it kinda cracks me up that you call your smallest YL tiny! Thats a pretty average size find. Youre other two though are a chefs kiss! And kudos on your LSA!
Just got back from rock hounding in the UP, whitefish point and the mouth of the two hearted river, no luck on the yooperlites, though we were not in the dark when shining them.
I heard they have been found at Whitefish Point, but you definitely have to look at night or else you won't see the glow. Still tons of cool rocks to be found during the day though too!

The yooperlights are so beautiful! I'd be interested to know what makes the one glow blue, also. Thanks for introducing us to these, Kyle, they're awesome!
The one that was shining primarily yellow is an unusual one. They usually show up as that orange you found on the rest of them. ESPECIALLY with that blue fluorescing band going through it. Very facinating specimen you have found. If you go to to AE Seaman Mineral Museum In Houghten/Hancock area, and bring that one in to show them, they'll be more than happy to help you sort it out. The water flowing at Tahquamenon Falls is brown because of the tannin in the water from the leached from the cedar swamps which the river drains.
That's why the rivers here in Florida have that stain too!
These are the coolest. I hope to get to Michigan to look for them some day.

Hey I live in the upper Peninsula! Come back in the winter and I’ll take you mushing (using dogs to pull you on a sled)
Oh man, I am spoiled by the warm Florida winters but that sounds fun hahaha!
How strong of a UV light do you use?
It's a 365 nanometer! There is a link to the exact one I used in my video description.
Did you use a regular UV light?
No. They take a special filtered light. You can order from the guy who discovered them. Erik. Yooperlite.com
How long did it take you to find these??
Not super long! We probably walked about an hour!
@@WILDKYLE Wow.. that's pretty cool!

She has come fossil hunting with me before when she comes to visit Florida!
What beach in the UP did you find them?
Whitefish point, Crisp lighthouse is another good place. Whitefish point is picked over pretty bad. Hard to find them their.
