Bharatanatyam, also spelled Bharathanatyam, is a Classical Dance form of South India, said to have originated in Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu. Bharatanatyam was known as "Daasiyattam" since performed by Devadasis in temples of Tamil Nadu long ago. The name 'Bharatanatyam' is derived from three basic concepts of Bhava, Raga, and Thala. Srekala Bharath, A disciple of renowned Guru K J Sarasa, Srekala Bharath is a passionate dancer, an ingenious choreographer, and an inspirational teacher. Srekala started dancing her way into the hearts and minds of rasikas at the tender age of seven with her inimitable style, nimble footwork, and exquisite abhinaya. Srekala is a dedicated & vibrant performer who’s been performing in the concert circuits of Chennai & other Indian cities. Her acclaimed lecture demonstrations have captured her innovative spirit and unique sense of perspective. Her creative journey as an artiste has taken her through 24 countries spanning 5 continents and staging countless moments of her unique interpretation of the divine art of Bharata Natyam. Srekala has created thematic presentations ranging from traditional classics to modern-day concepts. All of these have received critical acclaim including the Kalaimamani, Tamil Nadu state award, and the Bharata Rathnam from the Government of Sri Lanka.
