  • In this video we attempt to fix a brand new Tower T17039 Air Fryer with a E1 error Code. This has never been used. Let's see if we can work out what is wrong with it and get it cooking/frying again.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

New subscriber here, enjoying the videos.
Just a tip for the future, instead of melting the edges of a broken plastic assembly together, use the 'baking soda and superglue trick'.
If you google 'baking soda and superglue', you will find many examples of its use.
But basically, all you do is sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the crack, then flood the area with thin superglue. This results in a very strong repair.

Only to find out that I just had to tighten up a screw holding down the fan. So when I was putting the air fryer back together, a "EE01" error and a beeping sound came on. Shaking and/or turning food hallf way helps it to all be cooked evenly (the fryer has a reminder for that). It's so much healthier than a deep fryer and much more efficient and faster than an oven.

Oh wow, what a quick fix that was eh, Vince?! Shame about the plastic top that broke, it seemed to break a bit too easy, I suppose it's a bit cheap on the plastic.
Been an owner of a Ninja for about three years now and I have to say, I do nearly every bit of cooking in it. It does take a bit of getting used to because cooking gets done quicker and the instructions for cooking foods on the back of items is for regular gas or electric ovens instead of air fryers. Top tip is take off about 5-8 minutes off the cooking times.
Also worth noting, since the rise of air fryers studies have been carried out around the world about long term health effects of using air fryers improperly.
Studies show that acrylamide (which can lead to cancer) forms when we apply heat over 120°C. Although I've seen other media information that says you should never cook potato products for example over 180°C.
I just cook at 180°C now, to be on the safe side but if my air fryer isn't going to lead me to an early death there are other things with my health that probably will!
    Ahh, such is life!

@10:27 - In the restaurant equipment world we tend to call cookers like this "Impinger" style cooker. It directs airflow in a more concentrated manor to cook food at lightning speed. Lincoln makes inpinger ovens for chain-fed pizza ovens and the like. I always feel like I am busting out some archaic language when I comment on your videos. I've just taken one of these things apart, the top part is held on by slotted clips that fit over a little bar which locks it in place. The only way to release them is by using a hook and lifting the slotted part off the bar. I found an RS soldering tool that has an angled pick one end and a hook on the other works great, it's the first time I've found a use for this tool. It's difficult to explain how to do this without pictures though.

The error code is interesting. When I was fixing photocopiers E001stood for a temperature out of spec error. You had to reset the fault before the machine would start working again.
Those faults would pop up everywhere after the Christmas holidays, because a lot of buildings were not heated and the machine couldn't get up to temperature in the specified time.
And I noticed the manual referenced printers as well, so it seems a universal error code.

    • @graealex
      @graealex Рік тому +2

Well-fixed fryer with cable tuck (in second place to faulty tower). If the plastic is ABS you can also use evo-stik extra strong pvc pipe weld, but with caution as this melts the plastic (experiment first, use sparingly on the joint and on the inside instead of the soldering iron). Superglue fumes can damage electronics and can become brittle after a short time.

The usual instruction for most airfryers is to shake it at half-way point. Some even beeps half-way to remind you. Also, they're advertised as "fry/cook without oil" so there's the health aspect in combination with convenience and saving power. They do work without oil but with a lot of things (including chips) the result is usually a LOT better with a small amount of oil, the main exception is stuff that provides it itself. So, they're really more "fry with a lot LESS oil" but that's not "marketing speak".
When doing frozen chips I use an oil sprayer to spray them with a fine mist, they get more crispy despite using only small amounts of oil, and most of that ends up in the pan underneath anyway. The one I have is the traditional "basket" type which can't have things like rotissery functions but tends to be even more energy efficient.

Air friers are the biggest and probably the most successful remarketing of a kitchen appliance of all time. They are what we used to call convection ovens. You can still buy microwave ovens that are also convection ovens and they do the job just the same if not better (because they have more space)
But yeah. The air fryer is not a new thing. It's just been repackaged and remarketed to huge success. They are a convection oven. So save yourselves kitchen space folks. Just buy a microwave with a convection oven built in.

    • @QuadMochaMatti

The very first microwave that my late parents ever bought in the early '80s was a lovely large cavity, countertop Sharp convection model, complete with a beautiful multicolored VFD display with some pretty cool animated icons for defrosting as well as convection mode. Sadly, it suffered a PSU failure once through a line surge, was repaired, and then experienced another failure. It was a sad day when we took that to the E-Waste collection. All the other microwaves since then have paled in comparison, and being non convection units, have had their painted oven cavities peel and rust out. With a convection unit, you have a far more forgiving and durable stainless steel finish.

I had a business building battery packs, we used hot glue to hold the cells together during assembly. I wouldn't trust hot glue's longevity from my experiences it becomes brittle over time and just falls away. Coincidentally most battery packs use a NTC thermistor for the charging circuits.

I know the struggle taking about an airfryer. I basically did exactly what you did and started from the bottom. Turns out , much like this one, the top bezel unclips. After about half an hour of trying to pull it apart. I found one of the two thermo fuses were blown. Then the struggle continued trying to reassemble it.

Hi, Where are the fuses? Have this air fryer and fan stopped spinning. Can hear a click of the relay but no fan. Wonder if it is a fuse for fan. Thanks

@mrmoo1480 In my case they were attached to top of the metal case above the heating element

NTC mean Negative Temperature Coefficient - meaning that resistance declines as temperature increases. It can be useful to measure temperature, or for example you if you want to limit inrush current (initial current draw of certain devices can be very high for example a large capacitor) PTC or Positive Temperature Coefficient has the opposite effect with temperature, its resistance increases as temperature rises, this can be used as a safety device to stop something drawing too much current if it begins to overheat, like a motor for example

Is that like the start relay on a fridge compressor.

Hi Vince, I'm on my 2nd one of these! They are cheap chinese mass produced rubbish. Mine was breaking just after 12 months, finally died 12 more months later.
Cook the chips in the rotisserie drum, they are fantastic. Eveningly cooked throughout.
Problems start with the rotisserie safety feature, the bar jumps out the socket and stops rotating the food. If you slightly ooen the drum lid it makes it slightly longer so that it doesn't jump out of the socket. Enough waffling, you'll find out soon enough...

Vince you need to move the Air Fryer quite far from the wall to allow hot air to escape from the machine.....there's like an exhaust or air vent at the back of mine anyhow I need to keep clear and away from the wall.

Super glue makes me cringe since finding Mitre Bond. It’s unreal, the strength and the speed it’s sets with the included activator spray is awesome. There is other brands such as screwfix no nonsense which is just as good. Have a try I guarantee you won’t go back to regular superglue.

it's all super glue.. cyanoacrylate.. that activator spray will work on any of it.. that being said the activator is life changing

Hi, do you know why my Tower 17076 only starts when door is open? However no functions can’t be selected as the panel is not responding? So weird! Not sure how to fix it 😩
