This interview has been very compelling. In all honesty, I haven't followed Mencia since his Comedy Central, Mind of Mencia days. I was not aware of the controversy. But, I can tell he has been shaken, and worst of all, he was stripped of his joy. So I pray for him.
I heard he used to help people that were struggling. He bought Bobby Lee a car when Bobby was struggling as a comedian. The people that he helped screwed him over. Instead of gratitude, they turned on him.

Eventually it will be true with plagiarism as well. 6 billion humans, only so many possible combinations of words that make sense to make sentences and paragraphs. Now you narrow it down even further into organization of words to make sentences that not only make sense, but also have to be comedic/funny. (And on top of this usually have to sound somewhat feasible as a story or situation that you had happen to you) You get into rather limited territory.

This is completely a terrible analogy for these reasons: 1. Drake listed Quentin Miller as a co writer. It's literally in the credits of that album. Drake lists the people he collaborates with. 2. Quentin Miller who has been blackballed has denied allegations of him ghostwriting for Drake. He agrees him and Drake cowrote things together. Wouldn't Quentin have said he ghostwrote by now since he's blackballed? 3. Drake has written multiple hit records before Quentin came along.. matter of fact, none of the records Quentin cowrote are not listed in his hits catalog. 4. Ok. As a comedian I've seen both joke stealing and the bumping other comedians first hand. Dave Chappelle went from bumping everyone at my old open mic spot in Oakland. To straight up getting the open mic night canceled due to too many fans showing up putting a strain on the bar staff and comics not being able to perform. And as far as stealing, yeah it's shitty when comics take a long time to perfect their bit only to have someone steal it. But Carlos ain't the only famous joke thief and he won't be the last. If it happened to me personally I can't say I'd be that pissed cause I'm not a one trick pony. I also don't think Carlos should have been canceled like that. Comedy is subjective. Good interview Mr. Vlad. Carlos's take on his experience is pretty honest and reflective of how he would handle things now as an older / wiser fellow. I liked his comparison to the algorithm based on our communities. That's what great about comedy. Comedians are saying everything we are thinking about society but too afraid to say it or deliver the message to where we can stomach reality. When you talk about culture or everyday things it would be hard not to blur the lines of joke stealing. There are Carlos Mencia's and George Lopez's in every Mexican family. There is a Bill Burr in every Irish family. Kevin Heart - same thing. But these guys can just perform at an entirely different level and make us remember & laugh about common events in our family. Guys like Dice, Paul Mooney, Danger Field, Kennison, Red Fox- extreme characters comedy - not for the masses. More for a cult following.

This dude is the victim in every story. How’s he just getting “bullied” and being called out and he has some angelic way to say oh it’s okay man it’s them not me. Ask them not me man. This is completely a terrible analogy for these reasons:
1. Drake listed Quentin Miller as a co writer. It's literally in the credits of that album. Drake lists the people he collaborates with.
2. Quentin Miller who has been blackballed has denied allegations of him ghostwriting for Drake. He agrees him and Drake cowrote things together. Wouldn't Quentin have said he ghostwrote by now since he's blackballed?
3. Drake has written multiple hit records before Quentin came along.. matter of fact, none of the records Quentin cowrote are not listed in his hits catalog.
4. Lastly, Drake has written for half of the industry (Beyonce, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Jamie Foxx and etc)

Love him or hate him he is a great comedian that brought a lot of laughter back to us back in our days. Ok. As a comedian I've seen both joke stealing and the bumping other comedians first hand. Dave Chappelle went from bumping everyone at my old open mic spot in Oakland. To straight up getting the open mic night canceled due to too many fans showing up putting a strain on the bar staff and comics not being able to perform. And as far as stealing, yeah it's shitty when comics take a long time to perfect their bit only to have someone steal it. But Carlos ain't the only famous joke thief and he won't be the last. If it happened to me personally I can't say I'd be that pissed cause I'm not a one trick pony. I also don't think Carlos should have been canceled like that. Comedy is subjective. If you don't like a joke or a comedian. Just don't support them. You don't have to constantly bash them and take away their livelihood

Good interview Mr. Vlad. Carlos's take on his experience is pretty honest and reflective of how he would handle things now as an older / wiser fellow. I liked his comparison to the algorithm based on our communities. That's what great about comedy. Comedians are saying everything we are thinking about society but too afraid to say it or deliver the message to where we can stomach reality. When you talk about culture or everyday things it would be hard not to blur the lines of joke stealing. There are Carlos Mencia's and George Lopez's in every Mexican family. There is a Bill Burr in every Irish family. Kevin Heart - same thing. But these guys can just perform at an entirely different level and make us remember & laugh about common events in our family. Guys like Dice, Paul Mooney, Danger Field, Kennison, Red Fox- extreme characters comedy - not for the masses. More for a cult following.
