If you are funny, you can create any type of joke out of thin air. fluffy for example is right out funny and none of his jokes is similar to anybody. When you have 5-20 jokes that matches with other comedians vs. every comedian out there than that’s a huge problem.

Amy Schumer stole jokes her whole career, people found out, and turned a blind eye proving it's not what you know but who you know.
The only difference there is amy had writers and most of her stealing allegations are from her tv show so its hard to say if she stole or the writers. Comics talk all the time about how their bits end up as episodes or scenes on tv or movies
She did 3 shows with Patrice o Neal, and waited till he died to put his jokes on her special.

Carlos mencia still cannot explain when he went on the Tigerbelly podcast and Bobby Lee openly called him out about how he was stealing jokes from new comedians just getting into the business, and how he stole jokes from Bobby Lee as well. He was a witness. Carlos mencia took Bobby Lee under his wing, so for him to confirm the accusations, says everything, but Carlos continues to dance around the conversation and act like nobody has told him what jokes specifically.

@@netonlinecc Not just true with comedy, but most forms of art, and honestly, true with most things. Eventually it will be true with plagiarism as well. 6 billion humans, only so many possible combinations of words that make sense to make sentences and paragraphs.
Now you narrow it down even further into organization of words to make sentences that not only make sense, but also have to be comedic/funny. (And on top of this usually have to sound somewhat feasible as a story or situation that you had happen to you) You get into rather limited territory.

1. Drake listed Quentin Miller as a co writer. It's literally in the credits of that album. Drake lists the people he collaborates with.
2. Quentin Miller who has been blackballed has denied allegations of him ghostwriting for Drake. He agrees him and Drake cowrote things together. Wouldn't Quentin have said he ghostwrote by now since he's blackballed?
3. Drake has written multiple hit records before Quentin came along.. matter of fact, none of the records Quentin cowrote are not listed in his hits catalog.

Awesome interview!!! Thank god you let Carlos talk and give his thoughts on everything he has gone through. Love him or hate him he is a great comedian that brought a lot of laughter back to us back in our days. Anyone can tell some kind of jokes, but only some can deliver them in a way that will get millions laughing!!! Carlos Mencia is the man when it comes to telling and delivering jokes that will make you laugh!!! Ok. As a comedian I've seen both joke stealing and the bumping other comedians first hand. Dave Chappelle went from bumping everyone at my old open mic spot in Oakland. To straight up getting the open mic night canceled due to too many fans showing up putting a strain on the bar staff and comics not being able to perform. And as far as stealing, yeah it's shitty when comics take a long time to perfect their bit only to have someone steal it. But Carlos ain't the only famous joke thief and he won't be the last. If it happened to me personally I can't say I'd be that pissed cause I'm not a one trick pony. I also don't think Carlos should have been canceled like that. Comedy is subjective. If you don't like a joke or a comedian. Just don't support them. You don't have to constantly bash them and take away their livelihood

Good interview Mr. Vlad. Carlos's take on his experience is pretty honest and reflective of how he would handle things now as an older / wiser fellow. I liked his comparison to the algorithm based on our communities. That's what great about comedy. Comedians are saying everything we are thinking about society but too afraid to say it or deliver the message to where we can stomach reality. When you talk about culture or everyday things it would be hard not to blur the lines of joke stealing. There are Carlos Mencia's and George Lopez's in every Mexican family. There is a Bill Burr in every Irish family. Kevin Heart - same thing. But these guys can just perform at an entirely different level and make us remember & laugh about common events in our family. Guys like Dice, Paul Mooney, Danger Field, Kennison, Red Fox- extreme characters comedy - not for the masses. More for a cult following.

I forgot to mention Katt Williams and Aries Spears. Those guys are unique to me in terms of their delivery. Katt in so intelligent when he is interviewed and speaks about the business. They really should give Aries Spears his own sitcom.
