TY for this one, I have loved this song for most of my life since first hearing it as a young man. To have a dream become reality and then a huge hit must be the perfect song meant to be written. I know what you are saying about the piano being such a beautiful instrument that has a power all of its own to excite sooth or make your soul break. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶
People who play piano at this level never cease to amaze me. As anyone who has tried to learn piano knows, it's not an easy instrument, but to play fluidly and with ease is beyond my comprehension....
Really amazing that he packed such beautiful ideas and imagery into so few words. The woman having so much love for her horse that she would risk her life trying to find him in a blizzard. His faith in the connection with them, knowing that they would come to take him to the afterlife. And much more. And that's just the lyrics.
Hey Guys ! I LOVE your reactions to Michaels songs ! They are so honest and come straight from your hearts . I remember seeing you guys do a reaction one of Michaels other songs and it was AWESOME!!! PS- I am Michaels and our Manager and at 79 years old he still sounds FANTASTIC ! Send me your email guys and I will send you some recent clip . Michael STILL tours / ALOT !!! So get your passport ready and come on over kk
Some more 70's music magic 🎶 🎵 listening 🎶 so beautiful 🎶 listening 🎶 wonderful memories 😅 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary a 70 year old forever hippie✌️ great reaction 👍👍👍 3 thumbs up!
This is such a great song. I remember when I first heard the original version way back in the 70's.and also the first time I heard this version. I couldn't believe how good this version was with the added piano as well as The Rio Grande Band. It was so much fun to listen to this song again and see how much you enjoyed it. They sure as hell don't write wonderful songs like this anymore. Just another heartfelt reaction from the two of you. Well done and thanks. ❤❤
I love the imagery in the lyrics. The story is set in Nebraska, which is flat prairie land. In the first line he says she came down "Yellow Mountain", since no mountains exist in Nebraska the imagery is that of the girl's spirit riding out of the sun setting on the horizon like a yellow mountain. The owl outside his window is a harbinger of an impending death (his own). He imagines the girl's spirit riding Wildfire coming to take him to eternity. Great song!
Your description of this song is by far, and it's not even close, the most logical and believable explanation I've heard yet. I have no idea where you got that information but it doesn't make any difference because that's the explanation of the song I'm going with from now on. It makes the most sense and it really makes me think about the song differently now. Over the years you read what people think the song means and what they think happened and to who. So I'm going with your explanation and that clears up a 45+ year mystery for me. Thanks for that. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Michael Martin Murphy has spent his career creating Cowboy Music. For those of us raised in ranching and agriculture, his authentic Cowboy Music is really refreshing. I have seen him live many times, and each one is a gem.
I had the pleasure of seeing Michael on many occasions he used to have a music festival at Copper Mountain ski resort in Colorado for many years I worked security for a few years when I lived over in Breckinridge when he played in ballroom at the hotel I worked for I got to meet him one of the nicest guys in the industry great reaction guys
Hauntingly beautiful song from the mid-70s. Pretty big it was too. It was hard find anyone who didn't like it. As others have suggested, please check out the studio version. Acoustically, it's even more magical.
I love this beautiful poignant song. It makes me cry everytime-he loves this girl, lives a hard life after losing her, and finally gets to be reunited with her and her beloved Wildfire. The song is so evocative of many things-I’ve never been to Nebraska but I can see and feel that cold night when he’s planting by the moonlight-short growing season, gotta make the most of it. I’m glad they’re finally together and that all of them, including poor Wildfire, can be happy together. This song was huge when I was growing up.
Omigosh this is one of my favorite songs ever. I was about 7 when it came out so I’ve loved it almost my whole life. I highly recommend you listen to the studio version. It’s just perfection.
I would suggest listening to anything from Michael Martin Murphy's Cowboy Songs album. There's some cover songs of classic western songs, and new ones too.
I recall this song vividly when it came out in 1975. I have loved this song from the first time that I heard it. I wanted to say... this live version, in my opinion, is a much nicer version than the original studio version. This version seems to have an extended piano part as well as Michael performing a great guitar solo. Thanks for reacting to this lovely song. Take care...
His wife owned a musicians supply store in Austin Tx in a second floor walkup in an old building on the 'Drag' (Guadalope St) across from the Univ of Tx. I used to hang out there and trade licks with MMMurphey Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Rusty Weir and BW (Buckwheat) Stevenson to name a few. It was a prog country mecca up the back stairs. It was where I made friendships the lasted most of my life. You should give a listen to Buckwheat Stevenson's original song (later covered by Brooks and Dunn) My Maria. I think you will love the song. He unfortunately died from a staph infection after heart surgery in his mid 30's otherwise we would have had many more hits as he was a great writer/singer.
There is an intresting line in the song stating "there's been a hoot owl outside my window now for six nights in a row." The meaning is a sign of guidance and protection. If you hear an owl's call at night, make an ectra effort to be aware of your surrounding. That's how he know she's coming for him.
Hey, you're back in my part of the world in New Mexico, if you ever get to the States, come check us out, This is where Michael Martin Murphy lives. And this is where we have our WESTFEST concerts with him.
When they found her and her horse they were frozen like crystals , this is what i see, and she and wildfire return to her lover in a dream and together they ride once again.
Come with the lady who lost her life looking for her pony says the hoot owl and ride with her to heaven and leave this hard life behind you just lost your crop.
Just one minor thing to point out, every time you start or restart a video Andre says "ready?". This disrupts the flow for me. i'm not sure why it is necessary to ask every time.
I’m 73,and still get choked up listening to music like this, thanks for the play
60 here and i did not even make it to the end of the intro
No matter how many times I listen to this song, it brings tears.
At 69, I’m not far behind you, and it hits my emotions too!
This song always made me cry as a kid. And it still does.
What a fantastic performance done live. This has always been a moving song wrapped in waves of emotions. The piano player nailed it beautifully.
I was gonna say NO DO THE STUDIO VERSION but damn they killed it . ❤

OMG, when this first came out I fell in love with this song. Just the story of the girl running out to try and save her pony and then dying is so sad.
People who play piano at this level never cease to amaze me. As anyone who has tried to learn piano knows, it's not an easy instrument, but to play fluidly and with ease is beyond my comprehension....
No its not easy to play.....But...If I could play the piano like that ...I would be happy till I die...So amazingly *Beautiful!!

The piano introduction is based on a piece, Prelude in D-flat, Op. 11 No. 15, by the Russian classical composer Alexander Scriabin.
Agree…so many classic…TRUE artist in the seventies. No autotune Great singers, songwriter, composer and instrumentalist. Yes……real artist from A toZ.

One of my all time fav's

This song was huge when I was growing up.
i just cant listen to this without losing my self. Cant do it.
This is lovely but I still prefer the simpler more poignant studio version, maybe because it’s the one I have listened to all these decades.
I saw him live on two occasions in the 80s.
I recommend listening to the studio recording of the song. It is very different, and in my opinion, flows better.
awesome song, have loved it from when I was a young man, almost 70 now.... song makes me feel like it did when I was 18.. love it till the end
Still a fave
I was a young teen when this came out and thought it was so sad! But a very haunting song for sure.
This song is indeed🔥 Ive lived in Nebraska my whole life. Kind of makes it extra special. GREAT REACTION!!!
This song always captivates me. I go to another place when I’m listening to it ❤
Beautiful song, the story reminds me of John Denver's "Darcy Farrow".
El Mirage, Arizona USA
I saw this band back in the 1980s on the ellipse in Washington D.C. a great show!
To me it’s a sad song. Beautiful but sad.
Omigosh this is one of my favorite songs ever. I was about 7 when it came out so I’ve loved it almost my whole life. I highly recommend you listen to the studio version. It’s just perfection.
Spectacular!
Love this song- my kids and I used to sing this
Oh how I love this song...thank you Kevin and A & D 💚🎶🎵
If you really like piano try listening to Bruce Hornsby That's the way it is. Great song. Love your reactions!
❤Cook with Fire by Heart is awesome. It's on the Dog and Butterfly LP from 1977.
another great song and reaction ; love Mr. M.M.M.

Or it can be a death omen or so certain cultures believe.
Thank you for explaining 😊

As usual, the studio version is 1000 times better.

He went to school across town from Stevie Ray Vaughn
