  • At The Race Club, we consider that Stroke Rate is one of the keys to improve Backstroke Swim Technique. Even very tall swimmers, such as National Champion Amy Bilquist, featured in this video, and Olympian Matt Grevers must find ways to increase their stroke rates for backstroke swim technique in order to win. In this video, you will learn some of the drills and techniques we used to help Amy and improve her stroke rate, hopefully leading to a faster backstroke swim.

    I watched a slowed video of Ryan Locte doing backstroke and was amazed at how much he rotates.
    I'm able to rotate like that at moderate speed, but at sprint pace I can't rotate as much.
    His arms are bent maybe 60 degrees (?) from the plane of his rotation during pull.
    Adding the rotation eliminated my backstroke shoulder pain and soreness immediately.

      Yes, the rotation is a key part of generating propulsion with the kick and pull. We call those coupling motions. Thanks for watching!

      You must rotate, you wouldn't - accelerate. Rotator cups - mak the rotates -- where es= yes.
      MD fact!

    Trying to add some back stroke to my work outs. Last time I put any effort into it, they were still teaching the straight arm pulls......

      @@theraceclub Yea, the days of belly flop starts in the shallow end and 'oh, you are too young to learn flip turns'.... Does this make me older than you or younger? I turn 69 on Friday... Or would you rather not say..... Johnny Weismiller was one of my child hood heroes...

    Thank you very much. Backstroke is my favorite style, and its curious. Its my fastest style and most of my coach's corrections are in my backstroke, cause I still need some technique improvements. My problem is that i feel i lose a little technique when i try to sprint. Also, my right arm usually lay inside, like going near to my head instead of my shoulder.
    Sorry for my english and greetings from chile
    Pd:Btw, i would love dry land or pool exercises for explosivity, for fast short raíces :)
    Pd2: does height matter? Im 1,72 mts. Im not the skinny and tall type. Im shorter than average swimmer in my club, and im not skinny neither. I have Wide back and hips. Like a not fat-endomorph.

    How does he manage to count 2 different stroke rates on the same length?

    • @theraceclub
      @theraceclub  4 роки тому +3

      We test using 4 strokes to estimate, so we can test a couple of time in a 25.
