  • One week after a devastating car crash, the family of 10-year-old Francine made the courageous decision to donate her organs. On Monday, August 12, Francine’s family and friends joined Valley Children’s doctors and staff in an Honor Walk, lining the halls to the operating room to honor an amazing little girl and her gift of life to six others.

The way the mother kept touching her hands and rubbing them... Made me think of my daughter and how I would probably do the same thing knowing it might be the last time I touch her or feel her here on earth. I could not imagine that pain and anxiety of my child being taken away.

Valley Children's hospital is where I have spent many days with my own children and even now for follow up. I will remember Francine everytime I go there from here on and I will say a prayer that God allow Francine to show her Mama, Papa, siblings and family a little sign that makes them smile and think of her and feel peace in their soul and know that she is with God but always near you too. From one central valley mom, I thank you for your courage to save the lives of other complete strangers so that they don't have to know the heartache that you feel. I too know this heartache as I have lost my baby son (but he was too sick to donate.) My daughter, who is now 30 is still with us because of a family like yours and a child like Francine. It is April 2023, and I am watching your lovely, sweet daughter's Honor Walk. My children are young adults and I do not personally know the anguish of losing one of your children, but oh how it must devastatingly ache. I'm so very proud of your family for your selflessness. I had tears the moment the video began. Francine left a legacy that's as golden as your family's hearts❣

I'm laying here in bed, my 6 year old grandson asleep in between my wife and I. His little hand on my arm and I'm trying not to sob while watching this mother hold her childs hands for the last time. With my own children I've always said time is cruel and it went too fast. Watching this i realize time is a gift and blessing. Something taken from this mother and child. Only now in my older years do I understand enjoying every day. Stop anticipating and waiting for some ideal future. Enjoy now immensely.

As a pediatric ICU nurse I had the privelege of accompanying a child to the OR for procurement of their organs following their brain death & the parent's decision to donate their organs. In 30+ yrs of nursing, it has been, bar none, the most impactful moment of my nursing career. Procuring & packaging of 6 organs in an opportunity to improve & extend the life of 6 individuals. The entire process is so well choreographed from the timing if each surgical crew being present (heart team, lung team, abdomen team), ambulances at the ready transporting each team from the airport to the hospital & remaining at the hospital to return each team with their specific organ back to the airport & their awaiting private plane, to the intra-operative team being ready & prepared for the moment of "no turning back" called cross-clamp. Everything one hears on stories or what-not that the heart is an awesome site, I 10000% DISagree. The LUNGS were the most beautiful awesome site I have EVER seen. The patient's story in itself changed me as a parent due to the events surrounding the death & for THAT alone I understand why our paths intersected. ❤

But the real heroes ARE the family's. Especially if it's your child. Such heartache. But SUCH courage
