Nice observation. However, take note that before karaoke came, Filipinos were already on music mode. Barkadas or group of friends used to sit on a store bench with guitars in hand singing while drinking. Later when the sun goes down they would go to a girlfriend's or any girl's house and serenade her with romantic songs. This practice has lost steam with the advent of karaoke.
Same here, yeah you're right. Long before Spanish era Filipino asked to entertain Spaniards maybe one of the reason we love entertainment dance/sing/drama - history..
Filipinos are naturally of happy disposition. When you sing alone or with the group this shows so much to the extend that the group is contaminated. The barkadas enjoy the laughter. In my case I taught my children how to sing with the karaoke. My eldest can sing the like of Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick and even Eydie Gorme. The family is her avid fan.

Born in the States, I moved to the Philippines in the 60s at age 10 and what astounded me was that at every corner I saw someone strumming a guitar. I was introduced to "Songhits" a chord book published on a regular basis which meant that there was a demand for it. And 6 years later, I picked up a guitar and taught myself how to play.....How? With one of those chord books that had a sheet complete with basic chords. Ariel Urreta introduced the word " -1 " on Philippine TV. He explained it was music minus the voice.....Karaoke today.
I believe they still sell them "Songhits" at ShoeMart Mall when i was in Iloilo on vacation a long time ago. It's not in a magazine format like they used to, but last time i bought 3 of them, they're in a book form, a thick one with all the songs you could imagine, in English and Tagalog. Yup, we Filipinos love music from the Carpenters' Top of the World to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. They were ahead of my time, but even then, as a kid, our neighbors would play songs on a record player (or should i say, phono player? Our neighbors were kinda rich, so they can afford to buy these records!), and through time the songs get stucked in the memory. Now, they're on UA-cam and listening to them, just bring good memories of childhood. Remembering, I see myself passing through their front yard hoping that someone is playing music, and just how many times I have done that! Nope, our water is natural water that God gave us. No artificial. Just listen to him on this video, all good points was already pointed. We dont have vocal coaches, but we can sing nicely and accurately.
Very true, but I think that's part of my second point in discussing the type of songs Filipinos generally choose to sing which are ofter very much "singer's songs" like love songs, epic ballads ...etc.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm pinoy and I've been a successful neighborhood country music bar star for close to 50 years of my 73 years. Thank you again for your wonderful words.
when the video karaoke machines are not made yet Filipinos used guitars and sing a long together almost everyday with family and relatives, they most of the time change the lyrics of the songs to their own dialect and made it fun and nice to hear. Filipinos living in the mountains still doing this jamming even some people in the city. After guitars Filipino used cassettes - side A and B tape to record their voice, they love to play it one more time after singing until the video karaoke machine was made. Now, there are Filipinos who are enjoying singing together using instruments in a band...Like live bands... They play the instruments together and sing like a live band does, but its only for fun, like friends gathering..
I absolutely agree! So much fun living and singing in the Philippines! Yes, we have a karaoke machine at home! Yes, whenever the family is here, we sing. While watching this video, someone down the street was singing karaoke. Also, someone riding by on a motorcycle was singing. That's the Filipino way!
Was raised in NorCal. Mom grew up poor on a farm, but was a concert pianist & violinist that earned a music scholarship to get a nursing degree. Dad was orphaned in the PI in WWII, came to the U.S. and got a business degree with a minor in voice. As kids, we were taught to sing, play piano and wind instruments as early as walking. We were entered in contests and performances all the time. At 60, still singing every chance I get.
also unlike in other countries where people are a bit shy to sing, specially in public since they fear being teased, in the Philippines, whether you have a good voice or even outright tone deaf, you can sing to your heart's content. whether it be in a drunken party singing karaoke at somebody's house, karaoke bars with your friends or co-workers, or even in a public bar or club and singing on stage with a real live band, just go up and people will appreciate your effort. some singers get discovered just singing karaoke in the mall!! music is simply a part of everyday Filipino culture.
Yeah it really is a part of every filipinos life.. Though with a filipino boy with a female voice, well that's a pain in the neck.. people always tease you.... Good thing it changed around 2009 and everybody here is more open minded.. ^_^ If that time was socially accepted back on 2000, I wouldve improved my singing hehehe
rythem n blues You don’t know anything about us Filipinos. And also before you hate and say rubbish things about us, LEARN HOW TO SPELL RIGHT BEFORE YOU COMMENT.
Thanks for the compliment to Filipino singers. Apart from the factors you shared that make Filipinos good in singing, here are my points: 1. Historically we have so much culture because of the “visitors” from different countries - Spain, Dutch, USA, Japan, China, etc. Exposure to their culture helped us adapt to different methods of expression, most especially singing. 2. Filipinos are romantic (which you pointed out too), and to sing songs like those would require a whole voice range compared to fast pop. 3. Most of us live simple lives which will lead us to connect with family and friends more through activities that would have us share our talent. Hence “videoke” in almost any event or celebration is required because it doesn’t have us Filipinos spend too much. Videoke set, food, drinks and friends or family at home - a complete setup. 4. The Filipino language plays a factor too because it is mixed and continues to evolved with other languages. Filipinos have an idea of diction or enunciation that helps the range of how we speak or sing in different languages apart from our own almost clearly. I just wanted to share what I thought, but I truly appreciate your detailed views.👏🏻🇵🇭
Why, cuz Filipinos are emotional people. We sing when we're happy, we sing when we're sad. We sing anthing and we dont stop singing. The best thing about being a Filipino is that you can sing OPM and also English songs cuz you're can speak both languages.
Definitely, I thought of that as well. That's more of a reason why they stand out here on UA-cam as well as internationally because Filipinos sing more fluently in English than most other nationalities (especially in Asia).
because that's not our language. go tell SINGERS in your country to sing Filipino/Tagalog songs. and the thing is MOST FAMOUS SONGS were written in English and MOST FAMOUS SINGERS speaks ENGLISH. thats why filipinos stand out here in youtube and other International Competition because we can speak/understand ENGLISH. do you get my point? for me we are all equal, there is no such thing as only filipinos are best singers in the world.
JE ER Yeah, a lot of us can speak fluent English. Maybe there's been something in our culture after some wars and friendship with the Americans. Yes,I am Filipino!
95% OF PILIPINOS HAVE NO FORMAL SINGING LESSONS OR COACH, WE SING BECAUSE WE LOVE TO SING, THATS IT... WHEN WE HEARD SOMEONE SINGING...IT SINK IN OUR HEART AND MIND SO FAST, SPECIALLY WHEN WE LOVE THE SONG... AND AUTOMATICALLY WE SING AND OWN THE SONG AS IT WAS MADE FOR OUR OWNSELVES...THATS WHY WHEN WE SING , YOU WILL HEAR AND FEEL IT DEEPLY IN YOUR HEART, IT IS OUR WAY TO COMMUNICATE TO ALL HUMAN BEING....WE PILIPINOS ARE BORN SINGER...
WE SING? YOU SING? 95% HAVE NO FORMAL TRAINING, THAT IS WHY 95% OF FILIPINO CANNOT SING... LOTS CAN SING,, BUT NOT ALL,,, TELL ONLY THE TRUTH.,, WHAT ABOUT YOU? CAN YOU SING? I AM SURE ,, YOU CANNOT SING!!
@@prophettruth1923 Salty much? Are you sad because you can't sing as good as us Filipinos? 99% of your country's people use autotune bc of insecurities. Our country uses natural beauty. Plus, I can sing great (according to everyone I know). Do research first.
All points considered.... i think you hit the nail on the head. I grew up in Philippines until 14, so these are my personal memories of how it was. Its fair to say, you're not a Filipino unless you havent done karaoke. But i think its just part of everyday Filipino life to sing. Biirthdays, funerals, shopping malls, clubs even beach resorts and everywhere in phils have karaokes everywhere. Singing is always encouraged and seen very positively. Imagine living in a country where everytime you turn on the television; most likely there is someone singing.
I totally agree with what you said about Filipinos like to sing 80's or 90's songs. If there's a party, it is important to have a karaoke for bonding. If they get drunk, they will usually sing slow rock musics like Scorpions, Bon Jovi or Guns n roses. Haha.. i dont think someone ever tried to sing one of Bon Jovi's songs in the singing contest, is it?
Filipinos are not only gifted with talents in singing and dancing. They are also great imitators and impersonators. Its not to surprising to see kids singing difficult songs of Streisand, Whitney and other great singers. They can learn and sing songs of these artists by merely listening. I think many Filipinos are born with talent.
Rah rah-If you think your descendants are WAY better than us,believe that. The guy who made this video is not Filipino so I'm sure he's not bias. You bet I'm laughing at you.
Foreigners: filipinos are the best singer, But here in the philippines, when you sing they will shout and say: “Uulan na naman" ; “The Typhoon is coming" 😂
David DiMuzio It was funny that you are comparing Filipinos with other Asians. Philippines was colonized by the Portuguese for almost 500 years sure they sang way better than most Asians coz that is the only way to make a living. Try not to be a bias
Great insight. #2 makes the most sense. Filipinos are just naturally very good at adaptation and emulation. When Filipinos settle in a different country, they never really have a hard time settling in because they quickly adapt to the culture, language, mannerisms and demeanors of the locals. You will rarely find a Filipino living overseas who does not speak the foreign language -- we are really good at adapting to new environments.
Had to clap when you said Karaoke, David...it's definitely true. While I don't have a karaoke machine or magic mic myself, my parents have one, and my sisters grew up using it and selecting tagalog songs from it for performances, and stuff... I just sing along to karaoke videos on youtube, lolz...especially the tagalog ones
Even though Im not a good singer,Im a filipino and im proud of it.Hearing or watching other countries reacting on us feels so good,My heart just literally melt.We may not have the rich and well improved economy but the soul in us being a filipino makes us stand out.
Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Mishovy Silenosti must be destroyed HA! ME DUMB? How about you read your sentiment again? Get your grammars right dumbshit!
Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Mishovy Silenosti must be destroyed not all Filipinos are dumb. And don't blame the country, blame the government. Don't disrespect anime too. You don't see us anime lovers disrespecting your likes right? Then why don't you do the same. And it's so unprofessional to say that Filipinos are uneducated. There is a lot of technology in the Philippines. There are many scientists in the Philippines that invented things. You saying that the Philippines is uneducated is making me believe that YOU are the one who is uneducated.
Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Mishovy Silenosti must be destroyed not product it's actually the incubator. And there's a scientist who discovered a planet orbiting near Earth. She named it Planet Biyo.
To add as part of culture, I rarely hear in Tagalog "I can't sing." It's usually "I'm not good." Slight change in wording but drastic in mindset! One suggests that there are people who do not have the ability to sing AT ALL. The other suggests that everyone can sing, but some are just better at it!
Singing is our way of life! "Music is the medicine of my soul" + Master RBE Jr. Singing relieves stress and neutralizes negative energies! Music is our way of expression!
And this video proves why David is the best UA-camr in the world Edit: Also becuz we can hit high notes 🎶 without vocal lessons Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭 💝💕❤️

I remember when a joined a kik groupchat full of foreigners. They asked me "Where are u from?" i said "The Philippines" and one of em asked me this "Can u sing?" when i told him that i can he was just like "I knew it, cuz you're a Filipino " 😂 and yup i was born year 2000, but my playlist is all music from the 80's and 70's 😂
I was born 1981, 35. Though my playlist is versatile, I am more on 70s and the 80s, part 90s. James Ingram, Barry Manilow, David Gates. I think It's because of the professional mix esp 80s. When you are to listen with headphones, you will really hear and feel the surround and proper panning and positioning of instruments and vocals. 2000 have hightech recording studios with all those computers. But 70s and 80s are perfectly engineered music recording.
D Nocturnal dont be embarrassed songs in the 1980s and 1970s is better than the crappy hip hop songs they have and african americans broke the music history because of theyre raps it caused so much attention back then. It wasnt that bad as it is now
I'm Jonathan a 19 year old kid from INDIA and I love 70s 80s & 90s pop and rock songs .... My friends consider me to be an outdated old guy who loves the 80s and 90s and think that I'm not cool.... But doesn't it matter to me because I only appreciate real quality Music not like these recent Autotuned songs ones Greetings from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Not only are Philippines the best singers, but they are passionate about everything they do - I love the culture and hospitality! Love from Central California 😍
I agree with you. I hate it when people say that just because someone is a Filipino, they're automatically good at singing. It IS a practiced, nurtured and consistent thing. As a person who was constantly pushed by the family to sing during karaoke nights or to give a number during parties, I grew to love singing. And it's true for some that the songs most of us are encouraged to sing are those that require really good vocals. Most of them are "birit" songs, ones that reach high notes to the point that you might ruin your vocal chords trying to reach it or ones that are stretched for more than a few seconds you'll lose your breath. I grew up with songs from Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Regine Velasquez, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and the like and, although I can't match their singing prowess, it shaped how I like my songs and how I sing. I'm just not as attuned to pop music as I am singing Because You Loved Me or I Have Nothing. Thanks for not going with the Filipino stereotype of us being good singers just because of our ethnicity.
Tara me as a Filipino..my family didn't push me to sing high or low I just realized that I'm good in singing...my teachers always wanted me to sing in front of them but I can't cause I'm shy type of person
Hope you'll share on FB/Twitter if you agree. I think it's time we put more thought into people's talent and appreciate it from where it really comes from which is culture, support, and hard work and not just a stroke of DNA luck.
One more thing is the pressure,,, When you're a Filipino and you can sing, dont just be a good singer, you have to be GREAT because no one will recognize you if you only have a talent and not the skills.
On-point! I am a filipino and i started to sound so off-tune when I was young but I do karaoke at night at home almost 3x a week and now, im actually improving. Hahaha. Most Filipino singers, never had formal training but they are great singers.
You're RIGHT !! .... Philippines have more than 100+ choirs ..... 👍👍✔ Singing is part of Filipino Culture ... Filipinos are GREAT SINGERS for example ?? Lea Salonga who's the voice who sang Reflection in the movie Mulan , Janella Salvador who sang How far I'll go in the movie MOANA , Rachel Ann Go who's now part of the Les Miserable the Musical , and many more
It's true, Filipinos are music lover. As Filipino, music becomes part of our culture, it helps us relief our stress especially when we sing we feel we release our emotions and depressions. When we are depress the more we become passionate to feel the song we sing, and every lyrics or messages of the songs hit our emotions and that's how it help our emotions to release through the song we sing. That's why some singers when they sing, you can feel their emotions through their songs, their songs approach your heart and you can also feel their emotions through their songs. And even in history way back decades ago, if you just know the old part of our history called "Harana", it is one of the proof that Filipinos really loves music. By the way, sorry for my bad english grammar, LOL ^_^

You’re right. Filipino really sings well even people on the streets they have great voice. I want to drink their water 😂 love from thailand
Nope, our water is natural water that God gave us. No artificial. Just listen to him on this video, all good points was already pointed. We dont have vocal coaches, but we can sing nicely and accurately.
Love Thailand from Philippines!
I want to go to Thailand 😭but I don't have money 😂 maybe some day 🤣love from the Philippines😘

@@johnmarkpahuyo8505 she's joking about the water thingy, dumdum..
You forgot to mention that Filipinos are connected with their emotions and are very sentimental people 😁
Very true, but I think that's part of my second point in discussing the type of songs Filipinos generally choose to sing which are ofter very much "singer's songs" like love songs, epic ballads ...etc.
David DiMuzio hahaha so true the ballad and love songs....!

when the video karaoke machines are not made yet Filipinos used guitars and sing a long together almost everyday with family and relatives, they most of the time change the lyrics of the songs to their own dialect and made it fun and nice to hear.
In PH if there is no teacher in the classroom the whole class would just sing as a whole

That is so true....

I sing in Smule and even share it publicly in Faceook. And I am the blacksheep of my singing family. haha!

That's a very in depth observation and very factual!
On point observations.
Thanks for the compliment to Filipino singers. Apart from the factors you shared that make Filipinos good in singing, here are my points:
😥
I am a filipino,,all you said is 100percent correct
You truly gave your heart to filipino.. Wish you become an actor someday.!
another reason is filipinos can understand/speak english fluently in neutral accent.
Definitely, I thought of that as well. That's more of a reason why they stand out here on UA-cam as well as internationally because Filipinos sing more fluently in English than most other nationalities (especially in Asia).
JE ER filipinos are excellent when it comes to Adaptation. ;)
because that's not our language. go tell SINGERS in your country to sing Filipino/Tagalog songs. and the thing is MOST FAMOUS SONGS were written in English and MOST FAMOUS SINGERS speaks ENGLISH. thats why filipinos stand out here in youtube and other International Competition because we can speak/understand ENGLISH. do you get my point? for me we are all equal, there is no such thing as only filipinos are best singers in the world.
ok dude i surrender u won. hands up.
JE ER
Yeah, a lot of us can speak fluent English.

All Of The Words You've just Said was All True, Thanks David😀😀
That's true I'm American and I live in the Philippines I'm filam there awesome
Caroline Bantolinao thanks u like Philippines. Cust im one
Thank you so much im filipino
They are great imitators alright and great LIARS.

The love for music is in the blood of Filipino's and thats the secret.

But doesn't it matter to me because I only appreciate real quality Music not like these recent Autotuned songs ones
Greetings from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

Lol ok
So you considered yourself as kid in age 19
You're welcome. Thanks for the thoughtful comment :)
I pushed my daughters to practice to sing when they were younger
Tara me as a Filipino..my family didn't push me to sing high or low I just realized that I'm good in singing...my teachers always wanted me to sing in front of them but I can't cause I'm shy type of person

First thing i do when i wake up in the morning is turn on the radio.

One more thing is the pressure,,,
When you're a Filipino and you can sing, dont just be a good singer, you have to be GREAT because no one will recognize you if you only have a talent and not the skills.
On-point! I am a filipino and i started to sound so off-tune when I was young but I do karaoke at night at home almost 3x a week and now, im actually improving. Hahaha. Most Filipino singers, never had formal training but they are great singers.
