Almost the same exact tempo as the original...not sure what you are referring to when you say "if a little slower". I just have to disagree with the way you state "he makes a great effort" and "sounds great in his own way" Gary Nichols is a great addition to The Steeldrivers and they were lucky to be able to recruit him...I think every band member would agree. Different then Chris yes, better or worse...no way, both have a great voice.
