- Many ask this question: Why can't we just put solar panels on an electric car? We could, but the result isn't very efficient, as we discussed when talking about why an electric car can't power itself. Basically, the issue is aerodynamics, weight, cost, and the smallness of the benefit. Another related question is, how many solar panels does it take to power an electric car? Can we build a trailer to haul those panels around?

I've installed one 80W solar panel on the roof with a separate 40AmpHr battery. It powers my dashcam, rear view camera, music system, DC fan, LED lights, car inverter, mobile chargers. Few hours under sun is enough to top up my battery.

I drive 2-3 times a week, 20-40 km. My EV has a 20kWh battery, so 300W on the roof would be enough most of the year to never need plugging in. Solar panels are feasible for small city cars.

Good analysis .. but we can install the solar panel at our residence . The solar panel produces electricity and that can be sold to Discum. Or that produced energy van be used to charge the car to some extent . Remaining charging can be done using the power supply

Something wrong said, 1) when we park our car for the whole day,the panel can charge the battery enough.2) when there's an emergency to go a bit far than planned, this panel gives that extra strech.3) There's no need to place panels as shown, Only over the top can also provide some extra juice.4) Battery's costs in india is still high, and this panel can charge so that atleast the trip is covered one way.5) if we can cover all metal parts then the car van reach home with low battery too..Try to add frugal brainstorming into what can be done.

India is second in renewable energy production but that still is 1/8th of entire energy production.

You spoke on all negative points but we have seen cars that have been demonstrated with solar panel integration and yet the car was awesome. Normally its not feasible but isn't it possible to make one.

Yes, ho shakta hain, par generated energy itni nahi hogi ki vo kar Ki range main koi jyada bada difference add kar paye.
Tesla uses regenerated breaking system, i.e. jab bhi aap break lagaoge, ya to dhalan pe ho jaha pe energy ki jarurat nahi he, generated energy vapas battery main Chali jayegi. I.e. Agar dhalan utarne se pehle car ki range 200 km hain to dhalan utarne ke Baad vo 210 km dikha shakti hain.
