    Thank you for this great idea. I left the 1.22 k resistor in place. The charge current was 0.8 Ampere, which the battery should be able to handle fine. Also, I used epoxy to make a backstop for the PCB so it would not slide back over time when the charge cord is plugged in.

    Wau man, I remember, when we talked about this a while back. And as I see, we bought same unprotected boards, both. Just yesterday I made my second battery, and this time with protected board. But I have to tell, that light "pipe" you made is awesome. I just turn the board and made two holes on back, and separate LEDs by using Sugru. I will put photos on my GooglePlus page, check 'em out, if you want..

      Yes haha! Nice how we can help each other with new ideas. I saw some of your pictures. I like the key's you glued in to weight it down ;)

    • @maniacse
      @maniacse 8 років тому +1

      Yes, that one. It was made for my friend, he wants to use it both in car and home, but do not want to rework battery as I did. I tought it is too light for car use, so only thing came under my hand was set of old keys. Since then I use 'em as weight also for my soldering iron stand..

      Nice! You also have a nice Car, The Opel Frontera. I drove and maintained them a lot at work

      Dont even talk about that car.. It is for sale. It is beautiful piece, but I have big trouble with that 2.5TDS VM engine. I invest so much money and effort to that engine, and it still doesnt run good. I have enough. Hopefully somebody with passion in cars will buy it and make run again.

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  8 років тому

      Haha the car is ok But those VM engines are known for troubles. In the Netherlands they all came with the 2.2DTi engine. They are ok. I hope someone will buy it from you!

    Is it practicle to have one charge controller feeding the one on the battery? Wouldnt you just need to pass throuogh the usb power to the back of the leads that have already been provided?

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  Рік тому

      There is no charge controller in the batteries. Just the cell protection pcb.

    Se vai direttamente con il + e - della micro usb sul caricatore originale, mantieni tutte e due le possibilità di ricarica. Io l'ho fatto, il risultato è poterla usare anche con l'alimentazione 220 - 12. -5 volts

    just a question doesnt it produce heat? like right next to the battery?? is that a good idea?

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  6 років тому

      Its not producing any heat. When you touch the chip you feel it is slightly warmer then ambient. No problem.

    • @laagvliegerv6

      +Sir CyFus I Didn't check the output. The datasheet of the charge controller IC contains a list of resistor values for the PROG pin on the IC with their current settings.

    That's going to let a lot of damp into the battery with all the resulting corrosion.

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  10 місяців тому

      We are now 8 years later. Radio is used in a workshop. Cold at winter hot in the summer and wet when raining....the Radio and battery still no corrosion and just working fine. Battery has lost some capacity over the years and the Radio itself has a noisy scratchy volume knop potentiometer. So the damp story is a bit BS. The original battery isn't sealed very wel neither.

    • @udhi_gn3893

      What corrosion? I had a roughly similar tp4056 usb charging mod on my 888s and it's going for 6 years now and guess what, no corrosion. You're outvoted! 2 to 1! This kind of mod is no big deal unless the humidity is 100% all day or you're swim a lot with it.

  • @toddhayslett8269

  • @abcdefg3386
    @abcdefg3386 8 років тому

    Is this the original battery or did you change it to a smaller one, so you could fit the pcb inside?

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  8 років тому +1

      This is the original battery! There is plenty of room inside the case.

    • @maniacse
      @maniacse 8 років тому

      my second one (not sure, if it was from 777 or 888 model) was even smaller (yeah, thicker but shorter, so I use battery itself like board support when pluging USB plug in)

  • @TheOklep
    @TheOklep 8 років тому

    Hello.
    Does it have also some overcharging protection, so it will not damage the battery?
    Nice work otherwise

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  8 років тому

      +TheOklep Yes it does. It has a Li-ion charge controller chip on the PCB. It's the TP4056 IC which controls the charging proces.

    • @maniacse
      @maniacse 8 років тому

      in fact, board you use is not overcharge/over discharge protected. It is just, as you wrote, charging controller chip. But there is new board style available with both protections.

    • @laagvliegerv6
      @laagvliegerv6  8 років тому +2

      You got two things mixed up. The Charge controller chip (TP4056) regulaytes the charging proces. So the starting end stopping of the charge when the right voltage is reached, The protection IC's are just short circuit and overload protection IC's and a very crued charge cutoff. They are important BUT!! the Baofeng battery's already have them inside the battery. You can see it when you peel away the capton tape. There is a little PCB with exactly the IC's that are on the charge board you have. When ordering Lithium cells you can choose them order them with or without protection. Baofeng did the right thing and ordered them with protection,

      Ha! Dat is niet zo moeilijk. Ze zitten gewoon in elkaar geklikt met een beetje lijm ertussen. Dus met een dun schroevedraaiertje of een mesje kom je een heel eind. Ik heb het gedaan met zo'n metalen spreider/spudger/prytool. 73s!
      *That's not that difficult, The battery is just snapped together with a tiny amount of glue between. So with a small screwdriver or knife you its easy to open. I did it with a metal spudger/prytool. 73s!*
