seeing as this motor gave me some trouble. I decided to simplify it by doing some mods and much needed maintenance.
Couple of things I forgot to mention?
1st, it had some water in it BUT that got in there cos I accidentally submerged the top end in water and it got in through the top of shaft.
2nd, I originally lubricated the springs etc with standard grease rather than ( plumbing grease) which over time worked its way to the commutator causing it to lose contact with the brushes. So use a grease that won't melt with too much heat. And use it sparingly.
NOTE: since this video I've completed repairs. I could only find a 20 amp on off switch .I got 6mm cable.
It now works terrific again 😀
I put head back to original position with torpedo and handle facing forward.
I had reversed the head at one point cos I tried using motor in front of me. This just interfered with my paddling stroke.

That's awesome, I'm glad its back up and running. If the world had more people like you there would be a lot less waste, I imagine 99.9% of people in that position would have just tossed it out and got a new one.

Another excellent how to video. Thank you. We’ve got two 24lb water snakes. We’ve had them for over two years and only ever used them in salt water. They would have a few hours up on them now. I was having problems with one and came across your other video and thought I must have the same problem with water ingress . I pulled them both apart and not a drop of water had got inside. I never stripped it down as far as you did because it wasn’t necessary so I can’t tell you if they have changed the prop shaft seal or not. My problem was corrosion in one of the waterproof connectors from the battery to the PWM.
Again thank you for giving me the confidence to pull it down and what to look for.
    Cheers
