Thank you for sharing this beautiful mele. I am a native of Guam (a Chamorro), and like our Hawaiian and other Pacific island brothers and sisters, we too, are in a fight for our true independence and return of our motherland's dignity. Thank you for doing what you do for your people - there is no struggle much like that of the indigenous who have to fight for what is rightfully theirs and their ancestors.
There seems to be a misunderstanding. I am not Hawai'ian. But my wife and I come to Hawai'i to swim in the wonderful Hawai'ian culture and traditions, and don't want to change a thing. "...the indigenous who have to fight what is rightfully theirs and their ancestors." ??? The distance between Chicago and Hanalei is much further than 4,200 miles. In comparison to Hawai'i, Chicago might as well be on the dark side of the moon. Hawai'ians, keep doing what you're doing. Do it more. Further embrace your ancestry. No one wants you to change except, perhaps, to further appreciate what you've got.
@@carlmunson9160 Not sure what the misunderstanding is? I never directed any comment toward you and my comments were in support and in solidarity with the Hawaiian people.
This song has a beautiful melody, and even though I am not Hawaiian, I am Korean-American. As a Korean-American, we went through so many hardships like Hawaiians. My second homeland korea was taken over by the Japanese, as the same for Hawaii front the U.S. and Japanese bombing and control in WW2. Let there be peace in the Pacific islands and nations, and together we are one. ❤️❤️
Awe such a beautiful mele/oli. The young man holding the flag at 3:08, I can feel his overwhelming emotion. Itʻs like heʻs holding his tears in. He may just be nervous but Iʻll say he felt the mana. So proud of these young kanaka - our next generation. Imua!

Tu’u = stand (Tongan)
Lā = sun (Hawaiian)
Lā = sun (Samoan)
La’a = sun (Tongan)
When i hear some Tongans say these words it doesn’t sound like there’s an okina in there. It honestly sounds like the kahako
