I want to be able to go into a portrait without overthinking. Sometimes I talk myself out of painting because I lose confidence. I'm trying to change my mindset by thinking about each painting as practice and it really isn't as big of a deal as I make it out to be 😂
Patience is a challenge. I over think my painting just like the person earlier commented n can talk myself out of painting at all but can also spend too much time on one painting. Getting the initial shape of the head just right is hard too.
I love this sort of video. Having watched every one of your UA-cam videos by now (as far as I know), I feel I've reached the point where I now know the majority of the basics that you're teaching, and most of your new content is now reinforcement. But nothing quite beats walking the walk, and seeing you do that in this video is very helpful - and inspiring, as always. I'm not sure who the best oil painters on UA-cam are, but I do know who the best teacher is and it's definitely you.
I love it when you do these live painting demos! Please do more! I long for the day when I can paint a portrait as quickly as you! 😊 Great job! Thanks.
This type of video is sooooo helpful for me, watching your process throughout while you explain your thought process is amazing. I would definitely love more of this form of video! Especially with portraits :) you are so talented!
@@paintcoach I agree with the person above, please more of these studies! I learnt so much in these few minutes! And not only portraits, even landscapes or animals or still life would be so helpful!
Happy Festivus! Just finished watching a Seinfeld holiday episode a couple minutes ago, and a Costanza painting is just what I needed to see today! Wishing you the best!
Yes I definitely like this kind of video and watching you paint in real time. Would be interested in watching you fine tune the features as well! Thanks for your videos!
I enjoy this kind of video. Sometimes i want to just break out a canvas and paint along with you for a practice study also. I think it makes more sense than just watching the video. It helps me see the process alot clearer. Thanks for all your inspiration!
Enjoyed this video. Even though I've watched a lot of your videos. Seeing you go through the motions in real time demystifies the process, like you said. Not to mention it's relaxing watching people paint. I'll be checking out your Patreon for sure if there's more of this.
Really enjoy these lessons ---- like to watch the techniques artist use to develop the painting. Please more of these demonstrations. Thanks so much Chris!
Yes! I love watching this type of video - it’s not at all boring! After finding you on UA-cam, I joined paint week and attempted it with watercolour, but just got my first set of water mixable oils and am so excited to try this different medium
Definitely start doing these , I enjoy and learn from these demos. The last one you did gave me breakthroughs on this grey scale Batman study on simplifying shapes and punching in correct values to communicate things
After purchasing Chris's Portrait Painting Course, I find to get the most out of his lessons is to paint two portraits at the same time following the same lesson. One portrait I paint is one of Chris's sample portraits in his course and the other portrait is one that I have chosen - my dad. I go step by step, working on both portraits at the same time. I have just started and already, my dad's portrait looks like my dad! I have also bought his Drawing and his Landscapes courses. I have never seen myself progress as fast I have with his courses. And believe me, I really regret buying other courses online as they were not anywhere as clear as his.
Hi Coach, I just got some water mixable oil paints and when I finished my first attempt, I poured the cup of water I had rinsed the brushes with down the sink drain. Then I realized that might be a bad idea. What should I have done instead?
You mention the cut out filter to simplify values in your tutorials. How do you get it to work the way you want to? Because it shows differently than what you show?
Just started following you and taking notes. Why are you using black paint? Why aren't you using complimentary colors for a darkened effect as you stressed in a 2 yr old video I just viewed?
If you could one aspect of your portrait painting what would it be?

My edges move around so much, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. Need to get a grip on it so it's always only for the better.
I need to handle my values better. I love the real-time video, by the way. More! More!
Hey I got a question, what do you use to keep your painting at like shoulder/arm height, cause it doesn’t really lookalike an easel to me?

Being a person who learns through visual means, these type of videos I love. I always end up learning something new.

Definitely one of my favorite shows. It’s such a classic 😂
George is getting suspicious! Good work coach
I really appreciate seeing your process of adjusting as you paint!
I’m glad you found it interesting!
The thing i loved the most was when you were like "I messed that up." As I've been messing up my painting for the last 3 hours, I feel a lot better 😂
Great video and YES to more. Made me feel like I was sitting next to you watching.
I would love to see more of these longer form studies from you!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to do more videos like this in the future.
Enjoying this session. I’m up for more of the same

That's awesome, you're gonna love oils!
Definitely like long form video showing the development of the forms and hues...thanks
Thanks for sharing; really enjoyed watching you build the form and mixing the colors
I do love this style of video. It really gives good insight into your process. It's also just relaxing to watch. Please make more! :)
I'll try to make more videos in this style!

Thank you for these videos. I’m just starting to learn to paint, and your videos help immensely!
This is very useful to see a painting in realtime
Always a pleasure to watch you paint! Thank you!
My pleasure 😊
@@paintcoachAlso - forgot to mention - I love that you've added a frame of your face so we can see you whilst you paint. Great addition!
So enjoy longer videos. Thank you
I appreciate that! I’m glad you enjoy them.
I like it, you do learn by watching. Thank you!

Me gusta la pincelada que das a la pintura.
Please do an Elaine portrait study from Seinfeld!
Dude, what’s your camera arm setup? Did you buy it and from where!
Lot to unpack but I will quickly say this confirmed my suspicion to do glasses last
Impressive❤🎉🎉
GOD I LOVE YOU
