Ozil has the record for the most chances created in a PL season AND had 19 assists (2nd best all time) with Giroud in front of him. Not Haaland, Aguero or Henry.
That so true😂.
Walcott played upfront for like the first three months of that season
you saying it like Giroud is bad, he is one of the best Target man in history, he was key player for France to won the WC 2018

Ozil when he had Alexis linking together was just beautiful. Couldnt believe what i was watching. Them 2 in our current side, we'd win it all year in year out
no he's not, this Arsenal squad always press high and every single player work their azzes to get the ball back and attack, Ozil will hold them back
With a healthy cazorla it was beutiful
With Alexis yea. We all praise Odeegard now for the work that some of you said Ozil didn't have to do, but if Odeegard weren't doing it we'd be worse off, so how would we then win it all?
won nothing of note.
Mesut ozil was a generational talent. Make no mistake about that. Magical footballer.
His 3 yrs at madrid and his first 3 yrs at arsenal were great...after that he didn't seem interested anymore
That’s 6 years at top flight you bum you couldn’t do 6 seconds … not to mention he won best German player of the year majority of time for that “golden generation”

Micah Richards is speaking pure facts. Shearer speaking out of old school English mentality ignorance
shearer can't even try to understand something different to his own opinion.
Deluded, if you don't show emotion they think you don't care. These guys don't seem to understand that not everyone is the same
Shearer is being typical English player. Arrogant and ignorant
Shearer has become one of the worst pundits. Yeah, he was a great goalscorer who won 1x prem and did F all in his whole career.
Meanwhile, Ozil won a World Cup, La Liga, German, Spanish (cups) and 4x FA Cups.
Shearer’s ignorance with his big ego isn’t even backed up by facts. Not Ozil’s fault that he played in a crap Arsenal side. He went for money (simply as) and just fell out of love with the game. It still doesn’t change what a talent and what Ozil achieved in his career.
he's not necessarily wrong
they're just talking past each other by having other emphasis
Richards talks about pure talent and the beauty of it
Shearer about the consistent application of that talent
he's also talking as a different kind of football fan than Richards
for some people, it (seeming like they don't give a damn while being paid ungodly amounts of money) just destroys the estimation of a footballer
He was the last of the pure number 10s and was the best number 10 in the world for a good 5 or so years. His vision and ability to weight a pass was unrivalled. The games changed since his time though, Ødegaard is what the evolution of the position looks like. Maybe not as beautiful to watch but certainly more effective in todays football.
I liked what mourinho said about ozil...if you close your eyes ozil had a style of play that you would know he's on the ball without even watching him
I think Ødegaards finesse will only continue to evolve. He already has some stunning plays - Özil just happened to produce them all the time.
You say that but his contemporaries adapted and continued playing, some still at the highest level.
A professor once said: if you don’t like Ozil, you don’t like football. And i 💯% agree.
Wenger!!
Ozil is the Michale Angelo who turned football into stunning Art where his every pass was breathtaking!
What Özil played at Real Madrid was unbelievable and shows exactly what street football means. What a Great footballer he was.
Why did rm sell him?
@@donaldvanvliet9039 because of his father. He tried to get a new contract for Mesut and faild due to crazy requests/ requirements for the new contract. It was so weird, that Florentino Perez himself stopped every negotiation between Real & Mesut‘s father. At that time, Arsenal stepped in and signed Özil. Without the huge roadblock, Özil would never ever sign a contract with Arsenal. Interesting side note, Ronaldo was furious when he heard that Mesut will leave the club. Because he was so important as playmaker for Real at that time. That’s the story behind Özil & RM.
25 assists each season for the 3 he was there that’s fukin insane
Thanks Gary for defending him here. When Ozil joined he elevated that Arsenal team SO much. and sometimes he was dragging that team up with his class alone. The Arsenal fans are shocking towards him.
Alexis did, not him
elevated ? LOL, Real Madrid won La Decima right after they sold Ozil and replaced him with a solid Playmaker like Modric, Arsenal get into UCL after they sold Ozil and replaced him with Odegaard instead, contrary to what you said
@@TheDarkKnightRacist modric wasn't exactly his replacement tho. More like Di Maria was preferred over Özil even though he was sold after La Decima.
@@jagmaharesi2486 what ? Di Maria literally playing together with Ozil during Mourinho eras, Ancelotti replaced Ozil with Modric, and than Bale replaced Di Maria, or shall i say upgraded

On his day he was absolutely majestic and a joy to watch as an Arsenal fan but agree that you just never knew what you'd get with him. Was as capable of producing a moment of complete and utter magic one moment to just going completely missing in a game the next and looking like he couldn't care less. All that said I have so many fond memories of him playing for us and still remains the most excited I've been when signing a player.
Ozils problem was that he wasnt a leader. Doesn't mean bad attitude, but he wasn't the type to drag you over thge line on his own. it didn't help that wenger never gave him a proper midfield behind him to give him security.
He had his best season playing ahead of Coquelin and Cazorla, what are you on about?
@@juuglord8509 how long did that last? Also, let's not pretend Wenger planned it, coquelin getting into the team was a pure accident.
@@killadog84 You're right, but what does that change? He was given a proper midfield, and only had 1 good season to show for it. Meanwhile, his contemporaries, guys like Mata and Silva for example, adapted their game while Ozil asked Wenger for permission to sit out of away fixtures.
The best players improve those around them and raise the level of the team. Özil was a luxury player that Arsenal weren’t in a position to carry, and he completely failed to take the next step in terms of being able to dominate and influence games.
@@juuglord8509Hahahha comparing Mata to Özil is hilarious. Even Silva is an insulting comparison, Ozils talent is on another level.
Özil was world class up until the 18/19 season, "one good season" is absolute nonsense. And thats despite him having major issues with injuries. Özil performed at an extremely high level for years despite not being in his physical prime and playing for subpar Arsenal teams. You would have wanted the likes of Silva and Mata hung probably if they played in those conditions.
An absolutely world class playmaker. Had injury problems at times and was also often a bit sulky, which hurt his legacy.
Öz to me is was exceptional at Arsenal i feel the level of players dropped and it affected him because you can't do it on your own.... But Öz had beautiful moments He was a Magician ❤❤❤
I appreciate Gary’s level headed optimism.
We loved Ozil ❤. He was spark in that finished Arsenal team
The 🫏 Giroud lost Özil the assists record when he didn’t score for 15 games in a row despite Özils record for most chances created
People talking about that excellent season he had but forget about the others where people wanted him to be benched if not sold.

Linekar is awesome... broke this down perfectly.
Ozil is a player who needed to be in a good team, because he needed to be carried when things were tough. Our Arsenal team fell off big time after Sanchez and a few more left and he had a lot of mediocre players around him for his later years. That's why he seemed to be better in a great Madrid team and his early Arsenal years when we were decent. I can see why Arteta didn't stick with him, not that he wasn't world class, but he did need to be carried when the chips were down and the Arsenal team Arteta had when he took over wasn't good enough to be able to carry players.
Looool if ozil had the right players and system around him he would’ve been something else
Just like he was at madrid...88 assists for ronaldo
@@erkanyunis470 he got 19 assists in one season with giroud up top no one can tell me if we had someone like haaland he would’ve smashed the assist record
Özil was partly a victim of his environment. Arsenal were in decline/transition in his late 20s. Had Arsenal clinched a league title during his time he could’ve been mentioned among the great Arsenal players
Quality player could of been a legend 😊
Let it go!
Best number 10 I’ve ever seen
A modern creative midfielder also has to track back, block passes, make tackles and win balls. Ozil had a very poor defensive workrate. Being magical does not make you a good player.
So you think he played for Mourinho , played on the wings in some game for the German team on 2014 while having "poor workrate"
@@emelmanu11 for mourinho, he had one job - provide to ronaldo and di maria. Mou had enough defensive players. I have never seen him on the wings, maybe one or two odd game.
@@emelmanu11 Ozil's own biography shares a story of Mourinho scolding him for not doing precisely this. He was also at Madrid where he wasn't the top dog. He came to Arsenal as a star when Arsenal couldn't really attract them thought he was above the club (I put some of the blame on his agent, Erkut Sogut for this) and that's why he eventually fell out with them the way that he did.
@pnthrillz maybe 1 or 2 odd games = ¼ vs France , ½ vs Brazil, final vs Argentina until Kramer got injured. Everyone except maybe cr7 used to defend in that Madrid team , Mou used to play with 2Def mid except against FCB
@juuglord8509 I'm not saying that he was a Kante when it comes to workrate. But people painting him as a lazy player is wrong , you obviously need to have some level of defensive workrate to play under Mou for so long. Yeah, this makes sense , not being the man on the team can pressure you to give more of yourself. The Arsenal transfer didn't make that much sense , the team was full of those flair players and lack physical presence, also people don't take into consideration that the EPL is faster than la Liga , and he's coming from Real Madrid top dog in their league to Arsenal
They needed an all round, world class striker back then. Suarez would of been huge, bringing goals and assists.
Ozil was a lazy, luxury player. Moments and glimpses .. if you needed him when it was tough going, he went missing
Ozil was the master of key passes, but he didn't have the ability of a true playmaker to control the game and tempo like Modric, Xavi, Scholes, or Pirlo. that's why he was sold by Madrid.
👆
No that's not the reason. Özil was more offensive than these players and has way better G/A stats.
Mesut was magic
As an Arsenal fan I can speak with authority any gooner who hates ozil is mental.
As a city fan ozil was the boss
Alan’s right - He downed tools a lot more than people like to remember. He was very inconsistent most seasons and he was unable to show more than a spark of his usual brilliance in his last 18 months at the club. His huge wages stifled us and his defensive output was aimless and questionable. He was a joy to watch for a couple of seasons but his mentality wasn’t right towards the end.
Elegant player
Ozil together with Sanchez or Giroud at Arsenal was sublime.
A preview for a 3 ½ min video?
For some reason i feel like he lacks confidence or something is just missing. Playing for germany was probably a nightmare for him too. Should have played for Turkey and his own ppl would have done wonders for his self esteem.
Nah. He was one of the best I've ever seen in an Arsenal shirt and yes, post 2006 fan here
not a main man, david silva is basically what arenal fans thought frauzil was, as the great ancelotti said, ozil could have stayed at Madrid and fought for his place but went to arsenal as he didnt fancy the fight, he had no guts and went to a place he'd be comfortable at, even jose challenged ozil.
World Cup Winner, La Liga winner, Spanish, German and 4x FA Cups. What more could he have done? Yes, he missed out on a champs league but would never have won it at Arsenal. Clearly, he fell out of love with the game but there were other great players in modern times who were the same (Gareth Bale). Why do we criticise and just celebrate his wins, what an incredible player he was and that left peg.
Put a world class striker like Ronaldo/Halaand in front of Özil, a good defensive midfielder like Gündogan and two fast wingers like Robben and Ribery and any team in the world is done! In order to use his full skillset you have to know how to implement players around him. He was never a leader, but a world class playmaker whenever he had good players around him.
Ozil was insane! Special talent!
As soon as he spoke up for Uyghur Muslims being persecuted in China, his career started taking a downfall. I don't think that's a coincidence. Arsenal's 'higher-ups' instructed the club to leave Ozil out due to him upsetting partnerships with Chinese brands. The guy was silenced for speaking on a genocide! How tf you think his footballing career gonna be affected afterwards? 🤦🏽♂️
Let's forget how Sokratis also got froze out even though he did not spoke up about the uyghurs 😂 his career has been on a downfall long before that

Özil was a silent rebel. We wasn't pop. He did his way. Didn't give in to the "Football Gods".
Wenger's fault. Put him out on the left. Asked him to do things he isn't built or good at doing. You don't buy Ozil and turn him into a workhorse. He had to do so much because we had so many average players
Team Arsenal had around Ozil wasn’t the best. Look how many chances he created that ended up being wasted by Giroud. He was one of those players that needed quality around him cos he was exactly that. Look at his stats at Madrid when he had Ronaldo. Gutted Arsene and Arsenal didn’t make good use of his talent at Arsenal. Magical footballer
I don't think it was about the money with ozil even when he moved to turkey it just looked like he had given up on football
Ozil can never be the focal point of a team his biggest weakness is that he can be marked out of the game. At Madrid there were so many good players it allowed him to be free. At Arsenal if you shut him down you shut Arsenal down. And he doesn't provide anything in a defensive transition.
Difference is Havertz has a fire in his eyes whereas Ozil never did.
The team's/club's weak mentality affected Özil, that's why players like Sanchez, Van Persie, Fabregas etc left before him. Arsenal weren't ambitious and competitive enough to hold onto world class players. Things have changed now.
Ozil is a once in a generation footballer, put more respect on his name
Ozil is one of a kind.
Teams could no longer afford having a luxury player, the game was evolving, the number 10 role was dying and that’s why Madrid sold him.
Ozil was a generational supporting player forced to lead a weak team, and he still helped that Arsenal side win many games
Ozil was a big game choker. He was absolutely brilliant and made magical plays but he was ultimately not as good for big games
He had Giroud in front of him which hurt his numbers. Even worse, Giroud his since managed to cleanse his reputation from his Arsenal crimes.
😂
Ozil 🐐
Finally someone not afraid of being cancelled lol there’s no division with the fans only deluded fans who where happy with no trophies are bitter… let’s not forget his first year he broke the trophy drought
Shearer has a bee in his bonnet for no real beyond "he looked like he didn't care" - would he say that about a similar English player? Joe Cole?
Unreal player if you don’t mind your team defending with ten men when the opposition had the ball attitude and effort a question but never talent
Alan Shearer is so simplistic in his analysis
If Ozil played with Partey or Rice he would have won us a title he was never supposed to defend
In the end he didn't play because of his comments about China and the club having no backbone when China was going to pull all Arsenal from the country
ozil was fantastic at arsenal and real Madrid. but he showed complete disrespect to the arsenal squad and coaches at the very end. he was a burden on the squad
Cr7 went to president of Real Madrid to say stop Ozil leaving
Before winning 3 or 4 CL titles without him. He probably only did it because Ozil was the only player selfless enough to square the ball in front of an open net so he could stat pad.
Ozil showed glimpses of brilliance, but most the time it would be like playing with 10 men.
I was never having Ozil in the prem… class at Madrid don’t get me wrong… and numbers at Arsenal seemed good but to be honest it was like playing with 10 men he was a passenger most the time…. Give me odegaard over him everyday of the week
Of course he would be class at madrid. He had ronaldo benzema with him. Who did he have at arsenal ? He was my best 10 in the world
You’re in the other half of our fanbase that completely disregard the fact that odegaard is in a completely different team with better teammates.

Still remember Real Madrid won 4 out of 5 UCLs after selling him... Bale just was the player... fast and to the point...
Ozil is simply over-rated
He couldn't have given more because that was all he had.

Shearer being condescending towards actual world class players far above his level is so weird. It genuinely feels like he believes he is on that level or even better.
Why didn’t win the f***ing world cup? Is it the teams fault or his fault?
Özil is Bigger than Arsenal bro
Ozil had Giroud to work with, go figure
Ozil turned into a flat track bully at Arsenal after the first few years. Majestic against the lesser teams but generally anonymous against the big teams in the league. Most certainly away from The Emirates anyway.
Also it really just comes down to the pace and power of the Premier League and that 2016 onwards the league dramatically improved in quality so Ozil did not have the time anymore to dictate games nor was he suited to the physical side of the league as well especially as lone free N10s were dying out of the game from 2016 onwards as well.
That applies to the whole team, not just Arsenal. We barely turned up away from home to any of the so called "big teams"
People say Ozil goes missing, but the whole Arsenal side for about a decade was a bit flakey. When Ozil joined, trophies followed. And we had our first league title pursuit in 7 years
@@Alasad6454 But Ozil did not play a direct role in winning those FA Cups and was pure coincidental and Yaya Sanogo played a bigger role in winning the Fa Cup 2014 with his pre assist. Regardless of where Arsenal were at the time it still does not disprove my point that he was Ill suited to the changing times in football and in the Premier League .
Look at the defense we had for Arsenal. Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Carl Jenkenson, Nacho Monreal and a poor midfield of Francis Coquelin, Abou Diaby, etc. The problem is that we never bought proper defenders. The reason why we are top of the league is because we have top quality defenders. The issue for Arsenal has always been defense and midfield.
@@silas232003Yes the arsenal team at the time was bad but again you are glossing over the main point which was previously mentioned which is a player like Ozil who is a luxury player without PNP was becoming obsolete 2016 onwards and now all midfielders have to work hard on and off the ball while being physical and having pace. He peaked early during a time when N10s were given the freedom to do what they want but even by 2014 to 2016 you could clearly see where the trends where going.
Regardless of Arsenal having better defenders or not he would not be getting into the team even during his peak physical years as he was ill suited to how football is now.
Unfortunately it seems Shearer doesn’t know ball. Some people better at playing than observing. At least try and be a bit unbiased next time
I didn’t understand why he wasn’t playing in a squad who so desperately needed him. The politics in this game are ridiculous, and ozil chose to speak out about inhumane treatment of Muslims. Arsenal chose to think about the Chinese market he offended 🤷🏾♂️
Did Ozil Career at Arsenal end when he spoke up against the Muslims bring persecuted in China, and Chinese tv pulled the plug on an Arsenal game.
No, that was a myth crafted by Ozil and his agent Erkut Sogut to save his image. By the time he had made any comments he was out of favour with Emery and even Ljunberg and Arteta continued to play even after he made those comments. The real issue was the fact that Arsenal were actively trying to move him on because he wasn't worth what they were paying him, so they did what every club does and forced him out.
And this right here is exactly why people are losing faith in punditry. These lot are usually fantastic but can we have the balls to criticize big mistakes?
Love my club but we betrayed this man when we kneeled for BLM and then kneeled to Chinese pressure and said nothing about the abuse of Uyghurs - who Özil shares a bond with through his faith in Islam. He was silenced and told to stfu and dribble the ball. The club was dying and he had no reason to believe in us.
What I remember most is how he didn’t play an away game for about 15 months
gary is right. shearer has no understanding of anything different to himself.
OVERRATED because of 2 reasons - poor work rate and poor record against the top-6. As a liverpool fan, I loved him playing in Arsenal, we used to destroy him. He was absent in the pitch.
Ozil was so inconsistent.
Attichood stank. Would take a 7/10 Milner everyday of the week rather than an Ozil givin a 10/10 once every 5 games
He could have given more if he wasn’t eliminated from the squad due to his beliefs. Everyone knows he was not allowed to play for arsenal when he spoke up for the ughyur Muslims who were being tortured
Everyone knows he was sent off the team cause of the Chinese investors
I am an Arsenal fan i have watched a lot of playmakers play for Arsenal in the last 20 years or so. I can say Ozil to me is the best playmaker we have had. I love Dennis and Cesc but Ozil was wonderful given the players he played with except Alexis. I remember a match he gave Theo 3 clean assists in the 1st half and Theo 'comfortably' missed all, imagine if it was Henry or RVP.
Hard to believe you're an Arsenal fan of 20 years if you really believe that. The only player he had was Alexis? Are you forgetting it was Coquelin and Cazorla's support that helped him have that outstanding 15/16? What about Ramsey, the only player besides Sanchez that won our POTY twice between 2013 and 2017? Ozil wasn't even our best player for good chunk of time he was with us but you seriously rate him ahead of Dennis and Cesc? Lol, alright.
@juuglord8509. If you read my words I said playmaker and not better player than Cesc or Dennis, so there is a difference. Also, I mentioned attackers that could finish like Henry and RVP who Dennis and Cesc played with. Please name one quality Striker on the same level of Henry and RVP Ozil played with at Arsenal. Only person that comes a bit close is Aumba. You mentioned Ramsey who had a good season and benefited from Ozil's assists which shows you how good his numbers could have been if he had very good players playing with him in attack. Ozil did have his flaws but it is unfair to deny how brilliant a playmaker he was. Again would you compare a season of having Carzola and Coquelin to having many seasons of Veira and Giberto? Really?
@@chrisnjoku2777 Well he played with Aubamayang, and what did he have to show for it? And if it takes players of that quality for Ozil to be worth it then what's the hype? Those players are far and few between. Discussions about Ozil are always so funny to me because they always become arguments about other players. You'll blame everyone around him when the going gets tough, but when things are running well, it's all because of him. You even credit Ramseys success to him, it's laughable.
@jugglord8509 well if you are an Arsenal fan you should know most of his career at Arsenal was not played with Auba. Really funny when you say quality because you have to have good players to finish then chances you create, I don't think you need a basic understanding of football to know that. Again, Ozil has his flaws which I mentioned earlier and it is not down to other players but when you talk about playmaking how will you not compare it with people who he had in his team to finish the chances he creates? When he had Cirstiano and Karim(although he was frustrating at times then)such arguments were not heard because they are quality players. I would pick other Aresnal players over Ozil when it comes to some other aspects but I will not deny he was very good at creating chances no matter my bias about him which is what I do not appreciate from some fans.
Also I am not crediting Ramsey's success to him, just say when you have good players finishing you chances you create your numbers go up. I remember some half chances he created for Ramsey that season and he scored, again quality!!!
Arsene wenger wasted ozils time at arsenal by not buying a proper striker and a cdm
Agree on the striker part but Ozil had the best season in his career statistically playing ahead of Cazorla and Coquelin, who if you were paying attention at the time was probably one of if not the best CDM in the league for a season and a bit afterwards.

You think the fact that Hazard, who was probably the worlds best at that moment turned Coquelin one time means he was a bad player? Ozil only looked good because of Coquelin and Cazorla, because by your own admission, Ozil depends on the players around him being good to look good.

Didn't stand up for the club
Held us to ransom
Look what happened when. He went to his beloved fernabache
Germany thing was out of order, but if he was so important, they'd have kept him
Just shut up !
@@anwartemam5168 why because I am part of the half that can't stand him and you want to tell me about operation in Brazil and Chinese muslims
whats this about operation in brazil? ive never heard of it@@wowcbi
You certainly spoke facts
Yup yup! Most of the people commenting here didn't actually watch him play outside of highlights like the Leicester game but anyone that was paying attention between 2013 and 2017 knows the deal. He was one of our better players but not this superstar/legend they try to make him out to be. Wasn't even our best midfielder while he was with us IMO. It was between Santi and Ramsey.
Arsenal failed ozil
He was artist, If I had to choose one footballer to see for a lifetime it's going to be ozil
Shearer’s analysis is so basic. Feel like a 7 year old kid is in his ear telling him what to say
Purest number 10 ever
Ozil would of had more assists if Arsenal had better finishers during that period
If my nan had wheels she'd be a bike.
