I will say I don’t get on the train at New Orleans square, not enough people get off there so it’s always a long wait. I will do Tomorrowland more often because my husband rides a scooter and we can park it there and do the full circle.

The original Space Mountain was in Disney World of course. It was one of the few rides that originated in Disney World and then moved to Disneyland.

It actually didn't move to Disneyland. They built a totally new one at Disneyland. The one at WDW is still there.

Yep. That's why the WDW version is rough like Matterhorn and Disneyland is smooth. Disneyland track is different than WDW... I think. It's been a while since I rode both. 😅 Happy Holidays

I think for SM what I would like to see is the "real" Q expanded so there are more chances to look out into space (screens) and what not. Along with keeping the ride track the same but having screens on the inside like the Sphere in Vegas. Imagine the entire ride feeling like your really in the endless void of space? Would be amazing and allow them to bring back an improved version of Ghost Galaxy and the Star Wars Verizon and even easily make special versions of the ride for events as well.

The trick to riding Matterhorn without being tossed around too much is to sit forward with your back away from the backrest - then lean with the turns (as if you were actually doing a bobsled ride)

Just took my family there for 5 days and was a little disappointed with the overall quality at the park. Buzz lightyear astro blasters needs some major TLC and the gardening out front was unkempt. Cast members would talk about outside problems too (not something I'm used to seeing) the mandalorian pushed my 8 year old away when he asked to take a picture with him. It wasn't it for us and we will probably hold off a few years on going back unfortunately 🥺

Another of your very best videos. Childlike enthusiasm and an upbeat infectious tone for a place so many of us adore. Keep it up. For me, editorials, places Disney can improve, and all that are fine, but never if they become a drumbeat message over time and across videos. I can get pundit messages and constant criticism a zillion other places, but most times are from people looking for clicks, not who try to first convey their love of the place from someone who really cares. Keep smiling and spread that love of the Happiest Place on Earth - it’s why Fresh Baked is what it is. I’ve been to all the Disney parks in the US dozens or hundreds of times over the years, and was fortunate to get to Tokyo Disneyland a couple times before DisneySea was built. They’re all great, but like you, Disneyland has always been, and always will be the most special one for me.

You so get "Disneyland" my friend. I love these vlogs. Everything you're saying is exactly why Disneyland will forever be my favorite, and I've been to all of them. I am a fan of coasters, an enthusiast, but I'm a Theme Park fan first. You and Liz and the kids must at some point visit " Efteling" in the Netherlands, your mind will explode. If you decide one day to shop airlines for a trip to Europe, when you've decided on the best fair available let me know what it is and my wife and I will beat it and fly you ourselves in our CJ3+ Citation

I checked out a car on base and drove to Paris seeking a bit of home, Disneyland Paris. While there a cast member made me her mission determined to make my visit perfect, she was Dutch. By the end of my second day she had talked me into driving to Kaatsheuvel to visit Efteling, mind blown

If you rope-dropped Space Mountain, road the Disneyland Railroad, made it through the queue at Peter Pan's Flight, messed up your back on the Matterhorn, cooled down on Pirates of The Caribbean, and finally rode the Omnibus to the exit, that would be a heck of a day. Throw in a meal and some Mickey beignets, that's a magical day. Thanks Dave!

For ME, it's not about ANY singular attraction (or even all collectively)... it's the PLACE, that milieu, the ambiance. I LOVE it even if I just wander. The reason for this is partly nostalgia, I've been going to Disneyland since it opened, my childhood and life are to a degree entwined with the place. I remember Walt Disney... I remember a lot of attractions no longer there... so many good memories. I go under that bridge, see Main Street, and a smile comes to my face. Every time.

Remember going as a 4 year old the first week Pirates opened. As a young teenager in the 70’s I was there the first week Space Mountain opened and Big Thunder Mountain, still miss the Mine Train thru Natures Wonderland. Worked at the Disneyland Hotel thru college in the mid to late 80’s. I remember the lean years at the park thru the 90’s, and its resurgence after 2000. Been a pass holder for the last 20 plus years. So my ride selection that as a 60 year old goes as this. Pirates, Tiki Room, Great Moments with Abe, Small World, the Train…….Matterhorn honorable mention. These to me represent what Walt was aiming for as the park evolved. The Train was an original, but probably was the reason there’s a park. I miss the oldies, People Mover, America the Beautiful Circarama theater, America Sings, Bear Country Jamboree……..these were teenage favorites. I hope they don’t destroy what remains as landmark attractions that take you back, but they’ve already have.

DL has been so special to me all my life, been most yrs, aside from a 20-yr break as a broke young adult ;) , and you’re reminding me how much I want to take some beloved relatives who’ve never been. Gotta make a plan, and save some pennies (I mean dollars, or 100 dollar bills…) … It’s a lovely goal, something to ponder for fun.

Well I applaud your attempt at picking the 5 most iconic rides that defines Disneyland and I’m guessing in order to? Well choosing 5 would be extremely difficult if not impossible. I would also challenge you to pick the most iconic experiences of all of Disneyland. Rides, experiences, etc. now myself being an old timer and been going to Disneyland since the 60’s I have a different perspective. I also wouldn’t just pick just rides. Now would be extremely difficult to pick just 5 but I’ll give it a go. From most to least. 1/ Matterhorn. It’s first a ride that you look for on the drive to Disneyland. It’s the first steel tubed coaster. It’s the only ride that exists at Disneyland only. It happens to be my favorite ride of all time. ( also special note : there is a trick to riding the Matterhorn that does not hurt your back and makes it more enjoyable. When you get to the top of the hill sit up in the seat and ride it like your riding a horse. It’s the seat of that transfers the roughness of the ride to your body. This also applies to Indiana Jones. 2/ the tram into the park. I know it’s not a ride per say but it’s a memorable experience both into the park and back to your car. 3/ the train as it’s the first thing you see and you always hear the sound of the train coming into the station. 4/ Main Street. Walking up Main Street. 5/ Pirates definitely the most iconic ride overall, agree with you there. 6/ Haunted Mansion. 7/ Peter Pan. 8/ Space Mountain. 9/ Splash Mountain. 10/ Monorail. Will have to reevaluate my choices and positions but that’s my picks at this point.

I used to ride the Disneyland Railroad first thing. See, way back when, you couldn't instantly get into the rest of the park when you got there before what is now called "rope drop" . . . but the trains on the Disneyland Railroad would be going. So, I would get on the Disneyland Railroad, but unlike Walt Disney's vision, I would use it as transportation to the first two rides I wanted to ride so badly - the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. Today's Disneyland isn't like the Disneyland back then. I can't even tell you how many decades back that memory comes from. But I remember it vividly, because most people waited for the rope drop while I joined other people getting on the Disneyland Railroad to disembark at the New Orleans Square station to get a head start on two of the most popular attractions of Disneyland.

One thing that makes Disneyland unique and special, to me, is something that appeared right at the end of the video: the Flag Retreat. I love this little show. I love that it happens every day. I love being there and seeing the small, but dedicated group that show up for it. I don't get to see it often because I go with people who unfortunately, for their own reasons, don't appreciate it. But whenever I go by myself, I love to watch it. Walt said that "Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America." To me, that flag retreat ceremony echoes that sentiment and how important it is to the foundation and core of Disneyland. It's something that everybody should stop and watch, regardless of your feelings toward the current state of the country. I always feel that it renews my passion for why I love being who I am, living where I am, and having the priviledge to go to this place - especially as often as I go. Another thing that I love is It's a Small World, especially the Holiday version. It gives me hope for the world. Hope that everything is going to be okay. Hope that despite our differences, we will overcome them and learn to live in peace. It is that source of joy and inspiration that all the world needs to see. Yes, it is at most of the other Disney resorts, but the holiday version is unique to Disneyland. That's what makes it even more special at this time. It's those messages of hope and peace and kindness that resonate with me when I'm at Disneyland. Do I take those values outside the park always? Unfortunately not but I always try to live by them when I can. Other theme parks don't spread those messages. They don't take the time to educate or inspire. That's really the Disney difference. Without being preachy, the best attractions and experiences teach something to us and give us something to look forward to even outside of our Disney day. Not many things make me tear up, but those two things almost always manage to get me. I'm usually pretty curmudgeonly but even I have a soft spot for those things that inspire us to be better people

I love the Disneyland Space Mountain...one of my all time faves. But the one in Paris is UNREAL! It makes you go, wheeehoooo! 😊 45 degree launch into the ride at 44 mph..then into a loop... Barrel rolling while tie fighters are shooting you. It's so good!

Sadly I miss the old feeling Disneyland. It’s just not the same anymore. While their are still one or two great things and a handful good things it just has mired in negatives than positives since the corporation continues to squeeze every nickel possible out of the guest to make up for the rest of the companies epic/catastrophic failures

@@WindowtotheMagic hard to describe but it’s like some of the magic is gone. You can even see it on some of the cast members faces that things are different. Disneyland used to be all about bringing the magic to life and encouraging the dreams and imaginations of kids. Now it feels more like it’s all about a being a solid business choice and money maker for the corporation. Disneyland in Japan and France still have that feeling but Disneyland not so much sadly and I miss it

The Space Mountain speedramp wasn't just from the 70's, it lasted into the mid '90s! Best ever.

It was still the speed ramp from the 1970's all the way up until it was removed.

Speaking of indoor coasters, if your a fan of Montezooma's Revenge at Knotts and you're as concerned for its future as I am, Walibi Belgium, In my opinion, created a masterpiece while breathing new life into their Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop "Psyké Underground" is awesome.

When I was a kid, my family would come to DL from northern California one day each summer. We thought we were the cool kids because we could go so often. But the first ride we always took was the train. We all loved it, but for slightly different reasons. For my dad, his first job (1930s) was working in an ice house for the railroad in southern California. For my mom, it was memories of riding the Daylight Special and eating like a queen. For my brother, he collected and worked with model railroads. For my sister, it was she was back in DL! And for me, it was all about the folklore of America, the tales of John Henry and Casey Jones and the old romance of the rails. That circle tour of the park still looms large in my heart.

Yeah, Peter Pan. Yeah, Matterhorn. Ok, ok, you hit it on the head. Pirates! We STILL wants the redhead. Wait, now we REALLY wants the redhead! There's just something about a woman with a sword! (gulp, ok, that didn't come out well)

When I am Disneyland I make it a point to attend the flag retreat. As a Viet Nam era veteran, I was not treated well by the public and this is one of the few places that veterans can gather and are respected.

The Space Mt queue doesn't look very interesting to me. The queue in WDW is great because you jump immediately into the space ambience. I think I am going to like Disneyland's train better though. WDW also has dark rides but Disneyland definitely has more of them so am looking forward to that. I like WDW monorial system better because it is gorgeous to ride at night if you visit the beautiful resorts. WDW does have Everest, which I think is better than the Matterhorn, but I am looking forward to riding Matterhorn for a change. As for Pirates, I think the ride is better at Disneyland, but I love the beautiful cavernous queue at WDW. I am hoping to experience some of Disneyland's uniqueness when I'm there on the 18th after a very long absence. With all that said, I am a little worried about the wait times because I'm been comparing WDW and Disneyland almost daily, and Disneyland's wait are much longer! 5 days until the start of my road trip to California!

I have been to Disneyland a dozen times this year... Hoped to run into you every time this year and have not yet. But I have also been to Disney Paris this year and it's not the same. Disband will always be unique. It will always hold a special place in my heart. It is a special place that I feel no matter how many other parks they make, it will always be a special place ...

Tom Sawyer Island (1955), Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes (1956) and The Swiss Family Treehouse (1962) were Disney IP based attractions.

new thought: Before Star Tours, all "IP" in DL could/should have been public domain. The fantasyland IPs, although we think of as Disney, are mostly Grimm fairy tales, etc.@@WindowtotheMagic

The costumes of the cast members on each ride is also iconic. You don't see that anywhere else.
