How to change Honda CRZ Front & Rear Brake Rotors & Pads! (2010-2016 CRZ)

  • Hey guys!
    I desperately needed to change out my CRZ brake rotors & pads so I thought I'd make a video out of it. I could tell my pads went bad and it was cheaper to just buy the entire replacement kit. I hope this video helps you if and when you decide to do this on your own. Special thanks to my dad for always lending a hand and showing the way!
    You can buy the kit at: ebay.to/2jYAuPR

    Just came back to this video after a few years. Wasn't sure if I previously did the front or back on mine. The video immediately opened to the later half where you did the rears. Going to use the second half of this video today. That brake clip would have been the part where I started getting frustrated without the video. Thanks for the help!

    This vid came in handy for my rear caliper. To disconnect the parking brake cable. If you open the brake reservoir cap, it makes it easier to compress the caliper. Just make sure it doesn't overflow. Always a good idea to grease up the shims, hub screws and inside wheel with ceramic grease to prevent seizing.

      @@TommyMccoyMedia I also have a '14 that started to make grinding noise but only when it's been sitting for hours and turning left while moving. My brother -in-law (B.I.L.) told me he'd help me do the front brakes and rotors, which is why I'm watching this. Local shop said my pads were down to 3MM and they are 10MM new. My B.I.L. whom was a pro. motorcycle mechanic, said the grinding sound is probably the calipers getting stuck against the rotors or something to that effect.

    Hey man, this is a decent video but you really should clean and re-grease the slide pins to stop them jamming over time. You should also be using factory torque setting and threadlock for the caliper carrier mount bolts and the bolts from the caliper to slider. I suggest to make those part of your next video as the sliders are very important for maximising the life and performance of the discs and pads and the torques are there for safety.

    Those two jis screws are similar to the spleen. They served a purpose at one time but they no longer do. As easy as the two screws came out for you mine were equally as difficult lol. I had to pulverize mine. I believe they were used in either the manufacture or assembly process and then left behind. Go ahead and take a drill bit and some wd40 to them.

    I’m new to all this car stuff, what’s the point in compressing the pistons?

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  4 роки тому +1

      Steph Odz it’s to get the caliper to clear the brake pads. If the pistons are not compressed you won’t be able to mount the caliper 😬. When you step on the brake pedal, that piston pushes down on the pad which makes contact with the rotors. Thanks for watching dude!💪🏽

      When you put in new pads you usually want to also replace the rotors. Both brand new surfaces so that there isn’t any uneven wear when the brakes are activated. Plus it’s convenient, your there already so you might as well change them. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
