As a MPC user since the 60. I’ve used Maschine when it first came out and it was cool. I will say this, if you never used any MPC,the workflow is totally different. But I have a MK3 and Komplete Kontrol 49 that I got for basically for nothing. I tried using the the MK3 and Komplete control but the workflow of those don’t work for me. No MP3 import or export, no real chord progressions, sequencer is iffy compared to the MPC, no audio tracks for editing or recording and etc. But I do love the default efx in Maschine. As far as sounds go, most people who buy MPC’S never brought them for sounds because we sample and it’s a sampler. The MPC had “Auto Sample”for years so it could make its own key groups. I’m not here to bash Maschine because it’s a capable device to make anything with but remember that MPC is what it is and has been for a reason and yeah Maschine has some tight expansion packs but their both samplers so make your own.
No audio tracks on Maschine ? I have been recording audio on my Mk3 for years, and comping different takes of vocals and guitar.
6 years ago when I first started my beats I was using the Maschine but once I tried the MPC Ren in 2018 I was no longer a Maschine head lol. The MPC workflow just feels way more comfortable for me. I currently have the Live 2 retro and that's my main weapon of choice.
Hey thank you for commenting!!🙏🏾🙏🏾 MPC is definitely a dope peace of gear!! The Live 2 has so many features it’s crazy!!
I just got a machine plus and I’m loving it, coming from the octatrack which was short of a few important features, I learned it in a day. And it’s awesome! The MPCs were on my list after having used an MPC 1000 but I really don’t like touch screens.
@@rossawilson01The Maschine Plus is definitely dope! People don’t understand that having physical Knobs is a faster work flow! Thank you for commenting!
Agreed and it’s nice to not be on a computer, the machine killed my DAW!
Dope video bro! I totally agree with you. Im testing both of these right now. I love how the Maschine is laid out, I just wish it had a battery and speaker. The MPC Live 2 learning curve aint no joke. Its not crazy hard but it does take some learning. I'm more used to the Maschine and I am biased to their software as well, but the stand alone is just lacks that battery and speaker man.I have a V Mount Battery and a blue tooth speaker but now I'm carrying extra shit. Might as well just use my laptop at that point. I am probably sending it back and keeping my MK3 and MPC for stand alone stuff.
Thanks bro!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 If the M+ had a battery and speaker for me it wouldn’t even be a competition. I really like the Workflow of the Maschine. I agree bro, the MPC isn’t hard, I just think Maschine is more straightforward when it comes to creating and cooking up. Yea, to be honest I only use the Plus in the studio and not in standalone mode. If I’m not in the studio I will definitely grab the MPC just to create loops and drum patterns to bring back in the Maschine later on lol. Thanks for your comment bro! 🙏🏾
@@creativedwill Exactly! I use Ableton more than anything and the MPC exports to Ableton files so its actually easier to plug into my workflow. The plus name makes a lot of sense cuz its a controller plus it can do stand alone. They should've built it from the ground up as a totally different stand alone device
I love the sounds of Maschine, but I despise working with Steinberg as a company. Akai is easy to work with.
It’s dope that NI keeps all your purchases together and it’s easy to install and reinstall. Otoh, Akai doesn’t protect their expansions, they don’t use serial numbers. You just load it on the SSD (or sd card, or flash drive) and it just pops up under expansions. It is in no way a difficult procedure.
Hey thanks for commenting!🙏🏾 Yea it is a fairly easy process,. I just know for me when I downloaded an MPC expansion and loaded it on the Live II the picture didn’t show up and the kits would not preview.. It could be user error, but personally I prefer NI and Native Access
@@creativedwill Never had that happen with official downloads from Inmusic (Akai) but it’s been known to happen with user-created expansions (something NI doesn’t let you do btw). Weird bro but I guess it can happen. The main difference I think is that NI’s system is very closed off and curated, like the way Apple does things. Akai’s preference is to give users a bit more leeway with their file management
Yea it was my first and last expansion that I purchased from Akai.. they have great expansions, I just prefer Native Instruments system. It’s funny though because the Maschine Expansion that I converted worked fine on the MPC and didn’t give me any problems. Native Instruments just works and is perfect for my workflow, nothing against Akai😁
I have both of them as well they are both good I like using both because its two different layouts
Yeah exactly same here! Thank you for commenting 🙏🏾
i started with the Maschine Mk3 and I like the workflow of the maschine 2 software. the sound and kit is also good. i tried the software of mpc beats and i didnt like it. but one morning i decided that i want a stand alone and dont want to be tied up to a computer so i bought the mpc one and I really like it. The sound is limited but its solid. now I ordered the mpc live 2 because of the speaker, bluetooth, wifi and hard drive and its much easier to just record beat with any kits
Hey thank you for commenting🙏🏾🙏🏾! Yea I love the MPC for standalone, but the Maschine workflow is easier for me as well. It just clicks
Back with another one! Congrats on the 2K family! Blessings!
Yea sir I’m back at it!!😁😁 Thanks bro!!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate it bro!!🙏🏾
Definitely helpful thanks brother
Happy to help!🙏🏾
Maschine head since 2011, love the sounds, plugins and workflow. Got the live briefly in 2017 and took it back that week. Thought I’d give the Live II a try in 2020. I love it, and I’ve made so many bangers with it. It’s a swiss army knife and the speaker is amazing on it.
Hey thank you for commenting!🙏🏾 Yea the MPC definitely have some super dope features, that I’m loving! I’ve been really diving into it here lately and I must admit it’s kinda growing on me. Still love the Maschine Though 😁
@@creativedwill it will grow on you even more as you spend more time with it bro. It’s honestly amazing. I’ve made so many bangers faster than I ever have. However, maschine plus has the best sounds, akai can’t even touch it in that regard. I love them both.
Yea NI definitely have the sounds game on lock. I can’t even lie the more I learn and the more I mess with it the more I’m really rocking with it. It’s super fun doing everything in the MPC and for some reason the drums just hit harder on the MPC without doing much to them.
@@creativedwill Right!? Bro, that’s exactly what I thought the first day using it! I haven’t heard anyone else mention that, so it’s good to hear you say that. I love both, but damn to the drums KNOCK on the live ii!
@@heffe4257 Same here bro! And 100% agreee 😊
First and foremost, congratulations on 2K my brother!!! I had the MPC Live/Live 2 initially, and a little over a year ago I fell in love with how my Son was cooking on his MK3, and jumped into the Maschine World with the Plus. I went back to the MPC Live 2 Retro a month ago, strictly because I'm Dawless, and it fits my style. Maschine Plus is a lot of fun, and I won't hate on it, but it's definitely not truly Standalone. Great honest review fam, keep doing your thing! God bless!!🙏🏾✊🏾💚
Brooo as always thanks for the love and support!!!🙏🏾 Yea, the Maschine is dope when paired with a computer, but for the price point it’s not worth it when it comes to standalone for anyone that is just starting out or like to work strictly standalone. MPC live 2 is a way better option when it comes to standalone. I think for someone like me that just loves the Maschine and the workflow, it’s kinda worth just to have but I rarely use it in standalone mode 😂. Again bro thanks for your comment I truly appreciate you! 🙏🏾
@@creativedwill No doubt bro, changing beat machines won't stop me from supporting homie Aa🙏🏾✊🏾💚
hi, can you explain how the machine plus is truly not standalone?
Hey thanks for commenting! The Maschine is 100% standalone, but you have to have it plugged in to use it. Unlike the MPC Live 2 or the push 3 the Maschine doesn’t have a built in battery.
@@creativedwill Thank you so much for responding to me. So many people NEVER respond to my questions. Lord bless you!
Im decideding between the MPC and the Maschine. Im bummed hearing how much it crashes. but Im not crazy with the machine so I thought maybe it wont crsh a lot with me.
When do you notice it crashes?
As a massive (get it?) NI fan, get a Live II no question. For me, the mk3 is king of pad controllers, and I think the chip in the next Maschine+ if there ever is one will make it dope enough buy
Thanks a bunches for the honest review- it’s greatly appreciated! While I’m loving my maschine plus, I’d love to try the mpc in the near future!
Hey Janae, thank you so much for commenting!!!😊 Yea the Plus will always be my go to, but the MPC definitely has some advantages and it’s fun to cook up with. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with either though. Again thanks for commenting and I’m looking forward to your future content!!😁😁😊
Both are dope machines. When I work in standalone my MPC Live 2 is my go to. And I just got the Force so I’m good on standalone workstations for now. The Maschine plus seems dope too, but if I wanted any software integration for my controllers (which I usually just stay in the box with my samplers) IMHO I’d buy a Push 2 before the Maschine plus. Might purchase a refurbished plus in a few years down the line when the price drops by $500 bucks lol. What a fascinating time to be in as a beatmaker.
Hey thank you for commenting 🙏🏾 I want to try the Push 2 one day. I plan on purchasing one this year. Thanks again for commenting😊
I own both and find mpc live 2 in standalone unbeatable. The machine plus is a little more difficult to learn because it is not as logical as the Akai mpc.
The battery operation and the built-in speakers of the MPC make it a sophisticated standalone.
The machine plus in the next generation with a touchscreen, battery and built-in boxes would encourage me to buy it
Facts!!
I was at the decision point between the Maschine+ and Live II and went MPC. Standalone was the biggest factor at the time. The plus has improved but MPC has too.
I absolutely love the MPC live 2. I think there is nothing better out right now that’s better for Standalone. Whenever I go anywhere the MPC stays with me. When I’m in the studio I tend to go with Maschine, because all the NI sounds and browsing features
The plus is a horrible stand alone in my eyes once u master the mpc workflow youll find yourself rarely touching the computer even if its hooked up to the computer the most you'll do is choose your vst for sounds
Yea, the Maschine does need a bit of work to compete in the standalone space. I can’t wait to get to that point with the mpc. Everyone I know that has it says the samething! Thanks for commenting!🙏🏾😊
I tried both and the maschine+ made more immediate sense...I want to use totally stand alone...why isn't it as good for standalone as mpc one? The one at the shop had double triggering pads and really turned me off
The Plus more comparable to the MPC one than it is to the MPC live II in regards to Standalone features. I absolutely love the Plus!
@@creativedwill pulled the trigger on a plus today. Vids here and others really helped, thanks :) I kinda almost vomit when I look at the MPC UI so it wasn't a hard decision heh
Awesome!! 😊😊 Keep me updated on the Journey and let me know how you like it!! Yea the MPC is dope but I just love and prefer the Maschine Workflow and UI. After a while with the Maschine Things just flows from Muscle memory. There is to much menu diving in the MPC to get to what I want to. I will say the MPC live II is fun and dope to have but when it’s time for me to work I always go with the Plus. Native Instruments Eco system is the best on the Market in my opinion😁😁
I just want to say that i'm currently in this predicament, i'm leaning towards Machine but know a lot of MPC users. can't wait to hear this vid
Hey thank you for commenting🙏🏾 To be real, you can’t go wrong with either. I will say, having people you know working with the same hardware is a huge plus! If you have any questions or want any extra information/ tutorials to help you make your decision let me know and I can do a video. Let me know which one you choose 😁
@@creativedwill you got it, I think I know which one though. I will definitely let you know when I do. I'm researching as much as possible.
I have the Machine Plus, But I also have the MPC Live 2, X, Key 61. You should definitely dig more into the MPC it is easier and fun to use. You can also port the Machine expansions in the MPc, which makes it even more of a beast. I like using Machine plus in controller mode only.
Yea I am definitely diving into it a lot more. I have been watch videos on it and this thing can pretty do everything in one stop lol. I think Maschine really shines in controller mode. I really like using it as a midi controller as well for my DAW. Thanks for commenting, I really do appreciate it!🙏🏾
@@creativedwill No Problem and if you need help with adding the Machine expansions to MPC stand alone let me know.
Appreciate it!!!
Damn, the x and the live 2 AND Key61. Why?
@@flossondatrack8861 how do u do that? Exporting VST presets as a keygroup?
I’m cool. I’m still leaning the Maschine MK3 and Plus. I stay loyal to what I understand.
Yea, I think ima always be Maschine gang but the MPC does have some pretty cool features😊
Mk3 and plus? That’s redundant.
I still use Maschine MK1 for the very fact that Native Instruments excels at the software/hardware integration. The Plus can’t touch it, especially with it crashing and all that. I’ve never used an MPC but I think I’m gonna finally pull the trigger on the Live II. I know there will be a learning curve but I feel like the results will be well worth it. When I hear people’s beats on the MPC they just seem to hit hard as hell lol! But I’ve learned how to make Maschine hit too with a few tricks! The same way NI got the hybrid game mastered is the same way Akai has the standalone game mastered.
I 100% agree there is something about the MPC when it comes to the drums hitting hard! Yea Akai definitely has the Standalone game on lock. I think ima always Rock with the Maschine, just because I love the workflow. I wish NI would take a few notes on Akai when it comes to standalone features. Thanks for commenting🙏🏾🙏🏾
Facts
If NI gave us the ability to use all their plugins in Standalone it would hands down be worth it in my opinion.
Hey bro Whts the sauce on how to make the Maschine plus hit hard like the MPC live 2?
@Davon Stew ok thanks bro
MPC L2 is the king of standalone.I converted NI Expansion packs to MPC format.
My Maschine collecting dust along with computers.
I havent used neither over year.
Till maschine get touch screen and speaker they not in the standalone conversation to me.
Thank you for commenting! I have been rocking with the MPC a lot here recently. Akai did a really good job with it
How did you do that? Thats exactly what I want to do. Convert ni expansions to mpc
@wakinglife7065 hey thanks for commenting! Check out this video, I go over exactly how I did it. ua-cam.com/video/OvJQdyLCe24/v-deo.htmlsi=qtKR_hh9pl5MKoz7
@@creativedwill thank you! On it
I’m loyal to a fault with the Maschine+ because of the amazing workflow and the expansion packs/plugins but I’ve just recently got the MPC One instead of the live as there are tons of cool features for the price and the options are different from the Plus so I now have them both for different reasons.
Yea same for me! You really can’t go wrong with grabbing them both. They excel in their own way. Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it!🙏🏾🙏🏾
What can the One do that the Live II can’t?
Nothing, they both offer the exact same features in regards to creating and software wise. It’s literally the same firmware. The Live II has more physical features than the One, like built in Battery and Speakers and I think like one or two more inputs and outputs. But outside of that Everything else is virtually the same.
Thanks brodi. I use the MK3 now, but I'm lookin at gettin a Live 2 specifically for when I'm traveling.
It’s definitely worth it!
What’s the big brother to the MPC LIVE 2? I looked it up but can’t find the answer, even looked through the comments.
I would say the next up from the MPC live 2 is the MPC X. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MPCX--akai-professional-mpc-by-standalone-sampler-and-sequencer
I’m so confused bro. All the stuff you said the M+ can do as opposed to MPC (act as a controller, pull up the software in the DAW, etc) - literally all that stuff is the same with the MPC
Yea but the MPC Plugin is not really good in my opinion.. Also, the Maschine can be used as a Midi controller to map Midi CC controls, which can control your DAW of choice. I prefer using it with Cubase in both the Plugin Mode and Midi mode. Can the MPC map/ program all the hardware buttons and knobs as Midi Data?
@@creativedwill You know it doesn’t work like that. I was just responding to how you said it in your video. I use Cubase’s midi remote with Maschine too. It’s fine to have a preference. The MPC software has exactly the same workflow as the hardware
This kind of comparisons get muddy soon, as you are comparing too many things at once. M+ isn't the best device NI made, still I haven't seen a fully mixed song (with vocals and fairly complex effects and transitions) mastered and shit made completely on "stand-alone" devices like those. Most of the people who speak of stand-alone (Akai devices included) at a certain point of the workflow use a PC to finish/mix/master the loops they made with the standalone device. At this point a whatever DAW you like and a good usb controller covers the creative part (standalone-ish approach) then when you need to mix and master you switch to the DAW. The NI value proposition is dope, as you have both Maschine 2.0 software which is sleek but brings you to the full mix and several controllers to carry the creative part, some gives you a standalone like experience too and are dirty cheap in the second hand market.
Love your insight! Thanks for commenting🙏🏾🙏🏾
Got the live 2 and Mpc x. Mpc for life
lol Yea I can’t lie MPC is definitely a beast! Good stuff, thanks for commenting🙏🏾
I have the mpc one.. I Heard The maschine + crashes ALOT.. Oh you just said that lol
Yea it does freeze up a lot when you are running a lot of plugins lol
Which has better sounding swing? Mpc or maschine?
Hey thank you for commenting! I think they both sound pretty much the same to me lol 😊 I can say the drums sound a little better in the MPC than the Maschine.
MPC rules!
It’s definitely a great tool once you get the hang of it😊
can't I combine the Akai MPC one and maschine mk3 together makes it a power house ---- MPC one for as your main station for drums and you can use the Maschine Mk3 for sampling, leads ,chords, atmospheres etc!
What you think bro both combined
It might be possible! I haven’t thought about trying them together to see if it works. Thank you for commenting I really appreciate it🙏🏾😊
Where can I see a live 2 tutorial? I owned maschine for a year now. But i got the live 2 too.
Hey thank you for commenting!!!🙏🏾 A super dope UA-camr that I follow is Malo Beats. He has the best MPC tutorials I have found so far. Eventually once I get use to the workflow I will be knocking out some content showing my process but that won’t be for a while 😁ua-cam.com/users/mariooseguera90
You should check out a guy on UA-cam named Tubedigga, he’s very knowledgeable on the MPCs
2 Amazing units for many different reasons but trust me only one unit can standalone and it’s not the plus !!!
lol I 😂 I see what you did there! I would have to agree with this statement. Thanks for you commenting!🙏🏾
*"Maschine's FATAL FLAW:* no tempo or time-signature changes to scenes or patterns makes it rather worthless !!*
Granted, *it is possible to create some good sounding tracks on it* ., yet the *Maschine puts a fence around your creativity* by not allowing you to *Play in The Big Boys League.*
*It has bn out for too many years now, only to keep omitting this feature that is rather a common feature on the MPC & DAWS.*
*The Maschine is well built, but its sequencer is grossly incomplete, sub-par."*
Is mpc live better than mpc one?
It just depends on what you’re looking for. If your going to just be in the studio and will have monitors and a way to plugin the MPC One then for the money the MPC one would be a better option. If you are looking for something that is mobile and completely standalone/ wireless the then the MPC live is definitely the way to go. I personally Love the MPC live 2 and if I had to choose one it would be the Live. But again that just depends on your needs
@@creativedwill well, I currently have the Maschine mk3. I love Maschine workflow, but I really want to be standalone. I was considering selling my mk3 and getting a plus, but the Maschine plus has been out years now and is still really expensive so thought it might be better getting an Mpc. It’s a new workflow I’d have to learn, but there’s mpc live for sale second hand for decent price.
I have other bits of hardware (2 x Roland boutiques + td3) so want to sequence hardware also.
I can’t decide wether it’s a good idea or not. I don’t want to leave my Maschine behind as I really love the workflow but I don’t know if I can justify how much the plus still costs after it’s been out years. There a mpc live going for £420 second hand local to me at the mo.
How easy was it and how long did it take to get to know your way around when you first fired up an mpc after being a Maschine head already?
@h-dawg969 I personally would buy the Live 2 for that price. That’s a steal if it’s in good condition. Question is it the Live 2 ? It should have a built in battery and Speaker. If so, go for it! I have the Maschine Plus and I barely use it in Standalone. I love the Maschine workflow too, but in regards to standalone the MPC Live is King right now.
@@creativedwill nah it’s the Mpc Live, not Live 2.
I just can’t decide as it’s a new workflow but I think it makes more sense than selling my mk3 to get a plus. I just wish that the Maschine plus had come down in price a bit more.
What I might do is keep my mk3, and grab this Mpc live, then if I don’t get the hang of it I can resell it and I’ll still have my trusty old mk3 still.
He said "MPC PLUS"😆😂
lol 😂

@@ace0225 Yo if they do, that would be so dope!!!💯
Im a MPC live 2 user but I think I’m bout to switch over to the Maschine plus cause of it integration wit the NI software but two things Thts holding me back is the sound from the Maschine plus and the crashing. I’m trying see if NI will be doing a overhaul on they bugs n crashing.
Hey thank you so much for commenting! I personally really like the sound from NI because I’ve been using it for a while.. I do think the drums hit a little harder in the MPC but I think with very little tweaking the Maschine sounds just as good. I haven’t experienced any Crashing lately. Ima keep my fingers crossed lol 😂
@@creativedwill ok last question bro and I kno u kno how these companies be competing wit each other so with Akai just did a overhaul to there hardware and software do u think Native Instruments will be releasing a new and better Maschine or they go enhance the latest one and fix all the bugs etc and improve they capabilities?
I’m asking cause I’m bout to purchase me a Maschine plus cause of the way it interrogate wit the computer so marvelous tht my MPC Live 2 don’t u feel me
lol bro you can ask as many questions as you want! 😁 Man that’s a tough one.. I don’t think they will be releasing another Standalone hardware anytime soon. The MK3 has been out for a while and they haven’t updated that. I think they maybe doing some updates that improve stability, but they have been doing that since the release. Now I know that when it comes to sounds and instruments and Integration they will definitely keep updating! The MPC platform is more stable but The Machine Plus is just as stable when it’s connected to the computer in my opinion… it’s all about what do you do more of. If you produce primarily standalone then the MPC is what I would go for, if you are Hybrid and use the DAW 80% of the time and the other 20% you maybe go standalone then the Maschine is better. Decisions, decisions😁 To be real you can’t go wrong with either man. They are both worth it just in there different ways
Go for it then 100%! If you want that Integration then Maschine is the way to go. If you can afford the Plus then go for it, but if you got the Live too and just want that Maschine workflow I would go for the MK3. I rarely use the Plus in Standalone unless I’m working on a Album or project. The MPC is my go to right now for anything standalone.
I always say, Maschine for sounds, MPC for workflow and overall standalone.
Maschine definitely for sounds, but I would have to say Maschine for ease of workflow and MPC for Standalone and more in-depth workflow😁

lol 😂 They are definitely crushing it with the Software side of things for sure!
Hate none of you UA-camrs mention that for most people you're better off with the Maschine Mk3 than than the plus, the maschine+ is too expensive to be running it 99% of the time with a computer
