Concrete has compressive strength but has no tensile strength. This is the reason why rebars "ironrods" are added to concrete to give it tensile strength to help give concrete the strength to withstand maximum stress before failing.
very true what ES just said, i see it in Uganda where builders, welders learnt from friends and family, with little principles behind what they are doing, but you also get some who are very good practically
most buildings collapse due to insufficient cement/aggregate mix or rushing to the next level before concrete has cured, you need at least minimum 30 days for concrete to cure, the longer it is left the better, it would also depend on the loading. Iam not a civil engineer but the little I learnt makes me understand the basics
In my young days, I work ah lil in construction, On major building a Government certified engineer all the steel plumbing and everything that has ta be in place before the concrete is poured,..For every column an beam ah sample of the concrete mix had ta be put aside to be sent to the government lab for pressure testing,,Well I come from the lil island of Barbados, where we try to do the right thing...but folks have ah lotta UA-cam video out there ta help them ta expanded their knowledge...
Well, if you hired professionals, it would be expensive, but that would never happen. It is also a problem in my country, people want to cut building costs, so they hire masons who have experience but no profession, and buildings end up falling!. The government now has strict regulations right from permits for building plans to reduce this kind of incidents.
I don't see any concrete on the ground such as a slab I see dirt.looking at the video again you build up walls before pouring concrete. In America I built my home foundation first which some may call a slab.In Africa maybe they build different. I will never build a house or structure without pouring a solid foundation first ,then walls go up.
I noticed how your husband is sitting at time mark 5:52. Is that a way of sitting that he just does as a matter of his own personal preference or is that a way of sitting that a number of the men do in this area. I asked because I used to sit like that all the time, so curious to know if that is something cultural.
@@DIYHOUSEANDFARM Fascinating! I was the only one in the family who would sit that way. I don't even think that my twin brother did it. I would even sit that way in a wooden chair at home all the way up to my college years. It felt so comfortable.

The building is going up quickly!! Lesson learned, you need to be present to manage your project. ✔️Lunch looks yummy! Thanks for sharing 🤎
Absolutely! 👌

I love how you cook everyone food, and they get lost in the taste of your food. I can tell the food is so good ☺️.

Where's the yellow rice and sardines
In this video madam. 🤓
I am curious as to why you erected walls before laying a foundation or slab?
You think we built a structure without a foundation? We never lay concrete without running pipes and wiring first. The structure must go up first.

Hey there. That is actually how the people sit here. I often see men women and the youth doing it.
