"She Didn't Break Any Law!" ~ Amaka Reacts To Pastor Siju's Suspension Over Birthday Celebration

- The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish.
The Nation reports that Iluyomade who is also the head of the Apapa Family of the RCCG, was suspended over the weekend.
Iluyomade was said to have been suspended for three months by the church's Governing Council while a panel has also been set up to investigate some of the allegations against him and the parish.
A top pastor in the church said the decision to suspend Iluyomade was a response to the public outcry against the extravagant birthday party his wife, Siju Iluyomade, threw shortly after the death of a prominent member of the church and former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.
Iluyomade has since been replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 of the church. Kpandei resumed at the City of David on Sunday, June 2 and was said to have been given a cold welcome.
The name of the RCCG parish is City of David, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Any time Wigwe was in town, you must have seen him in church on Sunday. He does not miss it.

The church is a family. Who throws a birthday party after losing three members of the family. What is there to celebrate? If she had lost her biological child would she had gone ahead with the party, and she is supposed to be a mother in the church. It's not about his financial contributions. It's about mourning with those who are mourning. What she did was very insensitive.

What Pastor Iluyomade and his wife did defies all decency and any rational explanation. This is insensitivity at his highest level. The Iluyomades have disgraced the Church. That party should have been cancelled outright.
Amaka saying there's equality in the Catholic Church is far from the truth. Not all members of the Catholic Church are equal, and we know this to be a fact.

Nobody is persecuting the Church pastor because he is their benefactor, people were angry because they did not mourn with the bereaved family. The Bible says rejoice with those are rejoicing/ mourn with those who are are mourning.
Not just a matter of a benefactor dying. The flamboyant ceremony by a pastor’s wife is uncalled for. As a pastor’s spouse, you are a standard and a role model for alot of people. There should be moderation and decency in your conduct and actions.

Give honor to whom honor is due. He was a public figure and the loss was huge for the nation as a whole. For that reason the church as the spiritual family who lost their family members are the chief mourners and should sober.

I don't know what Amaka is defending, there's no justification for what they did, it was her party and she had a right to decide what happens, and the committee would work with her.
I am disappointed at some of the comments from Amaka. Kudos to YK and others. Your views are not just about commentary but about objectivity optics sensitivity and decorum. As an insider, the ILUYOMADES are both egocentric insensitive and unrepentant and have messianic tendencies who think they are untouchable. What happened is a stain on the church, and for some of us, God waited patiently for them to even apologise openly and admit the error of their actions. The bible says, "Work out your faith with fear and trembling, and take heed for he who stands today may fall." The city of David belongs to RCCG and is not owned by the ILUYOMADES. It's not only about WIGWES death but about humility in service and serving others rather than self-service. A family is almost wiped out in a church, and you are celebrating a birthday anniversary in an outlandish way when you can just postpone in honour of the family. God help us.

Hmmm.... that is true ooo.... I experienced same when I lost my mum.... No one from my church was present. The church gave an excuse for not sending a delegate to attend the burial. Same place, a man with plenty money lost his mum...more than half of the church with coaster buses went for the event. May God help us... Salvation is an individual race. It is not by the amount of money you donate to the church.
Amaka, your responses on this matter did not sync. The place of leadership is a place of responsibility. The church is not playing God but helping men to be better by them serving their punishment when they go wrong.

As for me, even if it is the poorest active member of your church that died with his wife and son in such a tragic incident, the church and its leadership owe them that empathy not to hold such flamboyant celebration at that time. The issue of benefactor is not the issue. What is important is the fact that 3 souls were lost in a day. This could be anyone. The question is, if these people are the children of the lady could she have gone ahead with the party. By the way, do they need to throw any party at all. Should the party be held so flamboyantly. A Christian should be Christlike and always ask what would Jesus have done under the given situation. The answer seems obvious given the scenario given in the Bible where the parable of a shepherd who lost just one out of hundred left the Ninety nine and go after the lost one. I don’t B know any of Winges , I don’t step Rccc since 199 something but I always feel sad whenever I remember that day . I thank GOD for what He did to me that very day in which it makes me not to forget the day and the date in my life.How much more to be expecting from their /his Mr/Mrs Pastor that the family is more than a million in their lives/ church. The said family members are their members, friends, benefactors e.t. c. Abba they definitely deserved honourable memories.

That is not the point here. Yes some people by their service and commitment to the church deserves special honour. But this particular case goes beyond that. A member of the church, his wife and his son died tragically! Even if he is the poorest member of the church, as long as he is known to be an active member of the church, he deserves that dimension of sympathy to get that party cancelled at that time. As Yeni said, I am sure that by now their conscience is condemning their action. My problem is less of the error they made, it is their lack of humility to accept their fault. If I were them, I would have made a public apology to the congregation and the RCCG as a whole (bcos it brought even the church to disrepute as an uncaring church). I probably would have given myself self suspension even before the church did it. The man has no interest of the church at heart.
It’s seems people don’t understand what happened, Herbert Wigwe was just not a benefactor, Wigwe gave his sweat and blood to building that church, he was the chairman of building committee, he pulled his weight, solicited for funds from his influential friends, he was incharge of building that church, pulled financial weight, labour, coordination- he put this church on his head. When the church got stranded his bank gave the church loan, when church could no longer pay loan he gave the church 1 billion Naira to bail them out, he was solely paying the choir members salary from his pocket HABAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

It is not an issue to have benefactors in church so far they are indeed God's children and not thieves. Barnabas was called a son of consolation by the Apostles, because he used his wealth to support the church. We must understand that the church is not just an organisation or building, it is a people of God. Recalled how Pastor Illuyomade praised Wigwe in the break of his death. Ps Illuyomade confessed from pulpit that Wigwe personally placed the choir on salary, gave scholarship to indigents but brilliant students and used his personal fund in hundreds of million naira to support different cause and people in the Church. Most people did not know that Lazarus that Jesus raised from the dead was a wealthy man who supported the ministry of Jesus. He was even called Jesus' friend. Lydia the purple dress seller was a benefactor to the church comprising many widows. It was on that strength, the widows had to send message to Peter, so he could come and raise her from the dead. The Centurion's plea to Jesus was supported by people as they said, he built them a synagogue. Based on that Jesus healed his daughter. So, there is nothing wrong for churches to have benefactors who are truly God's children.
It is also important to note that the Albert Wigwe's father is an older pastor of RCCG. It is expected that emotional intelligence should guide the Iluyomade's

Last week,a colleague of mine was retiring, before the day of retirement program, another colleague in the same school died. What did this lady do?
She cancelled everything, no party, no pulling out parade, even though foods, drinks have been bought, in respect of our dealy departed noble colleague.
I have experienced this in many churches. If you have no money, you don’t meet with the pastor right away. If you have big money, you get to meet ASAP! It’s not all churches though.

I love the lady in the brown. Regarding the issue of discipline in the church, if you are employed in a workplace you sign up to their code of conduct and are disciplined according to what’s written in the code of conduct if you err. The same applies across most religions in the world today.
If one doesn’t like the code of conduct in a workplace or place of worship, then every human has a choice to work or fellowship somewhere else.
Also, the issue isn’t about it being an ‘important person’ who died rather, THREE MEMBERS of a family in a church died in a plane crash - the party should have, as a bare minimum, been held as a thanksgiving party rather than what was broadcast publicly!
Finally, since the event video was shared publicly, I would hope the Pastors would apologise to the family privately and record a public message to simply say ‘we erred, we’ve apologised to the Wigwe family’ and are sorry for the distress this has caused’ and then move on.

Have you guys considered that the Pastor could be part of the decision to suspend himself? The suspension couldn’t have come to him as a rude shock knowing his level of influence in the church!
The probability that he is part of the decision and accepted the suspension is high..just to quiet people. Again, Who determine or give final approval for a member to be part of the church governing board? What is the bylaw of the church board Memeber’s as regard to discipline pastor(s)? “ am I making sense to you…”
Why was he not transferred to another parish as a serious consequence? And what exactly is the gravity of the suspension? Will he lose salary or pastoral benefits? The suspension should be defined!

I can personally testify to status factors in churches. My uncle once came from usa,, the usher moved us from front seat to back seat, she said the front teeth is for "People". The GO finally acknowledged him and called him to sit in front.

I can tell you that Wigwe was not the major "benefactor" of the church. He was a very influential person in the church...but there are other very very weights, even the Pastor ID himself...but Wigwe used his INFLUENCE as a bank CEO to reach the building goals of the church. I wonder…the church founded the healthcare system in the US although since private industry don enter that arena it’s become a nightmare! Just trying to say that’s what church should be about.
