Yep the mastic-tape chainstay protector took a bit of a beating! The production frames have the new 'Silencer' chainstay protector in TPE with an alloy core. The rear end stifness is at least as good as the previous gen Edit when you take into consideration the redesigned one-piece rocker and the new chainstay pivot design with a double-row bearing. It's something we're really pleased with.
It's really just a choice. The Reserve carbon rims on this bike are slightly lighter than their alloy equivalents, and a little stiffer. That will be give a desirable ride characteristic for some people but perhaps not everyone. They're certainly not 'better' just because they're carbon.

We've chosen not to go too long - or not by today's standards anyway. 433mm on the S1 and S2 frames, 438mm on the S3 and S4.
