I'm not a bullet snob so any .223 or 5.56 that I can shoot through my AR is good. If you get into a SHTF situation first it's going to be close within 40 yards and if zombies attack plenty of any kind of ammo is good.

I wanna know where you got your info on the IMI 77 not being good in a 10”. The black hills 77 otm is what made socom justify a ton of 10.5 mark 18 usage in CQC missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. They looked forever for the best ammo they could find out of a 10.5 and it was the mark 12 ammo that preformed best. It’s devastating stuff. Why run a 62 over it?

Hate to have to say this but, When it's SHTF, any ammo will be good. The standard bulk 55 grain FMJ will be fine. It would be nice to have some high grade ammo, but for SHTF, "Combat" and your relegated to an AR15, bulk 55. grain fmj will work just fine.

My 223/556 choice is 55gr OTM. It runs well in everything. Most of my barrels are shorter than 16".
I love the IMI 77gr from a 20ish inch tube. Wicked as fukk.
7.5 to 12" I prefer 45gr to 55gr ballistic tip/ OTM stuff. Faster and the tip helps it perform better.

As far as SHTF goes I've stacked about 3k rounds of Federal XM193. If it's truly come to a shtf situation I'd be vibe checkin' with either my 18" LWRC IC DI or 16" LWRC IC A5. If I'm running either my 12" BCM or 10.5" criterion build they stay suppressed and loaded with 75g Speer Gold Dot. Both the 62g & 75g Bonded SP from Speer give the absolute best terminal ballistics compared to any other 556 cartridge within 100 yards for the short Boi ARs.

Of course, it could have just been some regular 55gr fmj shit. That shit just destroys flesh from velocity alone and has a huge tendency to yaw its way around. In my experience, green tip shines with max velocity and a nice long match grade barrel.
Load into an 18 or 20 inch and it excels against getting through hard barriers (car doors, glass, drywall, etc) and still has enough ass behind it to make someone's radius and ulna explode. You can even get okay velocity out of a 16 inch 1:7 twist barrel.
It's also not a famously accurate round, so the extra length of the barrel helps to mitigate some of the spread caused by the multiple centers of gravity being present in the layered metal cores.
If you live in the country and need that man who just rolled into your yard in his truck dead, grab your longest AR and green tip'll work fine.

It has similar felt recoil to .44 mag, with a massive meplat and mass that gives it terminal performance right there with .454 on thick-skinned targets. Of course its 2x the price to shoot, even if you handload. Fun round though. Love .454 out of a levergun, but its just too much pressure for me out of a revolver. Idk why people claim green tips are what the military uses, it’s not. The ammo that is not available to civilians is what we use and we use crappy mags and they cycle fine. Any type of mags that isn’t military is better so it wouldn’t matter.

Agreed use the magpul m3 magazine. Honestly even if you shoot thousands of rounds how much is a new barrel? It’s like back in the day when people use to say steel case rounds eat up extractors. Umm how much is an extractor $8? VS what you save on training with steel cases?

I want a fragmenting anti personnel round primarily so M193 but if I could get Mk 318 Mod 0 I would rather have both barrier defeating and frag anti personnel round. M855 is a penetrator tipped round and okay for barriers but sucks for anti personnel. M855A1 is a barrel burner and not quite as good as Mk 318 Mod 0.

The 77 grain had to be approved by JAG, and terrorists are not considered enemy combants. So rules of war dont apply.
