How do you stop dangerous diseases escaping from a secure facility?

The Pirbright Institute has category 3 animal housing for testing new vaccines against animal diseases. It is essential these virus do not get out. We see how disease containment is managed.

It would depend on the virus transmission route, and whether the animals had been inoculated yet. I filmed this, you can be sure if I needed to be wearing protective gear I would have! All the best, Richard, UAR

The protective clothing used depends on the situation. In this case it wasn't necessary.

@@understandinganimalresearch if the animals hadnt been inoculated yet, no protective clothing is needed at all, no more than a common farm at least, and i dont think farms do more than a foot desinfectation and maybe a little more

If humans could catch the disease being given to the animals, they would be dressed very differently. I filmed this before the animals were infected.
