I have met this Man many times and you will Never and I mean Never find a better person with a Great Heart, Thank You Frank Howard for many Great Memories!!!
I saw Frank Howard when he played at Tiger Stadium. He stood out because he was heads and shoulders bigger than the next biggest player. He was one of those players that could carry a team for a month.Big powerful Frank Howard was one of the most respected baseball players ever by his peers and fans alike.
We in the Washington DC Baseball family are sad today, The Capital Punisher (Frank Howard) has passed away today 10/30/23, Thank You for the memories, Sir.
He's there as a Washington player. The irony was his team, the Washington Senators are now the Texas Rangers, while the current Nationals team was from Montreal. Loved the Capital Punisher.
1970 little league we all got a pac of Topps bb cards ,,, Frank Howard was the first my card .. I was ten.. Killabrew , Howard and Jackson hit 49, 48 and 47 HR
GOT TO HANG WITH FRANK AT SIGNING SHOW..TOLD HIM I WAS AT HIS LAST GAME IN OLD YANKEE STADIUM...WHEN HE THREW HIS BAT AND KICKED WATER COOLER...HE LAUGHED AND SAID YOU LITTLE BASTED YOU WERE THERE WERENT YA...AND STARTED TO CRACK UP
The clip of Frank Howard's home run at the Senator's last game in DC was the last or one of the last plays in the game. Sometime after he hit the homerun the fans came onto the field and refused to leave. I don't remember it being an angry mob, only a lot of people showing their distain for Senator's owner Robert Short and their love for Frank Howard. He was truly a fine person. The umpires finally called the game and it was a forfeit.
How I wish I could meet this man A vastly underappreciated slugger whose mammoth shots had to be seen to be believed. And as great a power hitter as the “Capital Punisher” or “Washington Monument” was, he is said to be an even finer man. A gentleman in every sense of the word and a wonderful storyteller as well. Giants still walk amongst us.
Last game at RFK I was 12. Remember I hated that fans stormed the field with two outs in the ninth inning ending the game in New York"s favor. I'm 65 now and have never watched a game since.
One of the largest men ever to play the game! I remember he was drafted by the Dodgers, but they traded him....I thought that one of the biggest mistakes made around that time!!!
Don't know if it's a true story but once I read about Leo Durocher insulting Frank Howard face to face in the dugout, calling him 'big donkey'. Frank grabbed him by the jersey, lifted him up, banged his head against the dugout roof and dropped him almost unconscious on the floor. Frank simply said "Don't ever call me big donkey again" and walked away. 😂
Screw the ring of honor. They should have retired his #. He single-handedly kept Washington Baseball relevant in the 60's and up until the team left in 1971.
I was a big fan of Frank Howard, as a kid. I saw him hit a home run at RFK against the Royals. But, only in America, can someone be placed in the Ring of Honor, for a team he never played for. The Nationals are the Montreal Expos. The Senators Frank played for, are the Texas Rangers. Thanks for the memories Frank.
I guess it's the ring of honor for the city not the team...although you are spot on.ps...did you notice that he kept holding the bat in a left handed frame of reference ?
They did honor a couple of former Expos. And a few Negro Leagurs who played for the Homestead Grays which played most of their home games during the war in Griffith Stadium.

Growing up in Long Beach Frank was my hero. I wish he could have stayed with the Dodgers

1:10 - LOOK at that!! He makes both Harmon Killebrew and Boog Powell appear small!

I am pretty sure Howard still holds the record for most home runs in a 10 day stretch

The Capital Punisher!
He also was never crefited for hitting a homer out of the old Yankee Stadium!! Roy White was the outfielder.
Ended his career with Tigers in 1973
Hondo remember him well
Hondo I saw him hit a home run
