  • 600 horsepower of pure Pontiac muscle. This is the 1971 455HO that I built to put in my Goat. I am pairing this motor with a Richmond 5 speed, and a Moser 12 bolt read end. I have waited 30 years (since I was 13) to drive this monster, and the time is almost here. Keep looking for more updates, and videos of the actual car build.

    In my opinion the light blue silver metallic engine color is by far the nicest color of any engine ever to come out of the factory it's a shame Pontiac, only used it for 4 years from 67 to 1970 !😞

    600hp using 1971 HO #197 Heads Even Ported by someone like SD Performance is a Tough goal! I built a 501 4.211" bore 4.50" stroke 1971 455 HO motor 5-6 years back HO block, forged 4.5 crank, eagle 6.8 rods, Ross 9.5:1 pistonsSD Performance Road Paver hydraulic Roller cam245in 252ex .660in .660ex 112* LSAFully CNC ported #197 Heads hand finished, very nice heads!They flow 280-285cfm intake and 228cfm exhaustPorted HO Aluminum intake manifoldCustom 900cfm Q-Jet and Hooker SC 2.00" primary HeadersAfter getting it broken in and everything tuned i managed to get 527hp at 5400rpm and 605torque at 4300rpm With a Ported T2 or Victor, and 10.25:1 compression it would make about 560-570hp and 620-630tq Its very difficult to feed a 455 enough air to spin it high enough to make 600hp ! Motor sounds great though! Good luck!

      hi derek stewart thanks for the info on your build...i am looking for someone to port some pontiac factory iron heads to flow 270-280 cfm but it's a tough sell to the porters i have approached....most say to go with some aftermarket aluminum jobs....not my style...do you know of someone who could help me? thanks, john
      p.s. your build sounds stout..

      John Becay contact Larry Hansen, he's done 280 cfm. He doesn't really recommend it but he's done it before. He's in jersey and is a great engine builder. In Middlesex NJ

  • @kennethrobinson11231

    600 HP is hard to believe out of an engine that is a low compression engine with a cam that big. Sound a little slow in time on the stand. Do you have a vac. advance on the dist.

    • @72troy455
      @72troy455 5 років тому +2

      How do you know what compression ratio it has? Real easy to get 12-1 or more with a 455.

      I seen a 73 SD455 Superstock engine dyno over 700+HP at 8100rpm. 950+lift solid roller, less than 10-1 compression. Original Q-jet on a Victor intake, cylinder heads are a masterpiece of porting and epoxy. It runs low 9s in the 1/4 in a 3rd gen firebird.

    • @72troy455
      @72troy455 5 років тому +3

      Seen a 455 with ported #16 cast iron heads, a warrior intake with a Q-jet, and a big solid roller make 630hp 30+yrs ago.

      @@72troy455 Yeah, you blew your credibility with the "950+ lift cam. A Pontiac block cannot physically fit a cam that large, sorry Charlie.

    Is it a 497 with Warp 6 heads on it? I see stock heads on it. Maybe 6X heads. If you port them up and mill the chamber volume down you should see about 425 horse. 600 is bullshit.

    • @1967davethewave
      @1967davethewave 4 роки тому +2

      Those aren't 6X heads. If you can't tell D port 6X heads from round port heads you aren't a Pontiac guy. 600hp may not be the real number but with properly ported round port heads it is possible.

  • @Gilbert440
