My aunt once said (about me to a family member, not to me directly) that, “She (meaning me) just needs to get off her ass and get a job!”. I was appalled hearing this coming from my own aunt. She was so wrong. Not only do I have fibromyalgia, but I was also very depressed at the time and couldn’t even get out of bed! I’ll never forget her saying that. It hurt my feelings very much. *sorry for the swear word. Does anyone else get that kind of comment? It is very harsh. I’m sorry if any of you have heard something like that.

The myth that makes me scream is the one the one when someone thinks you're just lazy or faking because you're lazy. That just makes me ahhhhh! They can even see that you're doing things and no matter what you're achieving or doing they still think you're lazy. It's exhausting dealing with people when they're so rude. I've always loved to exercise and still do but some things would make it worse, so I don't do those-by orders and my doc's, but there are some people who insist that's all I need to do like they know better than me or my doc. Exhausting. I've had all the things said to me that you mentioned and sometimes I wonder what's wrong with these people and think I'm the one who's the wrong one and that I caused myself to have fibromyalgia. Great vid Melissa, anyone can see you're far from lazy as anyone can get. You're able to do all you do whilst having fibromyalgia and other conditions as well.
    Like that sweater you're wearing!

Thank you! Yes, lazy is a hard one to stomach. We push ourselves so hard it's the last thing we are! 💕

I can understand a lot of this. I had fibro and endometriosis most my life (40 now). I even had “double fibro” when I had gotten lyme’s disease. After Covid, it felt like another level of the same thing but different. It was really nutty that I had been diagnosed several times, but had doctors giving me this “it’s gas”. 😅

I couldn't agree more with all this! It's a condition/malfunction of the nervous system and we did not cause it. First time I went to the GP with all my symptoms she wanted to diagnose me with depression. It made me so angry and I explained that it wasn't depression, but that it was all the symptoms I was experiencing that made me feel low.

The poor diet gets me because I have always been on a strict diet and I have it.

I hate ‘you’re just getting old’…😫. You mentioned something about vegan diets or keto. Is there any evidence that any of these help ?

There is one or two tiny studies on vegan helping. And a lot of studies on keto helping various related conditions but I've not seen a thing for fibro and keto. However Dr Sarah myhill swears by a paleo-keto diet for all patients and shares about it on her blog and books. For anyone going from the SAD diet any whole food diet will be an improvement. Personally I do best with more meat and fat- its been an ongoing experiment for over a year (after being almost plant based).
