I was born and bread in the UK. Living upon a council estate and wasn't the best at times. His message is reality in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 at 4:45. Anyone who is offended was brought up with money! 🇬🇧
devlin was like 16 when he wrote this but a lot of early grime they played around with the flow hes not off beat but hes not one the expected beat normally a rapper would land on the snare in this where he skips the snare on this you should check out ghetts devlin was in a group started by ghetts with him and wretch 32 called the movement. for more devlin you have to do holy grime with him and wiley
Devlin wrote and released this song at the age of 16. I'll always have mad respect for him, he turned his life around and used it as the catalyst to create this album. Everything spat in this song comes from something real.
This is greatness loved it when it came out and still do he is one of the best and always will be listen to more of his stuff as a English guy from a poor background I really felt devlin
Yes! Such a good tune. First time I saw this years ago I was in tears. Strong lyrics. Please check out The Four Owls - Think Twice (produced by DJ Premier).
When u say his cadence is unorthodox. I agree whole heartedly . The way a rapper/mc approaches a beat is like the PH scale . Most hover around a 5 or 6 and then some are at the complete opposite ends of the spectrum 😂 Devlin straight attacks instrumentals
I’m old school rap and for me this is one of the most real true to life traks iv ever heard I love his style and his portrayal of life in London it is so heart felt and sad
Great reaction. I live literally down the road from where this was filmed. They have demolished the blocks now but not much else has changed. His flow is unorthodox due to the fact he started as Grime MC so doesn't sit in the normal hiphop pockets.the more you listen to the UK you will start to appreciate it. It's hard to begin with but they are amazing if your persistent. please check out Kamakaze Fire in the booth. Many thanks. Peace
Waooo you know Im new on your channel, I already saw 3 of your programs. Know I got it, You are good (escudriñando) the videos. I love the sound and the bass on this video. Thanks
I want to make a point about the "cheaper to pay Europeans in numbers" line, just before it he said "got taken off site because its cheaper.." so it wasnt that people refuse to work at that rate of pay its the fact companies find people who will do it for cheaper rates of pay. So if you look at it that way, he was already working on a construction site but he got let go because they found people to do it cheaper, so its like working your job for 10 years at the same rate of pay and suddenly companies want to reduce the rate. So hows he suppose to maintain his bills if he is now on less money. That's the point hes making.
this is still too this day one of the realest uk tunes, back in the day devlin was legendary up there with wrecth 32 and thats saying something. had his own flow and his lyrics were insane. its a shame he took a break as the uk music scence changed but still too this day NO ONE would beat him in a clash or battle rap. he is the uk version of eminem
Devlin is the man that can spit bars for the truth of the people, I am the same age as devlin an have been following since 2006. Hoping devlin gets back to his grimey roots through this pandemic, spit some shit about Cameron an boris Johnson. also feature deeperman? What happened to him. Don't forget to buy devlin albums mixtapes on iTunes
Not necessarily the fact that the British don’t want to, but that contributes to 30% of it, the other 70% is Eastern European’s come over and work for a lot less an hour than our minimum wage
It’s not as black & white. A lot of Eastern Europeans come to work for cheap wages and send that money back to their native country where the exchange rate, from pounds to their currency is often significantly higher.
Dev is a uk legend check out his latest album blue skies some good tracks on there also bro check out Bugzy Malone he’s another very good uk artist his fire in the booth pt2 is amazing 👊
New to your channel I just asked you to react to this on your lowkey Ahmed video. The point he was making about being cheaper to pay foreigners is British people were losing jobs so they corporations could protect their profits by hiring cheap foreign labour to replace them, not sure if you misunderstood but he wasn't saying those British people's weren't willing to do the work.
Your point on immigration is fair, tge trouble here also lies with how strong the pound is. If you've got a polish lad that has the option to come to England, earn enough to live a good live here while also sending money to his fam that's enough to support all of them and he can do it for less than an English bloke, who've they gonna pick? Tricky one
I particularly enjoy Cold Blooded and 50 Grand, along with his verse on Wiley's Bring Them All. If you like the production on 50 Grand, I'd also suggest something by Sir Syro production like Stormzy's song Scary or Topper Top Top by Teddy Bruckshot. Mr B Loyd, do you have any interest in reacting to instrumental music? or does it not provide e enough for you to discuss or bounce off? I'd have thought you might like lots of drum'n'bass, dubstep and IDM songs, if you don't know them already.
Giggs, Wiley, Slow Thai and Skepta all have classic grime and UK hip hop songs, even if they might be a bit more famous and obvious than some of the people have been featured so far. I wonder if Mr B Loyd already knows them.
Yooo Can you please do a reaction to his “fire in the booth”? I seen how much you loved wretch 32 & Avelino’s FITB and I think this Devlin one is up there with it!
Devs released this 10 years ago and is still relevant to today’s news, why? Cause it’s the truth, and it’s relevant to all situation all the time,we can’t hear music like this on the radios but WAP is on repeat, the music industry is a load of BS & a lot say, there’s no real music anymore!! People are just looking in the wrong places
The problem with "countrymen" working on the farms in their farms in first world countries is the work is seasonal and the farms are not near population centers. So for unemployed people it would mean moving away from their support network in their communities for a temporary job.
I agree with your sentiment on most things but the reason people get undercut by foreign workers in the labour trade is because they can come to the uk and earn uk wages but send there money home where rent, childcare and groceries are so much cheaper. Do this for a few years at a sacrifice of not seeing there family but retire early. The locals cant compete on price cus they have to pay local prices for groceries, rent, mortgages, childcare for their family. Is a bit lazy to say its arrogance IMO
the main issue is we didn't have national immigration control it's the equivalent of someone in florida charging half the money as someone in california for the same job, except now they move to california and rent a mattress and charge the same price. It was a recognised circuit, come here and live and work like a slave for two years then go back to your home nation and buy a massive house. Respect the hustle but i know skilled trades people that left the industry and got jobs in supermarkets because it was better for them financially than staying working where they were. It never should have been allowed to happen that way.
It’s not about thinking you are better than people from other countries, but expecting a fair and living wage for your work. Which you cannot get when people willing to work for less than the living wage are imported in at records never seen before. If you aren’t from Europe and especially the UK, please don’t chime in on a subject that already has so many uneducated commentators. Especially when that is your take.
Devlin never got the recognition or clout he deserved and its arguably because he regularly tried bringing light to issues in todays society, not something the mainstream media like to broadcast. Can't listen to many of his songs without getting shivers, too real
He didn't give a fair assessment of Devlin there for my opinion this is when Devlin was a kid he's literally one of the best lyricists in the UK he's up there with Akala/Mic righteous/ Lowkey
I'm not saying it's correct but I've heard people refer to this cadence as a capella which doesn't make sense. It's simply off kilter flow and personally I hate it. Many rappers do it on purpose and this guy is one of them but most rappers just can't get their flow right on grime beats 😂
His Diss track is the best I've ever heard, buried Wiley at the age of 17
Devlin - extra extra. Is the name of the Wiley diss.
@@dimillar28 Then jumped on a track with him Bring Them All / Holy Grime
Nah nightbus dubplate where Wiley goes at the movement is the best diss track in my opinion
Wiley even admitted when he heard that diss track he couldn’t respond.
@@deadlymantis4210 things change

this song doesnt scratch the surface of devlin. check his fire in the booths.
This is better than his fitb's, incredible relevant message still in 2024... he was like 16 when he wrote that... that's a genius.
Devlin feat. Wretch 32 - Off with their heads🔥🔥🔥
Blast from the past! What a tune
devlin was like 16 when he wrote this but a lot of early grime they played around with the flow hes not off beat but hes not one the expected beat normally a rapper would land on the snare in this where he skips the snare on this you should check out ghetts devlin was in a group started by ghetts with him and wretch 32 called the movement. for more devlin you have to do holy grime with him and wiley

Exactly this. A lot of Americans said Drake was off beat in his Only You Freestyle, but anyone who knows grime could hear what he was doing
Check out Skinnyman- council estate of mind. It's the same vibe as this song from another old school legend. Manners and respect from England my bruva
